Because they probably prefer keeping Grant, and their payroll may not support both.

And, tbh, MPJ, Grant and Milsap all play the same position. I can WAY see Milsap being allowed to walk. I could also see them keeping him, but I doubt it would be on a multi-year deal.
Marc Stein of the New York Times reported Friday the Knicks are on the "short list of viable trade destinations" for Westbrook if they're willing to take on the $132.7 million left on his five-year, $206.8 million contract.
Washed Up Era Westbrook was destined to be a Knick.
Good to see all the Millsap love. I'd like to welcome everyone to 2013.
Nuggs are also close to the luxury tax line. If they're going to try to add to their talent base to beat the Lakers, they can't keep Grant and Millsap without moving into the tax.

2020 is the new 2013. I just watched Dwight Howard and Rajon Rando get heavy rotation minutes on a Championship Team.

Rondo shooting 42% from 3PT land in the bubble.

Woah. The NBA store page with Milsap's jersey has to be a confirmation right?

He definitely fits the mold of the Mavs rumors being interested in Ibaka, Harrell, Gallo, and hell even Myers Leonard. I think Milsap is in the upper tier of all those guys too.

He might be 34, but he's still quite effective. I think he's our MLE target for multiple years. I also think this means that either Powell or Maxi are on the block.

Just me trying to read some tea leaves. Milsap will definitely be playing the 4 next to KP. That's exactly what Maxi's role was. I highly doubt it'll take just a 1 year MLE deal to land a guy like Milsap. Which means it's going to eat into our 21' capspace. Powell is a hindrance, and is difficult to trade (unless that CHI Fansided site is to be believed). So that leaves me with Maxi being used as trade bait.

My ideal scenario is the Mavs getting Milsap. And then trading for Lavine using Powell's contract because CHI is stupid.

Absolutely. EVERY asset should be on the block if the Mavs can secure a 3rd star. Millsap then helps plug the dam in the meantime.

You are forgetting the Würzburg section of the team charter.
Cuban is on the phone now with marketing, "now release the Beal jersey."
Ya'll are really jumping the gun on Millsap lol.
Mavs get Millsap for the MLE. Trade Maxi + Seth + #18 to Bulls for LaVine.

I don't think anyone is genuinely thinking anything is locked in, but it makes a lot of sense, especially if the Mavs are trading a ton of assets to get a 3rd star.

It is a solid move, though disappointing on the "timeline" front.
