I am one of those Brunson stans.

... Its just that I am a much bigger Bogdon stan.

I can forgive you for liking Brunson, but the Millsap snub crosses you off my Christmas Cookie Basket list.
See you guys next year when the Giannis pipe dream falls apart. Normally I am not for it but I will go full I told you so mode when the Mavs don´t get something useful next summer. Feel free to do the same if they actually manage to land Giannis.

No one thinks Giannis is realistically coming my dude.

They have tried some really dumb approaches in the past, but this one is right on target.

They are a lock to make the playoffs, and I actually think they've given themselves an outside chance to advance! They have the face of the NBA on his ROOKIE DEAL, and they're looking to build a DYNASTY. I don't know if they'll get there, but OMG am I glad they're not just chasing the red dot around the room like my cat does anymore.

Riley clears capspace when he needs it. He is smart enough to give 1+1 deals to players that he wants to keep.

lol, you are literally going out of your way to be against this. THESE WERE TRADES, MY GUY - the mavs didn't choose the contract lengths!!! They just made smart trades that make them better without hamstringing themselves.

They saw a player they liked who they could get on a VALUE deal - BOOM! 3 years for Burke! Best signing of the night, in my opinion - from ANY team.

THEY. GOT. BETTER. I see no evidence of anything they COULD have done that would've been MORE exciting, other than WOOD, who half of us didn't want, anyway.

The post championship blunders can't hurt you anymore. This is a whole new team. Let it go. I'm begging you, because I know you love the Mavs and you deserve to enjoy the greatness that's unfolding right in front of you. What they are doing is GENIUS.

For the billionth time, IT'S NOT JUST ABOUT GIANNIS. I feel like you're trolling. Are you trolling? If so, I'll just move on.

There's nothing they didn't do that I wish they HAD done. NOTHING. This is AMAZING team building. I literally can't believe how much better their on court outlook FOR THIS SEASON is after like 72 hours of activity. I'm in awe.

So we are clearing max capspace for Gobert?
Anyone who’s surprised wasn’t paying attention. Defense and toughness was number 1,2 and 3 on the offseason wish list and we aren’t done

What you aren't getting is not getting Giannis doesn't make anything they have done in draft/trade/FA this week incorrect.
I mean we aren't 100% sure that they're done right?  (with the primary goal of cap space next year)

Maybe no one wanted Delon Wright and Justin Jackson and James Johnson expiring was the best they could do and they like the player also.
Porzingis happened because of this new approach.

RICHARDSON happened because of this plan.

This is called SUCCESS. When you have the chance to lock up a player you WANT to lock up, you do it. When you don't, you don't give long term money to mediocre players. I don't need a generational superstar to be a free agent to tell me that. But, if playing smart gets you a meeting with that guy, or some other good opportunity, SUPER!

It's just common sense, and once Luka signs his first extension, your chance to build this way is over.
If you're gonna complain at least make an argument for who you think they should have signed/traded for instead. Like last year it was super easy to point out how much the Mavs screwed up by not going after Brogdon.

They made good use of their draft picks and made one trade that I liked. Now they potentially split the MLE and traded the only contracts that could realistically be used to upgrade the roster this year for 2021 capspace.
The funny thing is that what I am currently witnessing is also happening every single year. The whole year we are talking about the end of plan powder and the need to improve the roster with small moves instead of chasing the big fish. Once we enter free agency it´s forgotten for a few weeks but when it all falls apart everyone was against it all along.

We are still trading THJ + Brunson for Bogi S&T or Buddy Love.  Smile

We are still signing Millsap in the remaining MLE.

I'm guessing Delon's value in dollars was worth maybe half of what we signed him for and that's probably being generous.

Funny thing is that I never said anything against the draft or the first trade. I can agree with a trade that improves the roster and offers flexibilty. I just dislike moves that are only about future capspace.

I agree with you the Mavericks got better. They got bigger and more physically and probably improved offensively as well in the process.

I love what they are doing. I would still love another wing and big though.

Jesus Christ get over yourself.

This is NOT the same ok’d Mavs doing the same old things.

If it was we’d have a bunch of 30+ year olds vets on 1 year deals just trying to get to the next season and stay competitive

Ask yourself this. Are they better today than they were when the playoffs ended.  If you’re saying anything other than YES you’re blind and obviously biased.

There were no splashy moves to be made that were smart and worth it based on the contracts given.

And if you say Trez for the MLE, you’re still wrong because he wasn’t taking that in Dallas. He went to the Lakers and took way less on purpose.

That’s what Dallas will start happening for them when Luka wins the MVP and they go deep in the playoffs.

You’ve been a massive beating complaint about years past.

They are not operating that way again.

This. It’s a dream. Not as much as Lebron or something but still a dream. They aren’t doing all this JUST for Giannis but also for other guys that will be available.

Jesus you can’t even help you self from being a horrible douche bag. It’s for whoever is available that helps next offseason. Or at the trade deadline.

All of this. Even if Giannis or Beal never happens they have made themselves much more enticing and have the ability to make moves next year to finally make them contenders.

they don’t have those moves to make this year.

This isn't just about future cap space. Justin Jackson and Delon Wright fell out of the rotation and weren't getting back in. Mavs traded their salary this year for Johnson who fills a need at the 4/5. He will make the team better on the court. He also comes with the added benefit of an expiring contract which erases the 8.5M owed to Delon in '21-22 season.
IMAGINE IF WE HAD JOHNSON AND RICHARDSON VS THE PAPERCLIPS INSTEAD OF WRIGHT AND JACKSON. MASSIVE IMPROVEMENT!
I can't speak for anyone else, but I like this approach, and not getting Giannis won't make me question it in hindsight one bit.

What I'm sick of is watching Dirk's teams not be built properly to win and then going into every off season with the slim hope of turning old, overpaid player X into old overpaid player Z via trade. The trade is unlikely, and if successful, is probably not what you need, anyway. Dirk's entire career was like that. It SUCKED, and they only got one championship out of it. Dirk deserved so much more for what he gave this city, as did we, the fans.

I like OPTIONS. This off-season was the most asset poor I expect them to be for quite some time, thanks to the KP trade, and the fact that they found Luka a little too fast, and then the team got good a little too fast. Usually, a team in the mavs' position would have a few more busted lottery picks like DSJ laying around waiting to be dangled as assets.

But even in THIS situation, look at what Donnie pulled off! 3 really interesting rookies, 3 new usable players (that will address weakness of the team in a real, tangible way) and possibly more to come. And, they got off of one of their few recent mistakes??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

I full on expected something like #18 going out in a Gallo sign and trade - that was my expectation level coming in. Would you have preferred that? OMG, this is so, so, so much better, imo.

I promise that if you all (mostly @"DanSchwartzman") stop saying "plan powder" you'll feel way better about it. This isn't the same as that. They have Luka and KP. Hell, just say they have Luka. That gives them DIRECTION. Every decision is informed by that, and so far they're making dope decisions.
I go away for awhile and the Mavs get an expiring enforcer for Wright's toiletsville deal and the carrion of Justin Jackson.

I disagree that they're going to trade THJ + Brunson for Hield or Bogi, but I do hope we go after Crowder with the dregs of our MLE...

The roster right now:

Luka-Brunson-Burke
Richardson-Burke-Terry-Green
THJ-DFS-Richardson
Maxi-Johnson-Powell
KP-Maxi-Boban
