1. Some kind of Wright upgrade/dump centered around #18
2. THJ stays
3. Short-term or partial MLE used on player(s)
4. Powder saved for 2021

I think it's possible they'll make an additional medium sized trade in addition to your numbers 1 and 3, or maybe instead of #3, but all in all, this is pretty much exactly what I expect, too.

I'd be shocked if THJ doesn't opt in, and I think they want him back for next year, even if that ends up being his last.
TJ Warren and Grant available last year for nearly free. Not worried about us coming up with something acceptable on the cheap(18, MLE)

Suns gave up a pick to trade TJ away. Grant is a shame but the Mavs couldn't trade their pick at that time (not sure whether they had interest?) bc they can't do back-to-back pick trades. The challenge is that the Mavs want a very good player but also one that doesn't eat into 2021 space. I am not sure who qualifies once you get past the sexy names like Jrue & Oladipo who are likely out of the Mavs price range. #18 gets you into the Oubre, Schroeder tier of trade targets.

Wright, Jackson and 18 is just 300k away from being able to match on Oladipo. Wonder is 31 and a future 2nd added would get it done. The pick 18 value would be counted as salary in any trade we make with it since we will draft them first for the other team then trade

Ok, so this is an important point of divergence, and the source of a lot of arguments here, I think.

I'm with you, and buy your logic completely, BUT I think Holiday and Oladipo are two examples of trades that, if available, would make you say "f our 2021 cap space." I don't know if the Mavs would agree, but I DO think there are targets other than Giannis that they're looking at, and I do think they'll pull the trigger if one comes available.

If what's available is all Oubre level, I agree - pick one that doesn't kill your space.

I think people opposed read comments like yours and just see "plan powder" which was a Fish invention, and described something totally different than what they're doing now. I would never, ever use that term to describe what I would be trying to accomplish right now if I were them.

It's not "what's the best thing I can do while ensuring I have space in 2021," it's "what's the best thing I can do, and IF I think it's as good or better than having space in 2021, I do it. If not, I don't."

For me, I think Jrue Holiday or Oladipo are options you consider really carefully if they're actually available to you.

I don't know about "cheap" but I think it's very likely he moves. I think OKC is about to be a fire sale. Seems like they're about to hit the rebuild button, finally, and the last thing you want on a young team is for your best player (assuming they can move Chris Paul) to be a guy with character issues. Plus, you know the guy will sign with a team that's not rebuilding next year when his contract expires, so I think he'd prefer to get something for him now, especially since Schroder just had a career year.

I'd also expect Adams to be traded for sure, and we might see a sign and trade for Gallo.

If they can't find a home for Chris Paul's contract and they HAVE to bring him back, I suppose it's possible that they try to make the playoffs again, but the coach leaving has to signal that this is not their hope, I'd think.

Assuming that the Schroder issues aren't prohibitive, he could be a lot of what we've been screaming for around here. He helps you defensively, for sure, and I think he gives you at least some of what you got from Burke in the playoffs. Part of me thinks the Mavs won't touch him with a 10 foot pole, and part of me thinks we should almost expect him to be a Mav. Sports are fun.

@"Hypermav" I just recently discovered Christian Wood. That dude would look sooooooo good in the Powell role here. I think he's gonna get PAID in Detroit though.

Never say never. I would send THJ since he would be able to replace some production that they would be losing from Oladipo. It's worth a shot, I just think he'll be part of a bigger trade than what the Mavs could do.

In my opinion, if OKC is rebuilding full time, Schroeder will be moved for sure. Young players with upside and picks are the only thing interesting. So what package can they get? Looking at draft order and teams with higher picks. I will disregard some wild scenarios where GSW offers #2 for Schroeder and a couple of OKC picks.

1. I think picks 1-9 are too valuable to trade for an expiring guy and I only see one team as having interest in expiring Schroeder. Chicago could use him and they could build the offer around younger players like Markanen or Carter. Felicio as salary match. OKC should have no problem sending a pick back.

2. First team that would make sense to trade 2020 pick for Schroeder would be Phoenix at 10. Since they have cap space I think something like Kaminsky + #10 works. They wouldn't even need to renounce Saric. But I guess they could also do better with #10. Schroeder is an expensive bench guard and possible one year rental. They already have one in Oubre.

3. San Antonio, Sacramento and Boston don't make sense to trade for him.

4. NOLA at #13 could flip Ball for him, although younger assets/picks should be more attractive for them.

5. Orlando could really need him. They have #15. Ross+#15? Aminu+Bamba? Aminu+Birch+15? But does it really make sense to throw away a decent pick for him in their position? It is not like they are one Schroeder away from contending and their season will be sad with Isaac out anyway. I would do a GSW tank in their place. Trade Gordon for assets. Give Fultz another season of top minutes in hope he does a full come back. Play Okeke and #15 minutes heavy minutes. Than you can get a high pick in 2021, Isaac back and perhaps a foundation for something good.

6. I have a hard time seeing Portland or Minny going after him. The rest of the teams have worst picks and we can match any seconds being thrown in. I don't believe anyone would pay two firsts for such an expiring contract.

7. Contenders that really need a good PG are Clippers (no fist rounder), Philly (21) and Milwaukee (24). I guess Shamet is better than #18, but which contract can Clippers add? McGruder+Green? Can OKC see Bledsoe and his contract as good value? Or perhaps Ilyasova+Wilson+DiVinzenzo? Philly could realistically only do this trade if Richardson or Horford are going to OKC. None of it seems realistic.

To summarize. Wright+Jackson+#18 (throw in a future second rounder or two if needed) can have a competition, but it is not unrealistic to make it happen.

You’re probably right. To me Oladipo(without Hardaway) and DJJ for the MLE would be about the best case scenario we could hope for. A 23 year old and 28 year old is young enough. That would be more than enough offense with Oladipo and THj as your 3rd and 4th scoring options. Versatile adding two plus defenders. Small ball lineup of Luka/Hardaway/Oladipo/DFS/DJJwould be fire. Lots of lineup combinations

Oh yeah Christian Wood. Me during 2015 NBA draft. Wood is falling. Wood is falling. Kid was projected first round. Surely Mavs take a flyer on him at #52. Please a few more. Projected 1st round talent. #52 arrives. What happens? SATNAM F****** SINGH, projected 18th round talent of the G-League expansion draft.  Big Grin
Yes, choosing Satnam, probably to chase jersey sales in India, just because you don't think you can find a real player at #52 is a great example of Cuban outsmarting himself. There have been others, too. That one is brutal.

To be fair Wood needed multipe years and teams to get it. Eventually he even found his way onto our SL team in 2017 and still didn´t make enough of an impression. Who knows, maybe Christian Wood does make it here immediately, if he has a long-term contract and is surrounded by the great winning culture of the Mavs.

My problem has always been that the draft is a numbers game. If you put in 100% effort all the time and try to make the best selection at #52 every time, you have a chance to eventually land a talent that far exceeds the average career of the pick.

The Mavs instead make these marketing motivated clown picks and then claim/complain that you can´t find talent in the draft like it justifies their "strategy".

All the biggest trades these days are wild trades involving 3-4 teams. GS is interesting because they 1) have the 2nd pick and are in win now mode 2) want to trade wiggins 3) have the biggest trade exception out there at over 17 million...........we already know Philly and OKC are making moves, i could see us getting involved in something like this:

Philly: CP3

Dallas: Richardson

GS: Horford, Schroeder, 18, OKC’s Denver 1st, Philly 1st

OKC: #2 pick, Philly future 1st, Wiggins, Scott, Wright

It would need to be 2 separate trades but something like that would make all these teams better
The Philadelphia 76ers' interest in Mike D'Antoni may not be limited to just his coaching acumen.

John Clark of NBC Sports Philadelphia reported the Sixers believe hiring D'Antoni could help lure James Harden to the franchise. Harden can become a free agent after the 2021-22 season.

Maybe this dude has real info, but my guess is that it's BS clickbait.

You'll never convince me D'Antoni wanted Westbrook, and there are rumors (that I believe) that Morey didn't, either, and that Harden literally went to the owner and talked him into it.

Based on that, doesn't it seem more plausible that D'Antoni saw a chance to leave HARDEN, not just HOUSTON?
