  1. Hayward was relegated to fourth on the team (among rotation players) in usage.Despite taking a step (or a few) back in terms of his role over the course of his current contract, Hayward had a quietly solid season in time for a potential free agency. He was top 40 in box plus/minus ("...a basketball box score-based metric that estimates a basketball player’s contribution to the team when that player is on the court," according to Basketball Reference) and averaged 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.8 threes per 75 possessions, with a true shooting percentage three points above the league average.Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Karl-Anthony Towns were the only players in the league who matched those averages. KAT was the only one who did it with a higher true shooting percentage.

Yeah, so from what I can glean from the situation, seems like what happened is:

He was signed ceremoniously as a big time building block and a core player with a vital role. He got hurt like 5 minutes into his first game, after having never really being injury prone prior to that. Then, all the youngsters were forced to develop while he dealt with a serious rehab. Several years (including the Kyrie era) and lots of nagging setbacks later, when he was finally healthy, it turns out the team had grown on the court without him, and the guys in the locker room didn't really get excited about letting him resume he place in the offensive approach on the court. After some tug of war about that, he and their young, core players literally don't like each other anymore. He wants out and they (the players, not the team management) want him out of their way.

Now, we hear rumors that they might bring Drummond in??? I'm getting less and less focused on Boston as a perennial threat to Dallas. I think they're going to be underachievers when we look back at this decade.

All the ping pong balls in the world don't matter if you can't get the recipe just right.
New York media will eat him alive. Get that paper though, Gordon.
Man the idea of a Bogdan SnT sounds so intrigueing right now.

Wing defense: Richardson
Secondary playmaker: Bogdan

We’d improve two gigantic needs.

The MIL-SnT package is something we could come up with, too.

And then you’d still have the MLE....

I thought Hayward was the exception, but that was when his first max expired. Ergo, "waiting until Luka signs his max" is not a thing that would prevent trading future firsts.
This Jason Terry "The Poster"?

So here's my question on Bogdanovic...I'm asking because I'm less familiar with him than many here.

I'm sold on him as a secondary playmaker. Is he the efficient, high volume shooter that THJ is? Can he get them off? Can he play without the ball? Is he better on defense than Luka? (not a shot at Luka, just really like the two-way threat trend they're on right now).

If the answer to ALL the above is yes, you go for it, and the plan of 2021 is a smashing success.

I know OPJ isn't a playmaker, but he's one of the few guys who could be obtained without an SnT. I'm concerned after someone said that SnT's screw up your full MLE. I want that full MLE for sure. Although, if we get someone like Wood, I begin to be concerned about how we pay Terry and Tiger.

I'm hoping there's a pathway to Wood and Bogi - or at least Wood and OPJ. Either would be a pretty darn near perfect offseason.
I am not too concerned with the MLE. I feel the most likely scenario is they use it to sign their second round picks to longer term deals, bring back Burke, and maybe even WCS (with something slightly above the minimum left over?). Anyone signed for MLE type money could easily be S&T for Wright (9 - 14 mil) or Jackson (5 - 10 mil).
Another thing about the Zach Lowe podcasts .. he wonder if John Collins is available. After the Hawks drafted Okongwu and traded for Capella they might not want to pay him a big extension.

Did the quick ESPN check on Collins... what am I missing here? Why wouldn't they want to keep him?

..."easily..." if the other team wants that player.

Saric is the pipedream for the MLE.

Maybe, if we offer Saric 14M per season, the Suns would prefer Maxi. Something like Kleber+Boban for Saric.

Donnie loved him in the draft. Very underrated passer/playmaker, too.

The other trade would be something like Green+ Jackson + Wright+ future 2nd for Bogdanovic+Ramsey

Still got the MLE to get some veteran PF/C for a year. Maybe you can get Favors on a one year $10M deal and Robin Lopez for the minimum.

New roster:

Doncic/Brunson/Terry
Bogdanovic/THJ/Ramsey
Richardson/DFS/MKG
Saric/Favors/Bey
Porzingis/Powell/Lopez

If everything goes well, especially health at the right time, you could talk me into a WCF appearance.

That should satisfy almost all Mavs factions: It´s a much better team, it´s much younger and it keeps the cap flexibility intact to swiftly create the space for Giannis.

Hahaha I was thinking in terms of financial rules, but yes overall should probably not be called “easily”...if it was easy I would assume at least one of them would’ve been traded by now

Nobody knows, but many smart people speculate about him being available. That´s why I am not down on the FA class next year. All these RFAs, with rumours attached, that their teams don´t love them.

If we could get Collins. Great target. Also on a rookie deal next summer, so almost no cap implications.

I bet Kleber is in a lot of Mavs trade discussions right now, whether it´s Bogdanovic, Collins, Hayward, Saric or somebody else. Kleber fills a hole on almost every team.
Add Kaminsky to the list of potential cheap frontcourt floorspacers. I’d love him for the minimum, even more than Ilyasova.

Bad defensive five, but has to play the 5 on offense.  Kinda like Julius Randle tweener t ype.   One of those guys who is probably a shade below max caliber, but is going to want/expect the max.   Hawks may want him on a more team friendly deal.  The Hawks are also reportedly hot after Gallo, so that's another front court guy that could get thrown into the mix.

 Is he, does he?

His career RTG/per 100 possession is plus 9, with a top defensive mark in his rookie season. That´s borderline outstanding for a 22 year old on a consistent losing team.

I wonder what could have caused his defensive regression. Any particular events happen in Atlanta in the last two years? Wink

I think it´s insane that he´s even on the market, same with WCJ. They can´t win on their own. They are obviously not franchise players, but they are starters on a winning team imho. Since we have the franchise guy(s) already, they´d make great targets.
Did I see a correct information, that FA begins at midnight tonight? In seven hours? I think it is safe to expect 75 % of free agents will be signed in first five minutes.
