Which two players would you sign away for Gasol? 5 mil (or whatever is left) of the MLE is more than enough for him. He is washed

KP + Luka should get it done.  :p

Seems like everyone is competing for Gasol now, and when he signs, the focus will move onto Baynes, then the next, etc.

Yeah I see WCS as someone who'd be perfectly just sitting on the bench for 2 months straight and then having that gear to look like a competent starter for a round or 2 in the playoffs

No, it doesn't.

Gasol is 100 years old, having to sign for less than he would make overseas. The motivation for him is to win a title, obviously. Our Spanish speaking superstar is 21, and the Mavericks are not in the NBA's top 4. They will not win a title this season. They are trying to make it to the 2nd round. Big, big difference.

Ok. So now that I've read that. I'd go to the Wiz and give whatever they wanted for Beal not named Luka or KP.

New pipedream boys!
(11-22-2020, 02:48 PM)wisco Wrote: [ -> ]Just thought about Euro/International players. Dallas has pulled some out of their hat in free agency in the past: Mejri, Kleber, Broekhoff.

Is there an international 4/5 which might be interested in playing in the NBA?
Yes. I can think of 2. Thon Maker, Zhou Qi. Zhou Qi wasn’t that bad when he played for the Rockets. He blocked shots, hit some 3s.

I think what you're missing is that the Mavs were a finalist. They were there. Gasol wants money AND the most immediate chance to win a title. Toronto can give him the money part. Lakers can give him the title part given that they just won.

Im surprised Gasol is even considering the Lakers. He didn't strike me as a guy who would ring chase.

Yeah, I just think he's great insurance for Powell. He can play that Powell role in a reduced, non-starter way if/when Powell doesn't work out.

Man, I'll say this: if the Mavs don't get another center, it seems really clear that THEY believe Powell is still going to be a good player this year.

Look at what Jrue went for.  We don't have the ammo for Beal and frankly, I'm not sure he'd be worth what you'd have to give up.

If you want a scoring wing, Buddy Love or LaVine should be the targets at this point.

Lillard is still high on my pipedream list
The Blazers may be panicking soon since we're not getting that huge capspace spike

If you just need a big, the trade can be 1-1 and resign Barea (we have 14 spots taken without Barea now). The speculation was there is a trade for another spot and then we sign vet-min big. In this case you need 2-1 trade
True. Turns out counting to 15 ain´t that easy afterall. Big Grin

Though I think 2 for 1 (3 for 2) is still more likely, since I doubt they want to weaken the backcourt by trading away THJ solo.

After that it´s hard to see a desirable 1 for 1 deal involving Powell or Johnson. Therefore Brunson would have to used as a dealmaker (even if the Johnson transaction is broken up in two separate deals).

The pipedream would be Johnson for Lavine, then Brunson + Boban + future 1st for Felicio.

Lakers can't offer him much more than vet min. They are hard capped

They are all-in this year and maybe the next depending on the outcome. I'll piggyback off your pipe dream and add CJ to the list.

I'm pretty surprised by their lack of activity this time, but I'm happy about it. I think it says a lot about how the league sees DeRozan. You kind of have to be Jimmy Butler level good to play that way anymore, I think.
This board is insanely obsessed with pairing KP with a traditional center. Whether it's Vucevic last year or Adams years Gobert this board loves this idea.

I am telling you it isn't going to happen, period. That ship has sailed. Mavs are looking for a center. That center would back up KP, not play with KP.

Mavs thought Powell would be the perfect fit next to KP. They tried giving him an outside shot to make it work. KP was lost on offense to start the year. He basically was relegated to a spacer.

Once Powell was hurt you saw him unleashed bc he could do pick and roll, or anything he wanted to do on offense. Like Powell the Mavs want a big next to KP who can defend the perimeter and allow KP to occupy the paint on defense. Gobert or Adams or any other type of traditional big is not going to do that.

Therefore a Maxi, Johnson, DFS type will be the guy next to KP. That's just the way its going to be. I still contend that Maxi is the best fit next to KP in the starting lineup for most match ups so I hope Mavs get there eventually.

All that to say Mavs are not going to do this twin towers deal ever. Even Myles Turner is not the best fit. Think Aminu, Maxi, Tucker, big wing types that can play small ball center but also guard the perimeter. That's what the Mavs want.

As Dan pointed out, Johnson is not a Mav yet, so the existing deal sending Wright+Jackson out can be just expanded with Chicago. No need for two deals
I really doubt the Mavs are trading away Johnson in any deal.

I think its much more likely they try to package 2 of THJ/Brunson/Powell/DFS/Maxi and try to upgrade the starting SG spot, and then sign a center.

I figured it'd be Bogdon. Perhaps its more likely Buddy/Lavine. In any case they probably keep Johnson though.
Dang that was rough from Shams, he just had to go there lol. But I can’t say I’m surprised, we have seen dozens of Mavs-targeted FAs decide like that over the years. That’s why I will never buy into the Giannis-stuff. Dallas just is not a AAA destination for FAs with teams/cities like LA/Miami/San Francisco.

Ah there it is. Mavs are done. Shocked they went for WCS instead of Aron Baynes.
