Interesting. I think the job was much more difficult last year, when you realize there's only a certain type of guy they want. Those guys didn't see Dallas the same way they do this year. Next year, the esteem they have for the Mavs should be even higher.
I'm cautiously optimistic. There seem to be tons of decent options, but, as I keep saying, the only way to fail is to make a bad move, so no news is good news, on a certain level.

Meh. We don't have any real trade assets, unless we're willing to cut bait on KP, which would almost certainly involve a sideways move. I think pretty much any team in the league can outbid us on any given player we want. We have to hope that they all run out of assets before the big trade targets are gone. As for free agency, we're not going to get much with the MLE if we don't want to go multiyear and risk losing out on a GA shot. I think the only way we "make a deal and get better" in a way affected by Luka attraction is if a given player wants to come here and only here, and we force their sending team to accept a crap sandwich of our non-assets.
Either that, or, of course, we hit a grand slam by having picked well at 18.

Because that's always been the most likely scenario. The Mavs dont have as much ammunition as a lot of other teams and seem to be inquiring on everyone hoping someone accepts their pu pu platter. It worked with the KP deal so it's nice to see them asking around.
Still feels like a year where we just give out a one year MLE and roll with the same team from last year.
I think we would have added more long-term salary at the deadline if there was a different plan in the works
Mavs fans (including me) waiting for real news on trades and free agency.
