On the other hand, they've been doing things their way for years and maybe CP3's grandpa message doesn't get through. The other thing is their depth is pretty poor as well on top of CP3 AND Booker's injury history. When 1 or both of them go down, that will trigger the free fall down the standings.

So, the injury points are valid, and it's definitely not a move with much of a look to the future, that's for sure.

But, I honestly think you're underrating both Paul's impact on the court and the way he's revered by the younger generation of players. I think he's one of the most underrated players of all time, personally.

Maybe. We're not talking about the Mavs though, we're talking about CP3 and the Suns.

Now, here's a man who knows how to PREPARE HIMSELF. Well done, sir.

I think there's a chance he has a Butler-to-the-young-Timberwolves effect on that Suns team.

PREPARE YOURSELVES

At least we'll get a landslide of 1st rounders when Luka asks to be tradeed.

I mean, what he did in OKC (a truly garbage team) last year was fairly undeniable, nay?

You give him the ball, Booker and Ayton? I think Suns fans have a right to be pretty excited, honestly.

Traded in conference (or even division) to either OKC or Mem who have such a landslide of picks!

A) THAT'S THE SPIRT MY GUY!!! YES!!! PREPARE YOURSELF!

B) For all we know right now, Luka is BEGGING to play with either Rubio or Dragic. We just don't know.

Was that the perfect storm for the highly aging superstar though? That team was ready to hear what he had to say cause they just spent years with the volatile RW. Does he get in the young guy's faces too much where the message starts getting rolled eyes much like Butler in Min? I think there's a decent chance of that too.

I don't think it's as slam dunk as is being talked about is what I'm saying. It very well could turn out like OKC with an arguably better supporting cast, but I don't think it's a forgone conclusion.

Well, I'll agree there. Nothing in pro sports is a forgone conclusion. I suppose that's a big part of why we like this stuff.

I think, personally, the Suns pulling this off would inject some life into their franchise in a very positive way, even if it doesn't reach complete fruition on court. They'd be very relevant for the next two years, at least.
The other thing is CP3 had just been traded away from 2 teams that he wore out his welcome. Maybe that's why he was on his best behavior there. Now the Suns are wanting him and paying a price for him, does he turn back to the guy who wore out his welcome on the 2 previous teams?

I think the results of the bubble run injected life into that franchise already. Sure CP3 could be an even bigger injection, possibly until the sheen wears off and he's sitting on the bench in street clothes barking out orders to his teammates.

I don't think that phenomenon (which I agree is the knock on him) happens in year 1. I think he's like a coach on the floor who holds everyone to maximum accountability, and that it wears on folks over the course of a few years.

Like OKC, the Suns NEED it.

I see CP3's time in OKC as realistic expectations.  He expected to compete for championships in his previous two shops, not so much once he got traded away.
@"ItsGoTime" we get it. You wouldn't want Paul if you ran the Suns. No crime there.

What were Butler's realistic expectations when he went to Min?

That was 100% about Butler's money, as was the situation in Philly. It's been hashed over by lots of talking heads. It was all obviously staged to try to get to a place that would pay him.

Chris Paul is so many miles above that it's ridiculous. He's NBA royalty. No knock on Butler, I think he's a hell of a player.

Honestly, not even really saying that, I'm mostly arguing the cost to acquire him. I think it should reflect some of all this risk.

Interesting. Well, the cost is the cost. We should find out what that is soon enough!

ARE YOU PREPARED, SIR?
