Mavs do a SnT for Gallo (OKC loves playing multi guard lineups)

Bogdan signs with Atlanta.

Hayward signs a crazy contract with the Knicks.

Ill change my mind in half an hour.
As great an offensive fit as Gallo would be, i don’t want him because you couldn’t play him in the playoffs. Too weak defensively for what his price will be

Yeah, I don't think that's going to bother the Mavs too much.   The Heat reportedly want Gallo too.   It's good company to be in.
I think Bogi is a better player than THJ and I think THJ is close to worth his contract, so yes, I think 4 years $18M per is pretty good.

Yeah that is my gut as well. I love Bog, but not seeing it at the moment. Happy to proven wrong!

Hayward's bigger. Don't want him. Gallo's bigger. Can't play defense. The only "bigger" targets I would consider in lieu of Bogi (if we have a shot at him) would be Wood or OPJ. Or of course Jerami Grant, but we aren't getting him.
I definitely do NOT see a scenario wherein BOTH Bogdanovic and THJ are on the roster when camp starts. I'll stick my neck out that far, at least.

Not only do I not see them trying Hardaway on the bench again, but honestly, this would kind of seem to be the final move in the "cap space 2021" plan, so if THJ's losing his job to this guy, I think he's gone.
Bogdan signing with Atlanta just makes sense. This is one of those classic cases where a bad Eastern Conference team that hasn't made the playoffs in forever feels like they have to make a splash in free agency and overpay a pretty good but not great player about 3 levels above his actual pay grade slot. See Nic Batum and Charlotte. See Fornier and Orlando.

That's the spirit!
So they trade for Bogi and then another trade moving THJ out for another need?

I would definitely guess they're looking at 4's, 5's or people they think can play both. Starting 4 is really the closest thing you could call a hole, imo. Whether you have Kleber or DFS there (everyone expects something different), either way it's someone not paid as a starter and who would instantly be even more valuable as a bench piece.

Also, they HAVE to be at least a little worried about the first month of this season. Someone to start at the 5 along with one of those guys who could also exist well with KP when he gets healthy really would be the next logical step.

Then, use the MLE to try to fill whatever hole you create via the outgoing pieces of the trade - bench wing, backup PG, another big, whatever. The MLE can go a lot farther for a bench piece than it can for a starter.
Absolutely no way I pay Bogdan $18m a year. Did everyone not watch the 3 games he played against the Mavs last year? He was absolute trash in all 3 games. He scored 19 points total and was like 6 for 35 in 71 minutes on the floor. We have a guy very much like him only not Serbian. His name is Tim, and he is already grossly overpaid. We don’t need 2. You’re basically throwing $40m at one spot for 2 average guys that are rarely a difference maker. If you can turn Hardaway into a true #3 guy....go for it. Until then, strong pass.
I think one thing people don't really think about is this team is really offensively constructed around the idea that they will have one stretch big who clears out the paint for Luka and provides spacing for everyone else, and they currently only have one of those guys on the roster with that skillset and he's a constant injury concern.

For me on Bog at the very core level it comes down to Bog at a reasonable contract is a much better asset than Brunson, Wright, Jackson trio.

It's a big time talent upgrade. And if Bog skills are what I think he'll take a nice jump up.

Hardaway may be the same level of player... But he's also an asset that's expiring. You can use him elsewhere. I think you can have THJ off the bench possibly. But if not... Yeah he's got to go. But that's a trade piece to upgrade the team now.

TLDR: Acquiring Bog at a reasonable cost + trading THJ at some point is going to make the team better and higher talent/asset levels.

Did the quick ESPN check on Collins... what am I missing here? Why wouldn't they want to keep him?

Bad defensive five, but has to play the 5 on offense.  Kinda like Julius Randle tweener t ype.   One of those guys who is probably a shade below max caliber, but is going to want/expect the max.   Hawks may want him on a more team friendly deal.  The Hawks are also reportedly hot after Gallo, so that's another front court guy that could get thrown into the mix.
 Is he, does he?

His career RTG/per 100 possession is plus 9, with a top defensive mark in his rookie season. That´s borderline outstanding for a 22 year old on a consistent losing team.

I wonder what could have caused his defensive regression. Any particular events happen in Atlanta in the last two years? Wink

I think it´s insane that he´s even on the market, same with WCJ. They can´t win on their own. They are obviously not franchise players, but they are starters on a winning team imho. Since we have the franchise guy(s) already, they´d make great targets.

John Collins?  He is a good defender.  IF he were available, he'd be amazing.  Not sure what Atl is up to, but he would be the one player I would want more than any other on that team.  Good defender, can stretch the floor, an amazing finisher at the rim.  He would be perfect here at the 4.  But that is never going to happen.  He is better than any (non-future FA) that we have discussed up to now.  I think I would rather add him over Beal.  Not even kidding.

Yeah, don't get me wrong .. I love shooting and always want to bring in more shooting .... but it's really amazing how the 3rd or 4th best player on the Sacramento Kings team that couldn't make the playoffs has now become a potential franchise cornerstone player for a team that wants to compete for a title.

Yeah, ultimately, my guess is that the Mavericks would rather have Richardson and THJ's very modest cap holds as a starting point next year rather than Bogdanovic. But, there's no way to know for sure.

Did you see Hardaway 2 years ago on the Knicks. Players on bad teams tend to play much better on good teams.

First you’re wrong about Tim.  He’s not overpaid. He’s actually been pretty darn good for them.

And I think it’s pretty obvious they wouldn’t keep Tim in Thai scenario.

Also Delon showed out against the Mavs several time 2 years ago He wasn’t good.  Not sure I’d take a couple games against the Mavs as evidence that he’s not good.  Advance stats would say otherwise.

Definitely a name that's available, since it doesn't seem like he's going to GSW, after all.

I don't know if I lapped up too much Mavs flavored DRANK last night, or what, but I'm now pretty convinced that they're not looking at the old, crusty vets this time around. I know it's against type, but for them to not only keep the picks (so far) but pull freaking Josh Richardson of all people out of the trade bag...idk, I just feel like they did an internal poll and made a decision to add more young guys to the nucleus.

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't expect anyone older than Gallo, who I believe who be the oldest rotation player here BY FAR, and part of me really believes they're trying to land a young guy like Wood or Grant. I don't know if they'll be successful, but it would fit with what they've done so far. Who on this team is Milsap or Aldridge even going to talk to, BAREA? He's going to be speaking spanish...you know, with the eastern europeans.
Me : "Mavs got some good players yesterday"

Wife : "Did they get rid of Dwight Powell?"

I'm so proud!
