That´s the story of the last 10 years.

One more time: It's not all about Giannis. There will be a star available at the deadline that we can't forsee at this time. Always is. Maybe it's someone who fits here, maybe not, but if it IS, the Mavs have expiring deals of so many sizes around which a trade can be built.

They obviously don't renounce rights or cap holds until they're actually SIGNING a free agent, so your worst nightmare isn't possible. If re-signing some or all of these guys makes sense, they'll do it.

There are other possibilities, too, but my point is that this is not refusing to build a team in order to make a retarded pitch to Dwight Howard. Not remotely close. THIS is a GOOD team with more fun doors opening than closing. They are about to have the NBA by the BALLS.

My advice is to ENJOY THIS.

Harrell is a good deal but he probably wasn't a good fit here for obvious reasons. Not a fan of the Favors contract length but that's not terrible compared to a lot of other money that was thrown around today. RJJ? You mean DJJ? He got more than I was expecting but he's intriguing.

We still have moves to make but we've gotten a lot tougher and defensive minded and ditched Delon. I'm not saying we should do backflips but we are headed in the right direction. Chin up.

Just saw.

I think Wright's trade value was as low as some thought. IN ANY CASE, the Mavs get off of Wright's money and add the defensive enforcer crazy guy we wanted.

Johnson is 100% the guy you dont wanna mess with. Him and JRich were teammates in Miami too. Now that the Mavs freed a roster spot, I wonder if they aren't done making trades.

This is what worries me. That year (2022) we will still have KP on his last year of his contract. So in 2023, when his off the books, is when we look to either resign KP or be looking for another star to pair Max contract Luka.

Then again a lot can happen between these 3 years. Does our draft players become starters? Does free agency in 2021 net us a 3rd star? Does KP get career ending injury (knock on wood)? But keeping Luka is the biggest priority, and building the best roster is going to get it done.

KP has a player option in 2023, so that could give an extra year. And it might be a good sign if he opts out. It means he's played well enough to deserve a long term contract. But if he struggles to stay healthy over the next few seasons, maybe Dallas has to re-evaluate his future.
Luka / Brunson / JJB
JRich / Burke / Terry
THJ / DFS / Green
BLOODSPORT / Maxi
KP / Powell / Boban

Feels like the roster is pretty set to me, save maybe a cheap big to sign while KP is recuperating.
THJ+Brunson for Bogdon to round out the night, and then sign Baynes to whatever's left of the MLE.

I'd officially nominate a statue for Donnie.

Is an expiring deal really that valuable if you dont have a bunch of picks to attach to it?  I'm just thinking about the KP trade.  DSJ and 2 first round picks were attached to the expiring contracts.

Still need to know the pick we gave up if any.

I'm struggling to think of what trades are let unless you involve THJ for Bogi S&T or Buddy Love. Maybe we are comfortable trading DFS now. Maxi seems like a long shot given the state of our rotation, but maybe another big is in our sights.

Just like nobody expected James Harden demanding trade.

Mavs have expiring contracts but they do not have anything else. Not a lot of picks or value contracts. What is more valuable a good player on a reasonable contract or an expiring? There is no way to gain assets without signing players. An expiring cannot gain value. No matter the performance. It´s the same lazy approach every year and I am tired of it.
It´s absolutely possible to lose them. Non of the mentioned guys will be a RFA. Just depends on Giannis (stop kidding yourself this is all about him) and the amount of time he needs to make his decision.

No, but maybe it won't take that many picks. Situations differ, and the mavs just drafted three more guys on rookie deals to package with the bigger contracts, in addition to all the value deals we've all been hoping they hoard like the last crack rock for two months (because we need them to play here). They are a little pick starved, but far from asset poor, imo.

I'm telling you guys, this is GOOD. Just wait and the Luka era will provide.

I mean, there's probably still time to max out Gordon Hayward and trade all the rookies in a package for him if you all really, really want to, but I just don't know why having a great off season is somehow marred by the fact that it's ALSO a smart off season.

Do we still have MKG sign for this year? The link says he signed for 20-21 but nothing mention about his base salary?

Mavs have improved big time. You gotta chill bruv.

...and then we drink the tears of the Brunson stans.
That's true. We could package Josh Green + Tyrell Terry + DFS/Maxi + 2025 first + expiring contracts.
I'm not going to argue with you guys all night - if you want to bitch about this, feel free. I have no idea why you'd want to do that to yourself, but in my opinion, the Mavs are LEARNING. This is how the greats, like Riley, have been doing it for years.

They have tried some really dumb approaches in the past, but this one is right on target.

They are a lock to make the playoffs, and I actually think they've given themselves an outside chance to advance! They have the face of the NBA on his ROOKIE DEAL, and they're looking to build a DYNASTY. I don't know if they'll get there, but OMG am I glad they're not just chasing the red dot around the room like my cat does anymore.

... Its just that I am a much bigger Bogdon stan.

2027 is the soonest you can offer as 2023 has protections.

Riley clears capspace when he needs it. He is smart enough to give 1+1 deals to players that he wants to keep.
