Yes absolutely. Even as possibly part of a trade for Giannis so MIL doesn't lose him for nothing.
Powell is trash, you guys are delusional! Hahahahahahahahahahahaha

Here is factual evidence that I have posted before in another thread.

1. A lot of people think he is good because his one skill on the court is visually appealing. We have seen it before that Rick can take any player who can jump high and pair him with a decent PG to get value in the PnR. The reality is that this is a cheese strategy that can help us in the regular season, but will never get us to the title.
2. Maxi is infinitely better.
3. I believe in 5 out offense. KP and Maxi should take all the 5 minutes.
4. Dwight jumps as high as he can to catch bounce passes.
5. Soft player.
6. Goofy.
7. Front office subconsciously love him because it's all they got from the Rondo trade.
8. Takes up money that needs to be used on a wing player.
9. Can't defend.
10. Canadian.

Well, it’s definitely “factual” that he’s Canadian.

100% confirmed factual brochocho. I've watched you guys go on about this scrub for several pages now. I have restrained myself until now, but as Dwight's number one hater, the truth must be brought to light!
Not as harsh as @"IamDougieFresh" on Powell but with that injury man moving him ever became a lot harder. I believe he is a negative asset until proven otherwise. The TDL is way too soon to think he will have recovered his value to even neutral status. The achilles injury is the worst injury one can sustain in the NBA. For Powell's position and the fact that he wasn't a star player before means it's unlikely he can live up to his contract which has 30+ mil left on it.

Right now you have Durant coming back from an Achilles and still a max player because he is one of the all-time great players.

Rudy Gay has been effective despite his injury.

Matthews was a major disappointment and is now a minimum player. Boogie was not the same player and got re-injured quickly. Other guys like Brandon Jennings and Chalmers were shortly out of the league following their injuries.

Bottom line, it's not good especially if you are a non-star. It's possible that Powell's career is over. We will see. I am hoping for the best. But he is a negative asset right now.
I will say that Dwight seems to be a very hard worker. I feel pretty confident he can come back to 90% of where he was. Unfortunately, that would downgrade him from trash to dog poo and he has 33 mil left on his contract over 3 years.
Seems like some NBA experts think WCS shouldn't pick his option. Here is Hollinger take on this (Verdict No means he will not take his option):

It was surprising to see how little run Cauley-Stein received with the Mavs. He’s still a useful, switchable defender and an effective rim runner, especially if he’s on a transition team that can take advantage of his end-to-end speed. Even in a league that is turning away from centers, he can probably get the biannual exception in the free-agent market, and certainly he can’t do any worse than another minimum deal at his current number. Verdict: No

interesting. That’s the first time I’ve heard/read that, so far, from anyone outside of this board.

I don’t think he’s opting out. Not worried a bit.

It was TMOGE-esque. Draws you in, then BAM.

SO it begins.

They can suck it. Luka's guaranteed to be a Mav for the next 7 years at least. Lakers will be back in the lottery by then when Lebron is 42 and AD is back to not being able to lead a team to the playoffs.

We can give as good as we get.
Not a whole lot new here:

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2913...ion-player

Key points:

- Per Sports Illustrated's Jeremy Woo, the Mavs are shopping the 18th overall pick "in hopes of landing immediate rotation help."
- It's unclear if the Mavs have their eyes set on any specific player in trades, but Woo did note they are "angling to be a major player" and "will avoid taking on long-term money" in a potential deal.

As we have discussed, Mavs want to trade 18 for an upgrade but one that doesn't involve long-term money.

Interesting that the article says "rotational player" and we know they don't want to add money. To me this hints that it's unlikely to be any kind of big move involving THJ or other significant pieces (ie Seth, Maxi, etc).

I'll say it again, draft night I would expect 18 + Wright to be gone.

This is a bit challenging.  Not too many teams are trying to be bad.  But, if we are getting the better player (or a neutral player on a better contract) in exchange for giving up our pick, then our trading partner isn't trying to win.  They are trying to accumulate assets.  There aren't too many of those out there.

I could see Wright/Jackson/18 for D. Rose and Svi making some sense.  Detroit is hurting for help at PG.  Rose is a big enough name to be a little splashy here and he helps move the Wright contract.  I like adding Svi as an outside shooter off the bench.  He's actually the sneaky best part of this deal (kind of like Powell's inclusion in the Rondo deal).  Recall that getting rid of THJ is part of the strategy for 2021 cap room.  We will need a SG at some point.  Svi would be cheap to retain for a role beyond 2021.
@"DanSchwartzman" what about a trade of like valued players, but representing different levels of fit on their new teams? With the Mavs’ incoming player on a one year deal?

Or, what about a small market team worried about losing a lower profile (but still good) player next year in free agency? Wouldn’t Wright’s contractual status actually be a plus for them?

That player better be DAMN good then. The #18 pick is inconsequential to the 2021 cap and COULD be a contributor. They better not waste that #18 pick for a player that doesn't stay past 2021 or that is just average.

I’m inclined to agree with Step’s prediction, but I do hope the incoming player is someone they would at least want to re-sign in a fall back scenario.
