KP doesn't get ejected, that much I know.
Yall can stay petty arguing over each other if Giannis is coming while I'm focused on the real prize of next summer.

Then the Mavs can follow it up with a crafty trade

Run the best lineup of

Luka
KP
Tacko
Boban
Gobert

We win every game.

I disagree that they're going to trade THJ + Brunson for Hield or Bogi, but I do hope we go after Crowder with the dregs of our MLE...

The roster right now:

Luka-Brunson-Burke
Richardson-Burke-Terry-Green
THJ-DFS-Richardson
Maxi-Johnson-Powell
KP-Maxi-Boban
Now that’s a competitive and well rounded lineup that can compete now, even with the injuries to start, and still allows you to get better in l the future.

Best players still available?
Yeah, Crowder is a good example. I don't know if the rest of the MLE for 3 years is enough, but A) if the Mavs want him and B) that IS enough money then I don't think they'd scoff at the length of contract.

That's the difference. They're ALSO trying to be a competitive playoff team, not just a life support system for 87 year old Dirk while they wait to get rejected by next year's big free agents.

And BECAUSE of how GREAT luka and the team are becoming, the free agents (or trade targets) will WANT to play here.

Tell me overpaying Jerami Grant (who I like, tbh) and trading THJ/Tyler Bey for him is better than that, if you dare. I WILL FIGHT YOU.

Crowder... although cow thinks that the Kings will let us fleece them with THJ and Brunson for either Hield or Bogi.

Bogi, Hayward, Fred, IBlockA, Millsap, Baynes, Crowder

Crowder 3/21 if he takes it. If not then I’m fine with Baynes and that’s it

Not 1, Not 2, Not 3, Not 4....
(11-21-2020, 02:36 AM)KillerLeft Wrote: [ -> ]I can't speak for anyone else, but I like this approach, and not getting Giannis won't make me question it in hindsight one bit.

What I'm sick of is watching Dirk's teams not be built properly to win and then going into every off season with the slim hope of turning old, overpaid player X into old overpaid player Z via trade. The trade is unlikely, and if successful, is probably not what you need, anyway. Dirk's entire career was like that. It SUCKED, and they only got one championship out of it. Dirk deserved so much more for what he gave this city, as did we, the fans.

I like OPTIONS. This off-season was the most asset poor I expect them to be for quite some time, thanks to the KP trade, and the fact that they found Luka a little too fast, and then the team got good a little too fast. Usually, a team in the mavs' position would have a few more busted lottery picks like DSJ laying around waiting to be dangled as assets.

But even in THIS situation, look at what Donnie pulled off! 3 really interesting rookies, 3 new usable players (that will address weakness of the team in a real, tangible way) and possibly more to come. And, they got off of one of their few recent mistakes??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

I full on expected something like #18 going out in a Gallo sign and trade - that was my expectation level coming in. Would you have preferred that? OMG, this is so, so, so much better, imo.

I promise that if you all (mostly @"DanSchwartzman") stop saying "plan powder" you'll feel way better about it. This isn't the same as that. They have Luka and KP. Hell, just say they have Luka. That gives them DIRECTION. Every decision is informed by that, and so far they're making dope decisions.

Yeah you can hate last year's approach but love what they did this year
I'd actually be more mad at this point if they were adding on a weird amount of future money that would kill 2021 capspace. To angle for the capspace and also improve the team was the goal and we did that
Now just use the rest of the MLE on a one year deal for a rotation player and we're good to go

Jesus Christ get over yourself.

This is NOT the same ok’d Mavs doing the same old things.

If it was we’d have a bunch of 30+ year olds vets on 1 year deals just trying to get to the next season and stay competitive

Ask yourself this. Are they better today than they were when the playoffs ended.  If you’re saying anything other than YES you’re blind and obviously biased.

There were no splashy moves to be made that were smart and worth it based on the contracts given.

And if you say Trez for the MLE, you’re still wrong because he wasn’t taking that in Dallas. He went to the Lakers and took way less on purpose.

That’s what Dallas will start happening for them when Luka wins the MVP and they go deep in the playoffs.

You’ve been a massive beating complaint about years past.

They are not operating that way again.

No one thinks Giannis is realistically coming my dude.
This. It’s a dream. Not as much as Lebron or something but still a dream. They aren’t doing all this JUST for Giannis but also for other guys that will be available.

So we are clearing max capspace for Gobert?
Jesus you can’t even help you self from being a horrible douche bag. It’s for whoever is available that helps next offseason. Or at the trade deadline.

What you aren't getting is not getting Giannis doesn't make anything they have done in draft/trade/FA this week incorrect.
All of this. Even if Giannis or Beal never happens they have made themselves much more enticing and have the ability to make moves next year to finally make them contenders.

they don’t have those moves to make this year.

The funny thing is that you guys are saying it is not plan powder but than you go on to explain why it is plan powder. Only difference is that Luka is younger and potentially has more upside than Dirk. I am not willing to bet that it is enough to make a difference. It´s not like guys are begging to play for the Mavs.

Then you go on to explain that it isn´t about Giannis. Fine. We all know the names of the 2021 free agency class and we don´t know what will happen. We certainly won´t have the assets to make another big trade. No draft picks left. In this case good signings this offseason would have more value than any expiring. See...Curry on his value contract actually being enough to net Richardson and Bey.
The question in this case is if you trust your ability to make those signings. It´s seems like that´s not the case for the Mavs. They prefer to take the risk free approach of expiring deals.

If you don´t want to call it plan powder we can find a different name. I think Dan called it plan "have it both ways". Or maybe "powder 2.0 now it is working because Luka is awesome".

In the end it is about different concepts of roster building. Personally I prefer the OKC or Celtics way. Not the Cuban, Balmer always go for the big splash approach.

Crowder, Milsap, Bogdon are top 3 for sure. Hayward is still available but I doubt he's available to the Mavs at his price. Ibaka is still there. Same with Demarcus Cousins as an outsider.

We can be friends again.
Killer Left is spot on. We are ran just like the Heat and Raptors(two of the best). And there’s literally people complaining? We are the envy of most other clubs with what our roster construction looks like

I’m chalking it up to cowboys fans who are used to a trash organization making mistakes constantly

Forgive me Aron Baynes is still out there too. Milsap love got in my way from remembering him
