Because until Powell was hurt KP was our starting stretch 4 that plays good defense.

Personally I think people get way too caught up in positional definitions. Dallas has two of the most unique and multi-talented players in the entire league with Luka and KP. They're arguably a 6'8" PG and a 7'3" SG. You can mix in almost any good players around them and make it work. So get the best players you can and figure it out later.

Injury concerns. KP gets hurt again and we move on. No player his size has played more than 1000 NBA games. Therefore i think it’s important to at least keep a two time DPOY on our radar

The fit defensively would be awkward(probably play zone). Offensively i don’t see how KP plays any different than your typical stretch 4

It's already been decided. Mavs will use KP at the 5. Down the stretch Rick had an opportunity to play a bigger guy next to KP and didn't. Even when we only had KP and Maxi as healthy bigs Rick would play Jax at the four over Boban.

Rick wants that spacing offensively with KP and thus will put a stretch 4 next to him. I would prefer Maxi over DFS many nights.

I do think Mavs need another big, that's why I like Baynes. He is very underrated and can help this team. I think KP should play zero back to backs the rest of his career. Mavs do not need to break the bank to shore up the big rotation.

Good stuff, Dan.

I'll also point out that there are at least two other frontcourt players that appear very attainable via trade and could fit well in Dallas -- Turner and Gordon.
The King are always so confusing. Feels like the obvious plan would be to trade Hield for an asset or 2 and just match whatever offer Bogdan gets

It is always a two way game. Do you think those guys want to run around after KP on the three point line? No, they want to be parked in the paint guarding some non shooter. All teams with classical centers were actually hiding them on DFS or Kleber defensively, not KP: Having five shooters is much bigger advantage than one banger down below. Besides, KP never really had problems with those bangers.

Nice.

I've seen greedy Boston fans assuming that they'll S&T Hayward to Charlotte and nab Bogi into the TPE. It's entertaining to see them pound sand one more time.

And good for Atlanta. It's always good to see talent move East and bad teams become competitive.

I think people understand Jay. KP will play center a lot in 5-out situations. But do you really want KP banging with guys like Jokic, Nurkic, Harrell, Ibaka, McGee, Zubac, Valanciunas, Adams, Ayton, even Poetl for half the game?

Powell might be our answer, but even he will have a hard time against those guys. We saw that last year. The Mavs need a starting center with some beef. Just like the Lakers need a center to protect AD.

I completely agree with you. I think with we will be much more balanced team if we sign a center, instead of power forward.

I think we need to look some things in a little bit different way. KP si unique player. In offense he plays much more like a 4, than a 5. But in defense, there is a lot of things that depends on a opposite players. He can't fight with stronger centers mentioned and it's bad perimeter defender beacuse of his size.

So in that way, we need to add a player who could do a ''dirty work'' and fight with stronger centers and who is also athletic enough to defend a quicker power forwards.

Gobert isn't that and also doesn't fit with his game in offense. Especially not for a max contract.

I still think that the perfect player for that role is Myles Turner. On the both sides of the floor. It's also on a decent contract, Texas native and it's perfect fit for that Dallas longterm roster.

A lot of people saying that Indiana project with Sabonis and Turner didn't work, but Porzingis is much more athletic, plays much more outside the rim and Turner would be perfect big next to him.

With Indiana's locker room problems and Oladipo staying we should try everything to bring him to Dallas.

What is your opinion what Indiana would want for him?

Kleber + Johnson/Powell + draft picks? Or try a 3 team trade?

Sacramento should now screw them by matching the offer and trade us Buddy Smile
If Gobert is the guy, I'll trust Carlisle but my initial reaction would be massive disappointment.  I could see other teams going small and easily forcing one of the twin towers to the bench at crunch time.

Werd.  That seems like a reasonable offer to let an asset walk for nothing.

Thanks.  It really started out as just an example of what could be since deals aren’t final yet and we have this mystery about roster spots.  I thought Gobert was a good way to illustrate the math.  I like him here, but I’m not sure Maxi/Brunson comes anywhere near Utah’s asking price.

Maybe Turner is a better example.  Lamb is hurt and who knows what is going to happen with Dipo.  Maybe he goes to the loser of the Bogdanovic sweepstakes and they value THJ.  I could see that if THJ agreed to an extension and the return for Dipo was a better frontcourt fit with Sabonis.

If they match, I think they are not allowed to trade him for a year

Hardaway + Brunson gets it done. Not advocating, and I don’t think Dal would. Indy was 4 seed w/out Oladipo.  THJ + Warren + Brogdon is lethal offensively. Turner and Sabonis at the 4 and 5.  That’s a good team.
Utah would have to be convinced Gobert would leave them with no compensation and the Mavs have to be convinced GA is not available.  I don't think we are at that point.  It is fun to think about though.
