More and more I’m starting to think Mavs are still trying to pull off another big move.

After what Carlisle said and the depth at the swing positions makes me feel like no player is off limits in a trade right now. (Except Luka oc)

In the situation we're talking about, I don't see why he can't do both.

Well, define "can't"...we'd have to ask Carlisle, and my guess is that it would depend on the answer to my post above.

(11-22-2020, 01:35 AM)cjeter24 Wrote: [ -> ]And thus the argument for team flexibility.

My biggest argument for Bogdon is that if a guy like George pops up now we don't have a good centerpiece for very good player plus assets to make a deal. I strongly believe Bogdon's #s take a nice jump up here with the talent around him, plus a system that caters to guards that can shoot and run the PNR/general playmaking skills.

If we were to sign Bogdan I'd be willing to bet he's scoring 20ppg efficiently the first 2months of the year. I'm that confident in the offensive fit. Now imagine flipping that into George or someone else with the other assets we have.

Hey man, you might be 100% right about all of that. I choose not to get bent out of shape about situations like that because we aren't in position to know A) whether the Mavs would even want him in any type of plan or B) whether he wants to play here.

I said this in another conversation, but for all we know, he's trying to BE a team's Luka. (primary ball-handler, not necessarily superstar) There's just no way for us to know.

For sure.. I'm not going to be up in arms about it because it's not based on anything he's actually done yet. So nobody knows. They thought Wright could do good here too but he just didn't do well without the ball in his hands as hoped. When going after those guys it's a projection of your system can unlock their skills with your coaching. It's always going to be hit or miss.

With a guy like Bog, I sincerely hope he gets out of Sac and lands in a good spot for himself to show his capabilities.

Well, bonafide insider NBASupes has been saying he's available for a while now (lol, sorry @"cjeter24", couldn't resist trolling you)...but seriously, that's a great example. Would ANYONE here be shocked if he got moved at the deadline, or was available next summer?

And there will be others. There are always unforeseen opportunities that pop up in this league.

There was a summary of his predictions somewhere a week ago. Anyone knows where it is? I wonder if his predictions were true or not.

They were not, lol. But to be fair, they weren't predictions, just what he was being told the Hawks were trying to accomplish. Most of that seems to have checked out, actually, but they didn't get much of it done.

BTW, speaking of interesting potential, has anyone heard anything at all about Brandon Ingram? Isn't he free right now? Or, is he just up for extension?
I had a sick thought about Powell + THJ for Kevin Love.

I doubt KP is in any conversation.

I think Fif is the one who defined that in his post.
Knicks should’ve offered Ingram a max at 5:01. They have no plan it seems

+Cuban and Love have a relationship.
+Love isn't all that different than Gallo, just a lot more expensive.
+Fills a position of need and is decent KP insurance.

I just have a feeling we aren't done this year and I was mostly just trying to think of who's out there and who we could be trying to acquire.  That feeling will probably go away once Bogi signs. I could totally see this happening next year if the Mavs strike out with the 2021 free agency class.

Kevin love is the type of player you target when you’re over the cap and want to move a bad contract. Not right now

I'm not advocating it, not in the slightest.
Not a fan in the slightest of trading for Paul George. A 1 yr rental maybe. And losing all your role players/assets in the process. Clippers take it (if they are indeed shopping him for a while) and are happy they don't lose him next year for free. Paul George as a free agent next year, sign me up. He is not a guy i break the bank for. Ever since he got injured, he hasn't shown me a level that i would trade for him. In some ways it might be a comparable case to Oladipo. Clippers are the "laughing stock" for what Presti got out of them after Playoff P arrived.

We should act as a team that can get something done in free agency. This isn't the old Mavs anymore with Dirk in his 30's. If the Clippers fell apart, it might very well be Paul George and Kawhi testing free agency next year. All off the sudden the Mavs looking like supreme destination with max cap available.

There is also the argument that Luka + KP + role players would be better than Luka + KP + Paul George + an empty roster. I take DFS, Kleber, maybe THJ/Richardson (that 3 man combo) + max cap next year over Paul George any day of the week.
Paul George was more of a random spitball by DLord.

By no means are there any rumors that the Clips are trying to trade him. And even if they were, there is no way they'd send him for a bunch of roleplayers.

What I'm more curious about is why DLord threw PG out there as a random trade idea, when there is a much more realistic (and available) player out there that arguably fits better culture and basketball wise in Bogdon.

They are if you wanna believe the ATL insider guy. They tried to trade him to Minny for Edwards and have been shopping him for a while.

Let me find some of those posts later.
ya. read about that. but the Clippers would only ship PG if they got back Chris Paul and the first overall pick.
Quote:Paul George might not be getting shopped but LAC has him up for trade if it can land them the #1 overall pick and Chris Paul or Al Horford. They even open talks on the #2 and #3 pick.
They are covering their bases but LAC has options. DeRozan is someone they are set to add and they are dropping Harrell. They want to keep Pat Bev but he is the one SAS would be interested in for a SnT of DeRozan and he has suitors interested as well around the league especially from Milwaukee who will drop some lightly protected future 1st to prove to Giannis they can win.
That's not stopping teams like Toronto, Dallas, Las Angeles Lakers and Golden State from trying to gain more assets to be attractive for Giannis FA 2021 or a SnT deal with Milwaukee.
Paul George is lightly on the market but considering the cost and the teams who appeal to Minnesota, it will be hard to see this deal going through. Atlanta is the only team who can likely take this risk and maybe it's too much too soon for these guys to handle. You know, real expectations.
Good job capstone21. Once again, Philadelphia is fairly confident they can land Paul but LAC can if they get creative with a deal like this where they can take on that salary in the CP3 and still have their full MLE to add a center. LAC has some plans and teams are realizing that LAC is not all in for anyone on their roster but Leonard who can opt out in 2021.
Quote:Let's talk about PG13, Kawhi and LA situation. I don't have all of the specifics but here's what I do know from reaching out across the board in the last couple of months on that situation.

1. Kawhi has rubbed a number of his teammates the wrong way. Many questioning his work ethic and reliability. This is not new. This happened in San Antonio, Toronto, and now LA. That said, everyone RESPECTS Leonard. When it matters, he always there and shows up.
2. PG13 has been having issues with teammates going back to Indy. Many think he thinks he's better than what he really is. He's not consistent. He gets too many nicks and while teammates thinks he works hard, they don't see him as a 1A or 2B. They see him as an extremely gifted 2C. That said, many saw Jimmy Butler like this as well and just look when he finally ended up in the perfect situation. PG13 doesn't have the respect of his locker room and hasn't for awhile. Even teams noted, they got better when he gets traded. That said, he's gotten traded for some excellent packages. It's not like he's been traded for potato salad.
3. Both Kawhi and PG13 have asked for a star PG in particular, Chris Paul. The issue is, CP3 salary makes it extremely difficult and it will gut their roster as their assets was gutted by the same team a season earlier. Also, doesn't OKC want that package. The good in the matter is CP3 wants to go to a contender and OKC have granted CP3 that they won't get in the way if they are reasonably compensated. They are also said to be looking at LaMelo Ball and James Wiseman in a larger role than you would normally see for a team without a lottery much less 1st round pick. While LAC has trade capital, there players outside of the two stars, aren't exactly going to bring you back a great deal in return. This is what's going on behind the scenes.
4. Teammates want to run it back but many of said PG is the one that can be moved to get the squad more. Most know trades will be made but most want to stay. As much as Leonard has a part in their lack of chemistry, they don't think he's not added value. This isn't unsual either, Russ Westbrook who is extremely optimistic always thinks his teams have a chance for the title actually went to OKC brass and said this team has reached it's peak with PG. He is always too optimistic and when he said that, that's a red flag. Indy teammates felt like Oladipo and Sabonis was a clear upgrade. Like I am saying, there is red flags around PG. No one is saying it but I don't exactly think Kawhi believes in PG like that either. Obviously no one will because that will kill his trade value
5. For ANY team that trades for him, buyer beware. Facts are: Hard worker, smart guy, tremendous talent, elite shooting stroke, elite rhythm guy, and a smart and heady defensive player with tremendous tools but doesn't make the best decisions, can't really create for himself when it matters, inconsistent, isn't easy to work with for teammates, and has some communication issues which has been stated by former players on Indy, OKC, and now LAC. Kawhi offers issues as well but everyone knows when he plays, what to expect and they know you can win with him.

So while I don't have all of the specifics, I know this much which is why Paul George being available for this type of package is understandable to me regardless of anything else.
More than anything, I would think LA is offering this to MIN because well, PG13 is an UFA next year and they don't want to lose him and Kawhi for nothing but more importantly they don't want to lose Kawhi AT ALL.
I just feel that with the kind of personnel that the Mavs got this offseason we would a dramatic shift in our defensive philosophy. Probably endless hounding, full court press, multiple substitutions all game long. Scouting reports of Josh Richardson and Wesley Iwundu indicate that they cannot only defend but also playmake. They were point forwards with their college teams.

That same ATL insider that predicted nothing? Yeah no I'm not going to believe that. He's the same dude who had some ludicrous 5 team 20 player trade that made zero sense.
Atl guy is just some dumb fan talking out of his rear. He said teams were trying to do things that just weren’t possible like the Spurs sign and trading derozan

I mean, there was a report a bit ago about there being a 7 team trade at one point
