Tough to tank when playing the Pels

Let's get the band back together again.  Sign DSJ, Yogi  and Parsons.  Trade for DAJ and Barnes.

With Bullock and Brown not packing their shooting skills when the reported to DAL, maybe using Green and/or Frank as a disruptor would help get things going.

I'm willing to take a look at almost anything that stirs the pot right now.

The most funny stat is that the Mavs have the best offense and the best defense in the league the moment Josh Green is on the floor.

Are you not entertained Kidd? Big Grin

I think Mavs should took way better care of the few assets they have. This includes playing Green. If they are ok sacrificing a few wins by playing KP with another center, they should also be ok sacrificing a bit for developmental minutes. It is not that Brown/Burke were so great that Green could be much worse. At least on defense he proved last season, that he can contribute.
I don't see why Green isn't playing. His IQ is better than most of the team, he plays with intensity with pretty good defense.

And don't tell me it's because he isn't making shots nor taking a lot of shots. Reggie and Sterling do not too. His defense is also better than those 2.

I know Green is the type of player who is unselfish to a fault, but he needs to put some me-first in him, even just a little bit or else he will be out of the league. Can't be timid when you want to keep your job in the NBA.
I think Burke has been pretty good in his limited appearances.   Maybe not Bubble Burke but much better than 2020 Burke.

If the Mavs somehow wind up with Goran this year, I could see another team interested in Burke, don't you think?  We would not get anything back of value, but wouldn't need to eat his salary by cutting him.   Although reading the tea leaves, Moses may be the one who goes and not Burke.   Although maybe Burke could have more value this offseason.   I mean, you are never going to get value for him but with his play now he shouldn't be viewed as a bad contract.

It will also be interesting to see if Burke steals any minutes from Frank when he returns.   Frank seemed to filling into an every game role, but Burke has put up some solid stretches as well.
Ah man...Kemba and Wall?  Really?  Why not just go to the basketball graveyard and sign a couple of zombies.  They're fried!  There's got to be a hundred better choices.

We've also been talking for 14 years (or so) about getting Goran Dragic.  What the hell!  I actually would like to have Dragic.  But can we afford to keep waiting for him?  I think there were several opportunities to get him, but the MBT wiffed on it.  Trade deadline coming up?  We'll see...again.

Green?  Yes.  He needs to get some burn.  DFS and Maxi were projects to start.  They developed pretty good.  I think Green will too.

Omoruyi?  Oh yes!  Same as Green.  I think Omo is going to be a player.  Might as well be for the Mavs.

Moses Brown?  ...is a project for sure.  But he moves very well for a man so tall.  Just that factor should give him some real consideration.

Trey Burke...is a valuable 1 and 2 point/shooting guard off the bench.  But he has to be played and/or made to feel that he is an important part of the puzzle for the Mavs.  Otherwise he tends to get discouraged and lets down.

Haa...since I'm a motor mouth today I might as well go all the way.

KP has been playing well lately, now he has a sprained ankle.  KP is a great player when healthy.  But I think he wants to be the focus of the offense.  IF he comes back from this ankle sprain and continues to play good...let's trade him!...while he is healthy and the price is high(er).  He's a great player...but he's going to get hurt again.  I don't blame him for that.  It's just the way it is.  Look at Dirk;  tall, rangy, strong as hell, great bones.  If KP was like that...well alright!  But he's not.

JB is a great player.  Similar to Burke, but better.  I think he will want to have a larger role on a team...and MUCH more money.  At some point I think we'll have to trade him for more than a bag of potato chips.  The MBT hasn't had a good history of getting the most value from outgoing players.  They should start with KP and JB.

Gotta go to work.  The wife is kicking me out of the house...
Guys....Josh Green is a bad basketball player.  He should be in Frisco all season.

I like his last two appearances in that he's been aggressive looking for his shot.  Granted, they've been in lopsided affairs so who knows if he'll get timid again if he's running with the first or second unit but he needs to play with the urgency of his career being on the line.
Question for the cap guys. Since Maxi is an expiring contract, could we re-sign him in the off-season if he gets traded before the deadline?

Maxi is not expiring. His last season is not guaranteed but I think it is very likely Mavs would guarantee his last year.

DFS for example will be a FA. In theory Mavs could trade him and then resign him, but they would lose his bird rights. This means they would either have to have cap space or sign him with one of the extensions.

Gotcha. I thought Maxi was expiring. Appreciate the clarity.
I think we're falling for fools gold here.

Green isn't a good player. At least not right now. Scoring 4 points in garbage time against one of the worst teams in the league that had their own 3rd stringers out there isn't anything to write home about.

I admit I do wonder if Green could take some of S.Brown's minutes, but after seeing time and again how Green straight up disappears on the offensive side of the court, I can't say that he's ready to play any meaningful minutes. That is unless we want to lose on purpose.

I will say the potential is there. Green has all the athleticism and flash to be a solid 6-7th guy. If he can just develop a 3pt shot then he'll make a lot of money in this league.

I would say that he's always been pretty aggressive with his movements on the course and I'm not going to deny he's a high level defender...but he has essentially zero offensive basketball skills and has not shown any improvement there.

Him looking for his shot is good and all but the guy just is simply not getting better at BASKETBALL stuff.  Even when he goes to Frisco we hear about Moses blowing up, not Green.

Happy to eat crow on this down the road but it just looks like another whiff on a late first round draft pick.  Feels like we haven't hit on a late first since like....2009 (IFYKYK).

I'm mostly with you but credit were credit is due.  He's gotten up shots in the last two games.  That doesn't really change my view on him but if I were him, I'd definetly be World B. Free out there.

Taking out the perfect 2018 draft, the last good pick the Mavs made must've been Jae Crowder in 2012. Sure he didn't truly blossom until he left RC, but the talent was there. Much more than Josh Green ever showed.

Jae was in the second round though.

Feels like all our late firsts just turn out to be kind of worthless and then we somehow hit later (Jae, Brunson).

Too many whiffs on guys like Maurice Ager, Simba, Jared Cunninham (wonder what happened to him...) and the next DWade....DOJO.
