Step 1...Ignore 2021 capspace
Step 2...MLE for Favors, Crowder or Millsap. Offer more than one year. They won´t sign a one year deal
Step 3...Trade Wright and Jackson for the best possible wing/guard. Pipe Dream OPJ. Maybe include future picks
Step 4...Keep the rest of the team together.

Step 5...Extend/Resign OPJ, Richardson and THJ
Step 6...Cuban pays luxury tax

Step 7 Finish the Dirk statue before Doncic wins his first championship

(11-19-2020, 03:23 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: [ -> ]Well this is an assumption that Giannis is going to agree to sign his Supermax tomorrow. I suppose if he doesn't you still are holding out.

What I mean is that it's not about Giannis. If he doesn't sign, GREAT!!!! Game on!

But, look what just fell into their laps last night. I submit that flexibility helped create that opportunity, and that you still have a lot of flexibility after the deal, and that I don't think that's an accident.

If they're as high on Wood as some people are (I don't know that they are, but IF) then that's literally almost as good as getting Giannis - GO GET HIM.

But, I'm not ready to close that kind of door with Griffen. What if there's another Christian Wood type next year, that nobody sees coming, but he's on a team who doesn't want Griffen in return (most teams wouldn't). Good players on good contracts are easy to move, like we just saw. It is precisely the strategy of NOT overpaying anyone last year that put the team in the position to make that deal last night, imo.

SMART DEALS ONLY. THat's my take.

And that is why I want to see what he looks like when playing again. If you are getting 2018 version of Blake it's a smart deal. He was an absolute beast. The upside is tremendous.

But again all indications are he isn't even being discussed anywhere so really not worth debating too much until that changes. I suspect it will in season fwiw.
Blake for THJ/Delon/JJ

Who says no?

Seems obvious it would be Detroit, but I'm not so sure. After last night, they seem to be in full fledged rebuild mode and aren't even pretending like they're a contender. They might just want Blake off the books. They drafted a 4 and a 5 with Top 20 picks, and might resign Woods.
Remind me how you get OPJ again? I didn't think we had enough for salary matching if THJ isn't included.

Dan's idea was a pipe dream that included a sign and trade of Courtney Lee's rights, so you probably can't.

But I'm on such a Mavericks high right now I'll drink any flavor of kool aid, tbh.

This. Stop trying to trade for old and injury-prone guys on max deals that cannot play defense.

75M for Blake over the next two years.  That's about a million dollars per game.  /rimshot
Be prepared KL!

Nothing would make me happier then to have your Rubio hopes replaced with someone you hate haha

Presti flips that into 47 future 1st round picks.

Should have added Powell in the trade idea to make the idea a real dilemma.

It doesn't have to torpedo the hopes. It doesn't have to BG. But if we make a trade, hopefully its a good one for the mavs but makes KL miserable. He deserves it for his Rubio takes!

Maybe.  Could I sell you on Blake Griffin 2.0 that the Mavs see in the vein of Matrix?

Good for him (genuinely), but that's because he doesn't care how good his team is for the next few years. It's easy to asset manage in that situation.

And I have no doubt he'll transform those picks into exciting, young talent. He has done that before. But, you know what he HASN'T done? The hard part - getting that talent across the finish line. What came of the Durrant/Westbrook/Harden core was unforgivable. Once in a lifetime for a franchise. They were able to keep NONE of them. Massive, massive team building failure.

Dallas is 2/3 of the way there. Every decision gets more and more important as you get closer to your goal. The way you waste Luka's career is by having lots of turnover from year to year (like Dirk's career, during which the team started over like 4 times before they won a ring, and then was utterly RUDDERLESS since the championship).

The goal is to reach championship contention while Luka and and KP are still in their 20's. There's time, but the second you make a move like Griffin, time gets tighter. If you're a Blake Griffin move away from WINNING, then f yeah. But I don't think they are, and I actually PREFER the fits of several younger, healthier options who are not on terrible deals. It's cool if we disagree on this, but anything to do with Griffin is a pass from me.

  1. Hayward was relegated to fourth on the team (among rotation players) in usage.Despite taking a step (or a few) back in terms of his role over the course of his current contract, Hayward had a quietly solid season in time for a potential free agency. He was top 40 in box plus/minus ("...a basketball box score-based metric that estimates a basketball player’s contribution to the team when that player is on the court," according to Basketball Reference) and averaged 18.9 points, 7.2 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.8 threes per 75 possessions, with a true shooting percentage three points above the league average.Luka Doncic, LeBron James, Kawhi Leonard and Karl-Anthony Towns were the only players in the league who matched those averages. KAT was the only one who did it with a higher true shooting percentage.
