With Richardson... I'm honestly less interested in Hayward because defense becomes less of an issue.
If you want the playmaking, Bogdan is a much better get.

I think I prefer Gallo at this point compared to Hayward. We still need to improve offensively.
I like Buddy because you know exactly what his contract is. From the pool of players you'd need to extend, Bogdan.

Not lame.  Creates an advantage for the Bucks over the rest of the league and incompetence by the Kings.

I mean for restricted guys you own the rights to match. So having the right to negotiate the team that owns their rights makes some sense.
I don't think they move THJ, I really don't.

I think they believe that shooting is the most important thing, and now that Curry is gone, I have a hard time seeing THJ as a tool to create more (short term) change to the roster.

You can argue that Hield gives you the same thing, only better, but A) I don't think this is the year for too much roster turnover and B) I think THJ might get you more in trade at the deadline if you really want to move him.

I think the Gallo thing went away when OKC traded for 17 instead of 18, and I'm GLAD. Would love to have the player, but not at the expense of how we're all feeling right now, getting this youthful shot in the arm.

I do now fully expect the universe to offer them up something great for the MLE (they're living a charmed life as a franchise these days), and then I think they're done.

Just my prediction.

How much salary could Dallas take back for Wright, Jackson, and a S&T of Courtney Lee? (close to John Wall proportions).
Dallas should be looking to move heaven and Earth (goodbye 2025 1st) to make a package around those 3. Which player drafted tonight (or Brunson) goes in that package, I am not sure.
That's my prediction of what will happen, not exactly what I think should happen (although I am a fan of selling high on THJ).

I still think it makes more sense to be able to hear offers from around the league. *shrug*

I think Hayward is more of an offensive creator than Gallo is. That's why I think this is the trade that happens.
@"DanSchwartzman" It's not really being talked about, but aren't we technically still within the boundaries of your plan HIBW? In fact, if the off season stopped right this second, are they CLOSER to cap space?

And they've managed to completely misdirect us away from complaining about it.

If this works, you extend Richardson and maybe even THJ. Or, one or the other. If not - there's some space to sign players, absorb contracts (for draft capital), etc, etc.

Donnie is KILLING IT lately, immfhao

I love how much flexibility we have now with Richardson
There's a good argument for all 3 guys and I'm good with whichever would be the easiest/cheapest

That's probably Bogdan and with the side benefit of being the best long term piece should he work out. You also don't have to negotiate with Presti and Ainge.

THJ staying makes a ton of sense regardless of what we do in FA as a 6th man. That's the role he should be. Try him there again and if he stinks move him back to the starting lineup and trade him at the deadline. He's not a long term starter here so no reason to be married to him in that role if you can improve him.

I'd have to think that regardless of Bogdan, the Mavs are going to be dangling Brunson, Wright and Jackson as a SNT package to someone. If anything has been made clear the last few days if a team likes the deal, they aren't really balking at extra year of salary coming back at them.

No it does. And I think that's why that's not a thing. You'll have restricted guys trying to maneuver to the teams they want.
It's actually not even best for the players from a financial standpoint.

If he takes Curry's role, I think that is the best spot for him. Extend him for Curry's salary and let's keep rolling!

I think that package (minus Brunson) is likely to get dangled, but I wouldn't expect much to come back, and I'm curious, what makes you think they've turned the page on long term salary? I mean, you might be 100% correct, but Richardson is very likely to opt out next year with all the cap room flying around, so they CREATED more space tonight, rather than reducing it. It's just that the moves got us so excited nobody cares.

I'm not saying I'm sure that was the point, but I don't (yet) see proof that they've turned the page. Just saying. Now, a three year deal for Milsap at the MLE, or something like that? I think that will prove it a little, but even then I think they're still within striking distance, now that they have things other teams want. They could trade DFS to create space and still have Green, for example.

I think this is @"DanSchwartzman"'s wet dream, so far.

Disagree. I love, love, love what THJ has done here but when you ask him to do too much on his own is when the warts really show. He needs to start and be a 3rd banana and/or a 2nd banana as a pinch hitter in case of injury. If we are going after another scorer, I think we need move on.
Did we ever hear what type of money for the Bogdan deal? It'd have to somewhere around 15-20 mill based on the initial deal with salary matching rules.

We willing to go over 20 mill?

The reason that deal might not be dead is that he can't beat the deal that Bucks offer.
But honestly I could see GM's pushing the league to not allow that trade ever even in a few weeks.

I personally thought it was due to the dynamics of everyone he was playing with on the bench versus being next to Luka. In short, Luka is what is elevating him. If Luka is that big of an elevator and he is more like bench THJ... Imagine what an actual good player without Luka will do with him?

But yeah that's sort of what I'm getting at to. If he isn't going to be a 6th man... Move on from him. Because he's not the long term answer as a starter.
Part of why I feel the way I do is that I don't think they want to SUBTRACT any of their successful rotation/locker room guys from last year, especially in a year that will be so condensed and chaotic. I think last year's group having experience  playing together is the crutch that's going to get this young ass team back to the playoffs.

You move THJ and something else from that group for Hield and YES, your roster is better, but I kind of don't think the first year results would be.

I also think they're cautiously optimistic that what THJ did last season was not an outlier, but rather just how THJ fits here. I think extending him next summer, along with Richardson, might be somewhere on their list of plans, and maybe higher than we think.

But, wtf do I know. That's just how I'm seeing it tonight. I KNOW they value THJ more than this board does, but we ALL know they're not scared to trade people they value. So, it's all a guess.

He looked terrible until he got to play next to Luka.  Him being the 6th man is the last thing I want.  Freedom to chuck terrible shots.  That first year after he came over from the Knicks he shot 32% from three and looked as awful as we all expected.  Carlisle had a genius stroke moving him into the starting lineup.
By the way, someone might have mentioned this already, but big ups to @"ItsGoTime", who has been on the Josh Richardson train for like two months. I'm happiest for you, my guy.
