Re: Lavine - he might be abysmal on D, but the extent to which he would loosen the defensive pressure on Luka and KP would open another universe of cheat codes for the Mavs' offense.
Is it unreasonable that I'm pissed off about not having any news for several hours?

This is going to be a long week. I don't remember caring quite this much about any other Mavs offseason. I don't know if it's the new young core or just needing something to get my head out of the hell that has been 2020, but I'm having trouble focusing on literally anything else these days.

I don't think I'd be trying on defense very hard either. Stuck in Minny that's a joke of a franchise since KG left.

Being in Minny didn't stop Jimmy Butler from playing defense.

If you got it, you show it. Lavine rarely show consistent D. Yeah, bring the guy here and your going to get points, AND lose the points gain because of bad Defense.

Definite No from me.

Whats the point of #1 offense in the League if it doesn't net you wins? I get it, he is an offensive genius. But if its last 2 minutes, behind 6 points, I'm not easily going to believe his going to lockdown or gel into team defense overnight over one season.
I have to say, my initial gut reaction to the LaVine rumor was there was no way he could possibly be available, but seeing how polarizing he is to fans, I'm starting to rethink that.

For me it is the new young core.  Maybe a bit spoiled with Luka and KP being added in consecutive years and the hope the Mavs can make a third move right now.  If not, the 2021 offseason is only 9 months away.
Quote:In an extensive look at intriguing free agent Pistons big man Christian Wood, Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer offers some intel on Wood’s possible asking price in free agency and his potential suitors.

There is a significant disparity among O’Connor’s league sources in gauging the annual cost of Wood. Some speculate that Wood may net a deal in the range of the non-taxpayer mid-level exception – which starts at $9.3MM per year – while others think he could earn as much as $18MM a season, equivalent to the current yearly take of Pacers center Myles Turner with incentives. O’Connor expects both championship-caliber clubs looking to add size and young squads making a playoff push to have an interest in Wood’s services.

Almost forgot about Wood for the MLE!

That one seemed like a long shot from jump street, which is probably why I apple-deleted it.

Defense is one of the biggest part of Butler's game tho. Butler also got ticked off at the losing culture in Minny too. Lavine getting out of Minny I think has definitely been great for his game. He's averaged over 23 points the last 2 seasons since leaving Minny (disregarding his shortened injury recovery season of 24 games) with better advanced metrics.

Mavs had the #1 ranked offense. But go check their offensive ranking the last 5 minutes of the game. Mavs still have huge offensive issues. Their current solution is "Here is the ball Luka, go save us". Luka will continue to get better and better in that role but having one guy doing everything isn't the way to a championship.

I think he's available, I just don't see us having the ammo to acquire.

Steph Curry:

"I talked to James [Harden] in the back...obviously complemented him on what he's done. First thing he says is, it's fun, but I want to play different. Playing by myself or w/e, heroball -- he don't want to play like that. A system where they can actually play beautiful basketball."

Another part to consider.

There might be 20-30 players that will look completely different from their pre-bubble play, just because they had some real time off to work on their bodies and games without the playing stress, the travel stress, the recovery and mental stress. Might be some that got lazy or simply old, too. It´s been nine months for some players. That´s the longest off-season they had since highschool/college.

The same is obviously true for all the college kids, but they have to figure out the NBA with no summer-league or pre-season. Though they probably have the advantage of the condensed schedule and covid cases giving them default minutes.
Thought for the morning...I wonder if we are all sleeping a bit on the Evan Fournier mention in the Townsend article.  Everyone has focused on the being aggressive with spending and moving up in the draft part of the story with little discussion of a Fournier trade and the MLE to C. Wood.

There were DSJ to Orlando rumors in 2019 before the Knicks trade with Fournier as the target.  He provides a little bit of playmaking, but is really good off movement and off the ball in the corner or in C&S situations.  He’s a rental, which somewhat devalues him, but I think the same kind of deal we talked about with Phoenix might be the package...DFS, Wright and 18 for Fournier and 15.  With Augustine as a FA, Orlando could actually use Wright.  DFS is a hometown boy and they really need some help at SF.

This violates one of my admonitions about trading option players at the draft.  I’ve never said it can’t be done.  I’ve said the player is in control of his own timing.  If you are Fournier and you have a chance to spend your contract year with Luka, what do you do?  I bet he would opt in a day or two early for the chance to be in Dallas.

I could see the potential of this happening in the new season as well and being expanded to include Gordon and THJ...probably without the pick swap.  The idea of DFS being something Dallas is willing to move has really shifted my thinking on the possibilities out there.  While we go pages at a time on Oubre and LaVine, I wonder if Fournier isn’t the more likely fit.

I think Fournier is probably as likely as anything.

point of clarification, though: we got that from NBASupes, the Hawks guy, not from Townsend.
According to multiple league sources, the Knicks have discussed the specifics of a package that would bring the 2016-17 NBA MVP to New York. The sources indicate that none of the Knicks’ key young pieces are on the table (read: RJ, Mitch, and as far as I can tell, Knox and Ntilikina) nor will they be. The same goes for any of New York’s own draft picks. I’ve heard Julius Randle would be going, along with some sort of draft asset – maybe 27, maybe 38, maybe one of the Dallas picks – but I can’t confirm which.
I want to emphasize that this does not – I repeat NOT – mean that a deal is on the verge of happening. I don’t know how many stages are involved in NBA deal-making, but the impression I’m getting is that things have now moved past Stage 1.
As I’ve repeated ad nauseam this offseason, Leon Rose is not going to overpay for anyone. If Charlotte or another team decided it wants to pay a high enough price for Russ, my guess is that he’ll be theirs. But the sense I get is that if this comes down to merely taking on the remainder of Westbrook’s contract without having to give up a key asset, Brodie will be a Knick.

lololololol, Westbrook would be the most Knicks move ever.

The first 25-30 minutes of this is Bill freestyle musing over most of the same trade rumors we've discussed here. There are some interesting, out of the box takes, and it's worth hearing, imo.

There are a lot of rumors. Everyone has opinions. But at the end of the day, I will do what is best for my family. I do not see why I could not be in Milwaukee for several years. As long as Milwaukee and I are on the same page when it comes to being one of the best teams in the league and winning championships, that's fine. When it changes, it will not be good. It's easy, I want to be a winner. I do not care about the money. My family is fine and I can take care of my children and grandchildren so that's not the most important thing right now, it's winning. As long as we can win and create a winning culture, it will be good.
Your plan is to play in Milwaukee this season and then maybe extend?
I do not know what the plan is. It depends on what decisions they make. If they make the right decision, I'll be there for many years, if they do not, we'll see. The NBA is business and we take it day by day. Hopefully we can succeed together.

I´ll have to say that I assume all these trade rumours are BS, because of the intense dislike of Westbrook by media and fans alike, but just in case they are true, we should throw THJ, Wright and Powell into the ring. Big Grin

I have heard

From Charlotte: Rozier + Batum(maybe Zeller if we feel gracious)
From Chicago: OPJ + Young
From Knicks: Randle + Portis
From Orlando: Fultz + Gordon

I guess it would be Orlando, because they don´t have enough insulting contracts to match the salary and a few bigs.

I'm sorry...did you just suggest that our Mavs trade for Westbrook? RUSSELL Westbrook?
