KP for Avdija+Kuzma+KCP+1st. For sure a rich deal for the Wizards, but if they are desperate for a star to convince Beal to stay then the Mavs set the price, not the Wizards.

I will say though the Mavs reported continued interest in Turner might give us a view in how they see KP. I don't see both of those guys playing together. Perhaps Nico is secretly shopping KP.

I still like your proposed 3-team trade with SAC and ATL where the Mavs send KP to SAC, Barnes to ATL, and Collins+Holmes to DAL.

Yeah, the SAC/ATL stuff is by far my favorite also.

Could you take the Wash pick and some of the non-Avdija stuff and send it to Indy for Turner?  Something that ends up with Avdija and Turner (even if we have to eat Bertans) starts to get me much more interested.

It could be as simple as Kuzma and a pick for Turner, but instead of Turner going to Washington (where Gafford plays that role), he comes here with Avdija, Washington gets KP and someone small and we eat the Bertans deal.  Turner/Avdija isn't Collins/Holmes, but it isn't bad either.

Edit:  I realize Washington has been linked to Sabonis, but I just don't think they have the juice to get that done.  KP becomes the fall-back position.

I would be more than happy to turn KP into Collins, let alone Collins + Holmes.

I am affraid Avdija doesn't learn how to shoot. I don't think there is much place for non shooting wings in the modern game.

Hm, that was whole focus of my though excersice. Is he really that? Defense is not any worse when he is not playing and he can't really create for himself on offense. Not to mention the huge injury concerns and risks. I seriously doubt anyone could be convinced he is worth his contract. I do think his abscence is a little strange at this time.

I wasn't dumping him for nothing, I was trying to increase flexibility going forward. Perhaps we could also get a protected FRP from it. Of course the deal makes it possible to be expanded to three team deal, but I didn't want to complicate too much. All the pieces are also possible to be moved on draft night, where more assets would be available for Mavs. Point was - this new contracts (Bertans exception) will be easier to move than KP.
CJ trade can be used as an example how to gain flexibility to retool quickly. I think his value is about the same as KP, so the Washington idea does seem light as we are eating bad salaries.

He plays dramatically better D than Rui and has secondary creator skills.  He’s still very young.  Time for the shot to come around.

I agree that KP probably has similar value but if you think what the Blazers is doing is retooling quickly...

Sounds like a recent draft pick on the Mavs Smile I think there are plenty of examples where shot didn't come around.

I am more a Rui guy, as Mavs2021 I really liked him internationally. He also fills position of need, Avdija not so much.

Do we not find it weird that Rui basically disappeared for the first 3 months of the season without telling his team anything and then just randomly showed up?

No reason was given, other than it was a personal issue. It must've been serious. Still it came as a surprise to the Wizards when he didn't report to training camp.

I doubt it was like that. Below a quick piece, I didn't research too much. I am operating under assumption he is fine, FO for sure knows much more.

Do the Mavs need another PF that cannot really play any other position? Rui is not a rim protector. Also not a good perimeter defender. At best he is an okay shooter. Basically Dwight Powell with more upside and as of now worse defense.
Avdija is the kind of big wing the Mavs need. Can guard multiple positions. Has the size to play SF/PF. Brings some playmaking ability.
So, given the Portland haul for CJ (I don't think Snell and Nance have that much value...just filler), can we justify a player who can play some (take your pick from among Kuzma, KCP, Harrell and Bryant) Avdija and a pick from Washington and taking on the Bertans contract for KP?

If that is good value for Washington, can you then swap that player (Indy's choice who) and the Washington pick (2025) to Indy for Turner?  What does Dallas have to add to which team if that isn't fair:

Turner/Powell
Maxi/Bertans
DFS/Avdija
Brunson/Bullock
Luka/Green

Why do you include Bertans in all the deals? You need to stop sending Porzingis´ Latvian brother to Dallas and that´s coming from somebody that wanted the Mavs to draft the red-headed Dirk impersonator all the way back when the Spurs took him in the 2nd round.

Harrell/Bryant are the better players and on expiring deals, too. Not going to argue the preference between Avdija/Hachimura, but Porzingis should have enough value that we don´t take that sh*tty Bertans contract, unless they take THJ.
I am not expecting much from the Mavs.  The opp to be aggressive was this past offseason.  They will have a better chance to be more aggressive this offseason or next trade deadline imo.

I am hopeful for Dragic.  I think that would be a nice get...especially via a buyout.    I am secretly hoping we make a small trade for a distressed asset.   I am thrilled how we have seen improvement from a lot of players this year.   I would love to see us get a young player who you can get for .25 cents on the dollar and rehab him here.   I really don't have a name but I would like to see a move like this.

edit-  I will be disappointed if they are not aggressively looking for someone in the TPE.   It seems like it is the mantra every year.   Get a TPE and then say how awesome it will be and then watch it disappear.   I am not expecting much but the distressed asset mentioned above would be players I would target.
I guess we'll know how this all shakes out soon, even if nothing shakes out...

Harrell and Bryant are trash on this team.  Bryant can’t be our full time center…not enough D.  No desire for rent-a-Harrell who teams seem to want to get rid of very quickly.

The theory behind adding Bertans was to coax a first round pick out of Washington.  So, Avdija/Kuzma for KP and pay us a pick for taking Bertans.  At the time Kuzma and the pick would have been included in a deal for Turner (moot now).

There is no telling whether KP is worth more or less than Kuzma and Avdija.  We can each have theories, but until he is actually in a deal, no one will know how he is actually viewed by other teams.

KOC kept mentioning ATL's love for a defensive wing for Collins. That is their primary goal in a Collins trade. Said they liked Barnes, DFS, Maxi for Collins.  SAC was interested before the Sabonis deal. Odds are they don't really want him now.

I will say though, the 3-team trade between SAC/ATL/IND did get a but more interesting.

What about a slight change into something like this:

SAC: KP- A stretch big that can play next to Sabonis. Further cashes in their win now move and makes more sense than Holmes. Kings shed about 4 mil in salary as well.
ATL: Barnes+Kleber (and we can add DFS if that what it really takes). ATL gets 2 defensive wings for Collins. Possibly 3. That's a haul for him.
Mavs: Holmes+Collins+Gallo.

Mavs revamp their front court in a fell swoop kind of deal. Everyone gets someone they really like. It makes sense for all of them. Perhaps we could swindle Davion Mitchell out of SAC too if we gave them Trey Burke (I kid but who knows at this point).

There is a Gallo to Toronto rumor for Dragic.  Don’t have time to do the math, but I’d propose amending your amendment by adding Toronto to the deal.

The issue to me is the KP/Sabonis fit.  But, Kings gonna Kings, so you never know.
