Not at all. Milwaukee has a bunch of expiring, who they can use in SnT. Connaughton and similar. They had to renounce Ilyasova, because deadline is today

And from a conspiracy standpoint, maybe it looks better from a league standpoint if the pu pu platter they send over from Bogdan looks different than the tampering version.

A huge IF indeed.
I'd be more inclined to gamble on his health than Dipo's tho.

I've somehow managed to elude both versions of the Office. I haven't watched TV since the early 2000s though.

No those guys are all like Connaughton are already a free agent this summer or opted out. So unless you have a highly complex double SNT in the works which just is an extreme rarity anyways (if ever), you don't have the money unless Bogdan goes for considerably less.

You got 9.2 of contracts + whatever the cap matching rules are for that salary (I think it's 150%?). Everyone else is either in the Jrue trade or someone you aren't trading like Brook Lopez. Robin opted out.

I guess my question is: given the home run they hit last night, and the fact that the team is better RIGHT NOW than it was last year, why ruin this flexibility by "gambling" on ANYTHING?

An expiring OPJ, who, if he works out, you could bring back while NOT giving up THJ, who is in a similar situation? Sign me up.

A reasonable long term commitment to a young, athletic, skilled up and comer like Wood in a sign and trade or (dare we hope) at the MLE? Sign me up.

Ditto on the above situation for Wood, only for Grant? Sign me up.

Griffin, on a bloated contract, who is no longer special, athletically, and has injury issues? In a trade that would kill the flexibility you're still enjoying to this very minute? Who brings a mentality that he should be a star and run a team? Who, while more skilled than he used to be, can NOT be an effective spacer, really, and isn't the rim runner he used to be? No, thanks.

I agree that he's not nearly the risk that Oladipo is, but what I think the Mavs proved last night is that this 2021 plan is WORKING. The team is getting better, and without making wild swings at curveballs. I say keep looking for another situation you LOVE. There's time.

It is exactly this and it is not that complex. Not even my idea, I saw one of the national writers explain

In your ideal scenario are you landing OPJ + signing Wood or Grant. Here is my slight concern:

With DFS, Maxi, Richardson, OPJ, Wood/Grant, how do you develop your #1 draft pick?
Ilyasova for the minimum would be a solid pickup. We need some frontcourt shooting.
Some would pu pu it, but it's not a bad cheap signing and depth.

I would give up Green for Wood or Grant. I don't WANT to. I'd try not to.  But, I would, especially now that we've seen the rest of the plan. I wouldn't do the same for an older guy, like Gallo (though I'd love him on the cheap). And, I think that Green is officially in a spot where you can afford to take it slow with him if you keep him.

EDIT: and I wouldn't want OPJ + one of those guys, I'd want OPJ OR one of those guys. I don't want OPJ as a 3. Like, at all.

Bucks are a "hot mess" right now, them waving Ilyasova means the S & T is dead ?? Bogdan signing for the MLE?

Does Giannis still sign the super max?

Well this is an assumption that Giannis is going to agree to sign his Supermax tomorrow. I suppose if he doesn't you still are holding out.

There is less and less reason to be excited about the 2021 class. Griffin could be apart of that class btw. He's got a player option I think he would be declining if he is healthy based on his performance 2 years ago. I don't think he's on the block although he should be.
You'd also have to trade 1 of Wright or Powell to make the salaries work. So if he does opt out he'll actually create you more space if you didn't want him here long term. Tho if you don't want him long term, why are you making the deal anyways? You don't care about the cap space if you do want him long term. He won't come free or he'd already have been dealt or we would have heard about him being shopped.

FWIW I'm interested in Blake... But I'm interested in Blake once I see how he is playing during the season. If he's healthy? I'm very interested in making a move for him. I'd assume that's why he isn't being moved yet. He can reestablish his value for Detroit and then they can deal him in season.

Zero chance Bogdan signs for the MLE.

Can't imagine we'd trade Green.

You could argue outside of Luka and KP he was the single most important player on the team.

I think trading him wouldn't be nearly as painful although I'm not looking to move up. But he has value so it should be on the table if it gets a deal done.

See, I don't see it that way. I get where you're coming from, but to me SBey would have accomplished this, not Richardson. I think Richardson is now the answer to Dame, Mitchell, Booker, Westbrook, and DFS is still George, Lebron, Kawhi, etc.

I think they complement each other, defensively, and aren't all that redundant.

I also think they're counting on DFS to provide even more of a shooting threat than they have in the past.

yes to this

It is exactly this and it is not that complex. Not even my idea, I saw one of the national writers explain

So you literally have to have 2 guys agree to go to a certain team or have their new team agree to a SNT. The Bucks have no asset to incentive those teams. And who wants to sign Robin Lopez for 3 years. Who is giving Connaughton any sort of sizable contract? It needs to be somewhere near 7 mill.

The highly complex is getting all the sides to agree to it and have it benefit them. If someone wants to sign any of Milwaukee's guys they don't need Milwaukee's help. And again Milwaukee can't incentivize anyone because they have nothing left.

And why not guarantee the deal of Illyasova (you had to if you were trading him anyways) and just make it easy on yourself and not worry about any of that? To change up the deal so it gets allowed. I think the league would see right thru that farce.

Maybe he does wind up in Milwaukee. But there is no sort of wink wink deal like some people have been suggesting.
And maybe the Mavs don't want to pay Bogdan. We don't know that they would even be interested.
(11-19-2020, 03:23 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: [ -> ]Well this is an assumption that Giannis is going to agree to sign his Supermax tomorrow. I suppose if he doesn't you still are holding out.

What I mean is that it's not about Giannis. If he doesn't sign, GREAT!!!! Game on!

But, look what just fell into their laps last night. I submit that flexibility helped create that opportunity, and that you still have a lot of flexibility after the deal, and that I don't think that's an accident.

If they're as high on Wood as some people are (I don't know that they are, but IF) then that's literally almost as good as getting Giannis - GO GET HIM.

But, I'm not ready to close that kind of door with Griffen. What if there's another Christian Wood type next year, that nobody sees coming, but he's on a team who doesn't want Griffen in return (most teams wouldn't). Good players on good contracts are easy to move, like we just saw. It is precisely the strategy of NOT overpaying anyone last year that put the team in the position to make that deal last night, imo.

SMART DEALS ONLY. THat's my take.
