Wood and Jones Jr the only i see that fit the bill for being young additions for the MLE. It sure does seem there’s a youth effort after last night

I'm really curious the contract he'll get. I love his age and athleticism. Full MLE get'er done?
So, that's the thing. Some people see him as an MLE guy...others say he's about to get $24 million per, and will be a future all-star. And I'm not talking about fans, but the kind of people we listen to.
If I'm working a sign and trade, that's the guy I want, probably. But, there's some potential for post contract Larry Sanders.

24m a year for this contract? No thanks, not based on that sample size.
He does look like he'd immediately obsolete Powell role on the team. Still not sure I'd be comfortable giving any more than the MLE.

Yeah, I'm dubious about that, too. But, like I said, there are all types of different predictions about it. Like some people think he's Detroit's best player and they're about to give him the bag as a franchise cornerstone. In fact, pretty much anyone who has heard of him thinks that. But, he was only the featured guy there for like the last 30 games of the season and Detroit sucked, so he is very much flying under the radar. If Detroit doesn't want to pay him, I can almost see his cost plummeting. Then again, maybe Charlotte or ATL have other ideas.

Totally. The best case scenario is almost as good as Giannis. Same role, minus quite a bit of ball-handling, but he does have a high post iso game. And the best part, the part that's really intriguing, is the shooting. So, he can play with BOTH KP types (in the Powell role) and Powell types (in the KP role).
It's intriguing. Not sure it's possible to get him though.

I couldn't tell if the original post was joking or not... But I'm glad someone pointed this out.

I'd ask for you to put on your GM thinking cap and throw out a number and contract length. My randomness would be:
-Detroit is hurting for money. They are starved for talent. Why aren't the just resigning him?
-Not to harp on it but the sample size is scary. Not that the skill set is comparable but I'm sure Andray Blatche had 30 game stretches where he looked all world.
-29% 3PT shooting before his 39% breakout campaign last year
-Will he regress once he gets paid?
KOC thinks 9-19M per. Can't really defend bigs at this point.

Yeah, all of that is pretty much my point. Larry Sanders.
I was just giving you the cliff's notes on his situation since you were asking. I don't disagree with your take at all.
At the MLE I'm IN. I doubt that's the situation, so that doesn't help.
My gut says Detroit will be interested enough to offer him a hefty bag, so he's probably not an easy sign and trade guy even if you think he's worth the money. But, if it was possible, I think the youth and potential (imminent potential, not 3 years down the road) would entice me. I'm not sure what I'd pay, but I'm interested to see the the deal he gets.
I'm really high on grant, and I think I'd pay more for him than Grant, if that helps.
Follow up: to me, the risk with Wood is almost the LENGTH of the contract, not the amount. If he continues on with the roll he was on to close out last year, he's basically a max player.
I just wouldn't want to get stuck holding the bag if he's Larry Sanders or Ian Mahinmi.

I loved Larry Sanders, he was a beast in his brief prime. I also cheered like hell for him to make a come back, mental health issues suck.

This hurts to read. But also understandable. Portland paid a ransom for RoCo. He isn't worth that, no matter how good his fit was.
I think Richardson brings 90% of what RoCo brings, AND we got a pick with him too.

On offense they are pretty similar but Richardson is the better ballhandler and playmaker. On defense Richardson is more of an on ball defender that can guard the best opposing scorer. RoCo is even more valuable. He plays a role that is similar to Adebayos in Miami or Draymonds with the Warriors. He is a good (not great on ball defender) but he can anchor the defense. He switches 1-5, protects the rim (averaged more than 2blks for the Rockets) and overall probably is the best help defender in the league.
Back to trade options. Who says no?
Wright + Jackson + 2 2nds --> Bogdan
Sign and trade. Bogdan gets 4/60. Would easily beat the Bucks offer.
Powell + future 1st --> Tucker + McLemore
I know that this is more of a pipe dream because the Mavs love Powell but giving up a 1st to get rid of his bad contract makes a lot of sense. Especially if they could get two rotation players in return. Houstons is rebuilding. So far no team is willing to give up a 1st for Tucker. Might be worth it for them.

Hard to get into bidding wars without a 2021 1st. Everyone thinks next year's draft class is loaded, so those picks are valued at a premium.
(11-19-2020, 11:12 PM)cjeter24 Wrote: [ -> ]Would you do THJ+? for Aldridge?
I guess we're in the minority. If the Spurs wanted to gift me Aldridge for the expiring of THJ+Brunson, then I'd personally send a gift to Pop. Aldridge was still an effective big last year. He's going to be 35, but he still managed to average almost 20ppg as a solid 2nd option. He'd be asked to either come off the bench and lead the offensive unit then or play a 3rd option (sometimes 4th), in limited minutes starting next to KP. Are you telling me that isn't the perfect role for Aldridge? He's also fantastic KP insurance.
if we trade Wright+Jackson+Future pick for Bogdon, then flip and nab a solid vet, the Mavs field a loaded roster.
Luka/Terry/JJ
Bogdon/Green/Lee
JRich/
DFS/Aldridge/Bey
KP/Maxi/Powell/Boban
That's such a fantastic mix of defense, shooting, size, playmaking, and small ball.
Aldridge is a full time 5 in the modern NBA. I wouldn´t give up anything for him but if the Spurs are willing to give him away for free (THJ+Wright) that´s obviously a yes from the Mavs. He can start in the first few weeks and when KP is back he moves to bench.
That said. The Spurs will ask for picks and that´s just not worth it.
