They would never trade OPJ straight up for him as you are claiming. Harris is perhaps marginally better but costs like 120 mil more. This is just silly take

I don't think so, I guess we'll see? We aren't going to be able to settle these bets I suppose until we see what returns teams are actually getting. I would argue Harris value as a player is much more than OPJ and so I am not sure the Sixers would do that trade. Again we will see this summer. Harris is going to be most teams 2nd or 3rd best player (in some cases their first bc the league is so talent starved).

Of course it will not happen, because Philly will not do it. The same as OPJ for Harris straight up trade will not happen, because Chicago would never do it.

Am I the only one who would far rather have OPJ than Tobi at the same money??

Houston fan chatter that there’s mutual interest in WB to Phoenix centered around Rubio. Apparently Monty Williams and WB are close from their time at OKC. They wouldn’t need to salary match either so Houston could avoid the luxury tax

This would be great. Phoenix out of playoff race taking a couple of steps back Smile
Damn, the NBA is so much fun.
I will go on the record:

I believe that OPJ is going to SHINE on the next contender he gets on to and help take them to the next level. Many in the league will be kicking themselves wishing he was on their team and they had tried to get him. He is totally wasted in a situation like CHI, he needs to be a supporting role to stars like the Mavs have.

I mean, Rubio is not really a shooter but he is a true PG, general on the floor and he made Phoenix much better immediately. Westbrook is DSJ on steroids, low basketball IQ, horrible long term all flexibility killing contract, declining athleticism and shooting. What will Phoenix do next? Trade Ayton and go full small ball, because you can't have two non shooters on the floor in the modern NBA?
I would rather have OPJ than Harris who is sort of an empty stats player but clearly Harris has had a bigger market value than OPJ in recent years. The Bulls got OPJ from the Wiz for basically nothing but trash. In 2019 Harris was traded for a much better package and subsequently got a max contract. So it's not even really debatable unless you want to just ignore what transpired in 2019.

I put in the comparison for the past five years, and it made OPJ look better. Couldn't help notice the difference in DRPM, which might be what matters most to me for the Mavs.

Kamm, I'm all in on your OPJ trade. I might even like it best if it somehow *doesn't* include THJ. That would give us very strong options for '21.

I was just curious how they compared.  OPJ is fine, I doubt the Mavs do either.  Though his FT percent is .10 worse and I am tired of players missing free throws.  Including precious Luka.

OPJ is a signficantly better team defender than Tobias according to the numbers.

Yeah I am totally fine with THJ being around, what I am not fine with is his role staying the same. He needs to be downgraded and asked to do less on BOTH ends.

Oh, it has nothing to do with THJ fandom and everything to do with '21 flexibility. A lot would have to do in '21 with OPJ's willingness to buy into "shared sacrifice" as our #3 or (fingers crossed) #4 player. If he walked, we whiffed on GA, and ended up re-signing THJ to a big deal, ouch.
So would OPJ be our Shawn Marion type with KP and Luka?  I'd be OK to move THJ because he is not a Jason Terry type.

Go figure why, that is really a mistery Smile Harris contract in the trade from Clippers was ok. OPJ contract from Washington was way too high. Consequently, Philly paid big price and Chicago gave a bunch of trash to Washington to get rid of that albatross contract. Today OPJ contract is not that horrible anymore, as he has just one year left. Harris on the other hand received a hugely overpaid max contract, which will be horrible for the next three seasons. At least.

Harris might be a good third guy, but he is paid as a star. That's why it makes no sense for a rebuilding team to build around him, because it will kill their flexibility. They will be too good to get really good picks and not nearly good enough to compete. Very limited possibility for them to get that number one or two guy. Rebuilding team will not pay assets for that contract. They expect assets for him.

Dallas, on the other hand, already has a number 1 and 2 guy and is looking for number 3. Still, Harris would kill all our flexibility and bring us many risks, that's why we are also not really prepared to pay assets for him.

Philly has two options:
1. They can keep Harris. He is decent player, just way overpaid. I would do that if I was them.
2. Find a rebuilding team with a better fitting player on similar horrible contract (like CP3 for example) and pay them an asset or two for the trade. That team might appreciate a bit less horrible contracts from a team LIKE Dallas, because they don't need Harris anyway.

First of all I don´t think that it makes sense to compare any future Mavs contender with the 2011 team. Just special circumstances with a unique group of veterans.
Doncic and KP are 10-15 years away from that point of their career.
Just looking at his skill set Porter isn´t anything like Marion. Probably a more balanced player but impact wise clearly worse. Marion was an elite defender/rebounder with solid slashing and cutting ability. Porter is an above average defender but not a lockdown onball defender or a great help side defender like Marion.
On offense his shooting ability makes him a more versatile scorer and more useful off the ball.

I like his fit next to Luka and KP but I think ideally he takes DFS role. He is not a shot creator and just like DFS not strong enough to guard the bigger forwards in the league.
I am also not willing to give up a lot for a player with an expiring contract.
