Resulting lineup:

Luka/Oladipo/THJ/Maxi/KP
Brunson/Curry/DFS/Powell/WCS

That's an impressively balanced and deep group with everyone 30 or under. If it works, it can be locked up long term. And if it doesn't there's still flexibility to replace THJ and Oladipo with a max FA.

Setting aside the specific terms of the proposed trade, IMO that's not a bad plan.

Where can we sign?

I'd do it if you take one of the picks out. Don't really care which.

Wow. (hypothetically) You get Indy to propose an offer like that and you would throw it away for a second round pick?

Oh, if we keep 31, I probably do it. I'll come out and say this though - I can foresee a scenario in which Oladipo defers to Luka, he improves as a player, Luka improves his off-ball shooting, and things work pretty well. I don't think that happens, but it's possible. However, if that happens, I still think that, within that occurrence, it's virtually certain that 1) Oladipo isn't worth a max, but 2) won't play for anything else, and so goes elsewhere out of butthurt (still not making the max) if nothing else. I think the chances of Oladipo suiting up for the Mavs in 2021-22 if we trade for him now are infinitesimally low. So then the question becomes, did he help you win more games during that rental, or did he hurt things? I think that's a dice roll.

I'm just not as big a fan of the player as you. I'm not sure he's better than THJ next year, tbh.

I WOULD do it, but I'm not throwing a party.

Or perhaps situation in OKC was one, situation in Indiana was another. Dipo adjusted. So we can quite safely assume, he will adjust in Dallas.

Regarding the contract year - if anything, this is a positive. He desperately needs to show he is worth max offer. Will he reach that goal by being an innefficient ball hog competing with the clear number one on the team or by being an efficient number two guy? Will Miami (if this is where some see him) pay him max for being number one next to The Freak and Butler? Best he can do for his contract is to bring Dallas a couple of steps further in playoffs than they were this season.

I agree with this point. If the dude is ever going to have another good year, you can bet he's mustering up everything he can to make sure it's THIS coming year.

If he plays again like the all stars Dipo from two years ago, Mavs have absolutely no problem paying him the max, when he is already on the team. It's not like we would lose cap space over this. Think Middleton type of deal.

Good argument. but I still think he's a rental.

As Killer said, I think THJ is a better fit, and everyone knows I want *him* gone. The reason I don't hate that "Windhorst" deal even though I hate 18 for Dipo and 18 to dump Wright is that it accomplishes both.

Oh, I think the list of things I came up with are possible, but I don't think Dipo will ever be that All-Star guy again. I actually don't see that as being within the realm of possibility. Perhaps that helps make it clear why we disagree.
Scott I prefaced Jrue as unlikely so ya he's borderline not worthy of being on the list. If he really is out of reach then my list is pretty much:

1. Dipo
2. Shroder

Again I would be happy with either. I don't think the Mavs are going to draft a player with 18. I think they will try to get the best player they can via trade and/or dump Wright with that pick.

The arguments against Dipo as a player or regarding his contract are the very reason why he's available via trade at all. If he was a healthy 2-time all-star the Mavs wouldn't have the assets to get him. As it is, his stock is lower which makes him potentially available for a package that includes #18.

Gotta add some forwards to that list or we're gonna end up with THJ/Doncic guarding LBJ/AD/Kawhi. Maybe we find one for the MLE ?

Harkless would be a good pickup on a 1 year MLE deal. Good defender, but a poor 3pt shooter - although not as anemic as MKG or DJJ.

If New York strikes out on point guards like CP3 and FVV, Dallas could also look into a Wright for Harkless sign and trade.

In the Windhorst trade, Wright is gone to Indiana.
Well ya for sure we would add other players, I am talking ab Mavs 1 big move this summer.

Also I should mention Schroder would not cost THJ vs a Dipo trade probably would need to involve THJ. If you think Schroder/Dipo give you a similar overall player in terms of talent/production then a Schroder trade for 18 + Wright/Jackson would be an overall win.
I like super Mario (Dirk respecter/Rick can get the most out of him) but he isn't a defensive juggernaut or anything. Should be cheap. Crowder for MLE if he isn't mad at Rick lol?

Well yeah....because Riley actually knows what he is doing....
My fellow arm chair GMs, 2020 has sucked so let's be good to one another please.

I'm still against Dipo. He's had one good season prior to the injury and I don't really see him as a starter in Dallas. He seems at his best with the ball in his hands and Luka just dominates in that regard. I guess he'd be fine if you want to make him your super sixth man a la Terry.
Any good playmaker is going to take the ball out of Luka's hands at times. That's okay. Luka can't have the ball 100% of the time.
Man I'm not enamored with Oladipo but some of yall are really overrating the #18 pick since it's draft season and people are hyped about their pet cats.  That's a low risk move if the front office likes him.

Cant really say personally cause I'd have to have access to his medicals, every second he played, the scuttlebutt around the league, etc.  The fact that he's only signed for this year is a good thing.  You get a free run without any long term commitment.

Everyone seems to agree we need a real 3rd and/or 4th best player.  We're gonna have to take some risks like we did with KP.  Even if we have 2021 cap space, there arent really a lot of attractive and attainable names if/when you strike on Giannis.

If you "hit" on a guy like Oladipo, you're probably one piece away from being a legit title contender.  If you can get rid of Wright in a trade for him, that's another bonus.

Not really sure what your definition of good is but I think he was at least an above average starter for his entire career. Clearly better than THJ right now. Better than guys like Aaron Gordon, Otto Porter or Josh Richardson have ever been. Agree that he only had one season were he looked like a legit star player.
My biggest concern about his post injury performance is the lack of quickness on defense. That´s what made him a good player prior to his breakout season. He was able to defend the most athletic guards in the league. And that´s exactly what the Mavs desperately need.

I am not sure if he is the right guy but I definitely prefer him on a max deal over any of the listed guys on a 20+ mio deal.
