OKC: Wright, DFS, Beverly, #18, #10
Pho: CP3
Dal: Oubre, Shamet
Clippers: Rubio

My original instinct was to send Shamet to Dallas.  I think Donnie really likes him.  I don't think what you present here is crazy, but I don't think it works for Dallas if you break it down.

Would you trade 18 for Shamet straight up?  I don't think so.  He's a nice bench player and I wouldn't mind having him, but I'm not sure 18 for Shamet is fair (and I like Shamet)

So, on to Wright/DFS for Oubre.  You are basically giving up DFS (arguably the better player here) for the right to turn Wright into an expiring deal.  Feels like another loss for Dallas.  I suspect we can use 31 to move Wright if anything is needed at all.  I'd rather have DFS than Oubre and therefore wouldn't make this part of the deal unless I'm getting something greater (like a 10 for 18 pick swap).

Of course, this is what negotiations look like.  Each side has goals and they don't necessarily line up.  You either compromise or move on.  I think there is enough smoke in this conversation that it is certainly worth discussing.

I could not agree with you more on all this.

@"DanSchwartzman" is working off the reported components. He is making those components work.

Obviously things would be super fluid and could change, but 31 has never been reported while a swap of 10 and 18 has been reported.

Could be:
Donnie: I'd like Oubre for Wright.
Presti: if you add #18.
Donnie: do you add #10 then?
Presti: only if you add DFS.
Donnie: ok fun is over, let's see if we can fleece the clippers.
You guys are so bad at #beprepared

I'm going to have at least a week long head start on you when it's time to go through the stages of grief.
^ good back and forth from Dan

I was thinking more along the lines of Oubre athletic potential and DFS as a wash. (even though I agree with you about Oubre not being very good)

Giving up 18 is too much to get rid of Delon.  Giving up 31 is probably about right.  But 18 and getting Shamet back might be comparable.  As much as we talk about how much a bargain DFS is, Shamet is signed for $2 million this coming season and has a $3.75 million option for 2021-2022.  Dude has good size and is a knock down 3pt shooter.

I guess it comes down to what the Mavs think of Oubre.  The fact that they were actually pursuing THJ when they lucked into the KP deal makes me think maybe they actually like Oubre and his potential more than DFS.  Also remember the Mavs were hot an heavy on Derrick Jones Jr last offseason.  He's a lefty with a 7' wingspand.  Oubre has a 7'2" wingspan and you can probably add 2-4 percentage points to his 3pt shot playing with Luka.

edit:  that Fish article states the Mavs have always liked Oubre

I read it and didn't post it. Fish is putting the lowest amount of effort into Mavs these days...

Wow, I always knew the Mavs didn't like Schroeder, but I never knew that was because DIRK didn't like him. I'm actually glad I read that.

Thanks @"DanSchwartzman"
Dear Basketball Gods,

Cow here. Look, I've never asked for much especially after that magic ride you gave us in 2011. I've tried not to be greedy. When Utah decided to move on from Millsap in favor of Favors, I said, "Lord, give Donnie and Mark the wisdom to sign him." You didn't listen and that's cool. It seems like Paul had a great time in Atlanta and has found a home in Denver. When Will The Thrill was entering free agency, I again got on my knees. "God, please deliver him to us as we could use a super sixth man who could start in a pinch and always fills it up." Again my prayers were unanswered and again, that's cool. The Nuggets saw the potential in Mr. Barton and that's seemed like a happy marriage.

Now I'm coming to you again and I'm still trying not to be greedy. Our friend Russell needs a new home and he really likes Giannis and the Bucks. Please deliver him to this new home. I think he'll be really happy in Milwaukee and he seems like the PERFECT fit alongside Giannis. Pretty please with a cherry on top.

Thank you,

cow
Does anyone else think Fish got the bulk of that article by reading this forum today?

Fish, if you're reading this, I hope you're doing well!

Funny how we're all giving out compliments like they're free and yet I get no credit for helping you dudes BE PREPARED.

First, you intentionally don't tell me about the board, and now this. I'm starting to get the hint.
