I guess they could still spend the rest of the MLE but it would be to someone willing to settle for a 1yr deal.
Got rid of JJ and Delon for a large expiring, I’m happy as long as we either cash him in this season for max the most or tons of cap space next season.

I get hating plan powder, but:
-They chased Gallo and backed out once the numbers got uncomfortable. I think that's smart.
-What free agency contract that was signed today do you love?
-Free agency isn't over yet.
So far, our two moves (I guess it will depend on draft compensation) are good so far and certainly nothing we are going to regret in a years time. That's a step in the right direction for the MBT.

But they're not failing - it's working. They're keeping a fiscally responsible approach, and one of their value signings just turned into a trade that made our nights two days ago.
Would you rather all of these new players be on longer deals? They can get them all to re-sign if they want. It's not like people are going to be here for a year and say "nah, f playing with Luka. That sucked."
In the meantime, they are keeping the flexibility to pounce on opportunities when they pop up. This is absolutely the way the team should be built. If Richardson is a fit after year 1, his cap hold is only like $16.5 million, which is EASY to work around. There are sooooo many possibilities.

AND, the roster is WAY, WAY better. It's not like they're passing up anything GREAT, or even GOOD to do this. If you didn't KNOW these guys were expiring, you'd be THRILLED!!!

I dont think people are unhappy.
It's just delayed gratification. Now they have a bunch of large expirings for a potential later trade. Or they have a max cap space next summer. But now we dont really expect them to do much else this offseason if they're so hell bent on max cap space next summer.

There were some decent options this year, but all of them had major drawbacks. I can understand why they didn't want to pull the trigger on a huge deal for Gallo or Hayward for example. I would be more disappointed if the Richardson trade hadn't happened. But as it stands, they managed to improve the team anyway.
Given that, I think it's sensible to stay flexible for next offseason. There will be no more powder after Luka's max extension in 2022, so 2021 is when they can fire away with a big offer to someone without worrying.

Are you saying that just to be against the move? He was right at or had career highs in scoring, blocks, steals, rebounds, assists, and three point shooting last year. So yeah, you shouldn't make stuff up just for the hell of it.

Harrell, Favors and RJJ all signed for the MLE. Harrell contract is great. The other two are also positive assets in my opinion.
Maybe I am overreacting but I am already imagining a scenario where the Mavs are chasing Giannis and do not resign THJ and Richardson. Giannis picks a different team and the Mavs can fill out the roster with one year rentals again and repeat the same thing in 2022.
That´s the story of the last 10 years.

Plan powder was and still is about one year rentals to create max capspace. In some years even two max slots.

Apparently he had a good year in MIN. I stand corrected. He looked done when he fell out of the rotation in Miami and they dumped him.

This is what worries me. That year (2022) we will still have KP on his last year of his contract. So in 2023, when his off the books, is when we look to either resign KP or be looking for another star to pair Max contract Luka.
Then again a lot can happen between these 3 years. Does our draft players become starters? Does free agency in 2021 net us a 3rd star? Does KP get career ending injury (knock on wood)? But keeping Luka is the biggest priority, and building the best roster is going to get it done.
Can't complain about anything this offseason...dumped Wright and Jackson...improved our starting lineup and bench while remaining flexible for a disgruntled star if needed...
