How about a cross between Magic, Larry and Harden?

He costs free fifty and is already in our gym
(11-18-2020, 11:58 AM)StepBackJay Wrote: [ -> ]The Hayward thing to me is a little more risky depending on the length of the contract. I haven't seen a hard connection of Mavs and Hayward, only some media folks pondering. If Hayward was on a 1 yr deal I would like it but then I don't think Hayward wants that.

So risk/reward/cost still puts me in the Dipo direction.

This assumes that Oladipo would be a rental. I'm not sure this would be the case. Remember that this ALL started because Oladipo wants a new contract. Not next summer. NOW. Doesn't mean that Dallas or anyone else has to do it, but I doubt they'd pay the asset price in trade NOT to do it.

1) If he's available for a rental price, what's the lowest that gets? Does it include #18 or one of our good role players? Both? I think this price is WAY, WAY too much for the Mavs to pay for an "audition year", given their current situation.

2) If he IS available for a trade without the assets above, doesn't that simply mean that the entire league, including the Pacers, have decided that he's no longer a player who offers any significant value?

To me, whether it's #1 or #2, it's a bad, bad move.
We already have Michael. We hope we have Scottie already. We’re definitely missing Dennis
@KL I don't have answers to these questions other than to say players are pretty good at forcing their way off a team, especially small market teams in a contract year. I would not be surprised at all if the Pacers feel forced to move him without much of a return.
Dennis Schroeder just went for a usable player and a late 1st.

You guys mean to tell me that:

A) Former All Star Victor Oladipo's stock is so low right now that he can be had for less, BUT

B) As soon as you make the trade, you're confident that he'll resume his former All Star form?

There is absolutely no logical basis for the above.

Schroeder was a steal. I do think Dipo's stock is lower. I don't know whether he will be an all-star but I think he's a good fit next to Luka and would be an upgrade over THJ (assuming you wouldn't have both on the team).

I found the closest thing to Michael Jordan that won´t cost any assets. Wink

I am not sure you need to do a draft-day trade for Dipo. It could be a Thursday trade that involves THJ. Their salary is the same. THJ is a good locker room guy. Mavs could "sell high" on THJ who had a very nice year last year and swap him out for Dipo straight up.

Another idea would be THJ + Wright for Dipo + Lamb on Thursday. Lamb was injured last year some and considered a disappointment. He and Wright are in similar boats altho Wright has less money on his deal. Lamb is a shooter and plus defender kinda? that would probably fit in Dallas' system.

I just hope they don't do something silly like bring him back for more money. Plenty of centers out there. Hartenstein or Luka buddy Hernangomez would be two cheap young options with potential upside.

You are soooooo my nemesis on this.

I am fine with a buy-low, high-risk swing on Dipo as long as #18 is NOT involved (ok with #31).

There is no market for him, so the Mavs better not outbid themselves. Play hard ball.

Not happening, #18 is our only asset. We should jump on Dipo if he's available for #18 and fillers.

Why do you have such a hell-bent hate for the Dallas Mavericks?

Ok, so here's my retort to this, and I want to be very, very clear:

1) I don't believe for a second that this is how the deal would look. I think the player at #18 would be the entire point of doing the deal for Indiana.

2) If #1 is WRONG, which is possible, and he is available for the packages you're envisioning, that means Indiana would rather have THJ on an expiring deal than Oladipo on an expiring deal. Let that truly sink in. Your mind will go to lots of dark places.

3) This is only my humble prediction, but IF Oladipo is available for those packages, then I, personally, will take it as a sign that what I've been hearing/reading about Oladipo (that he's done being a difference making player for good) are true, and in the Mavs current predicament, I can see moving a guy who can really, really shoot and fits in the locker room (THJ) for a guy whose entire goal is get one, last big contract (Oladipo) having ramifications we don't like. Like, missing the playoffs, even. MAYBE.

We don't have to keep talking about this. I PASS, you're in favor, and we've covered it more than enough. Neither of us is running the team, so I guess we'll just see what happens. If they trade for Oladipo, I'll be right there with you hoping for the best.

Which is way better than finding an unhealthy player who used to be cabable of being a 3rd best player, getting him in hope that he is still that player, and then finding out he's not that player anymore.

I'm not overly familiar with that source. Any reason to doubt its legitimacy?

Quality source...
I have NO IDEA what the appeal of Dinwiddie is.....I look and look, nothing.....
Not a fan, can't really shoot nor defend at a high level. The fit with Luka is iffy.

What is the appeal with him?

He looks like a rich mans Delon Wright (also Delon's defense is probably better) to me. Ain't a Rick type player. And wasting assets on a 6th man is pretty dumb.

Every other player feels smarter?
Probably wants our draft picks for the Harden deal.
I still don't know about Dinwiddie's defense, but I'm warming up to him on the other end. I think his 3pt shooting could skyrocket in Dallas. Last year only about 25% of his attempts were wide open compared to 80% for DFS. And he certainly fits the bill as a secondary playmaker.
Does he get injured since that is a thing now.
