If by realistic approach you mean coming to the realization that this FO sucks and Nico is not going to change that, then you are probably right.

Even better would have been to not have THJ on the team and have Holmes instead before the TDL.

Hell this offseason could have been Holmes and Dinwiddie, which would have made sense considering our biggest need was play making and Kidd was intending to play KP with another big for significant minutes.  Not sure who they dump KP in that scenario for, but at least it would not be that Bertans contract.
(02-22-2022, 05:44 PM)ItsGoTime Wrote: [ -> ]I saw maybe 4 or 5 actual picks KP set during his entire time here. Can't call playing tag with the defenders a pick (they never played freeze tag unfortunately...maybe that was KP's problem, he thought they were) and you can't call it a pick just because you know that's what he's supposed to do.

This is what I thought of when the WAS coach started drooling publicly over the Beal/Porzingis "two-man-game"...like, probably not, Wiz fans, sorry.

LOL. So true. They will definitely be disappointed if they think a 2 man game will come out of that mess. If he can't do it with Luka he sure won't with Beal.

Scotto wrote some interesting words on the Mavs and Brunson on his 2022 free agency preview:

Quote:Scotto: What’s going to be interesting is Jalen Brunson’s free agency. A lot of people going into the trade deadline thought Dallas was going to have a tough time keeping both Brunson and Dorian Finney-Smith with the looming luxury tax concerns. Finney-Smith has extended his contract in Dallas. Brunson is the top point guard who could potentially change teams this offseason. On our last HoopsHype podcast episode, I touched on how there’s a lot of smoke whether the Knicks have true interest in Brunson or if those rumors are based on the CAA relationship ties he has with Leon Rose, who represented his dad, Rick Brunson. The Knicks could use a point guard upgrade, and Brunson’s still young enough, where he fits with that core if the Knicks chose to go that route. Dallas will have to decide if they can match his market value with the luxury tax looming and maybe trade Spencer Dinwiddie, or sign-and-trade Brunson, if he breaks the bank.

In any case, seems like there is nothing new or concrete there. Basically "People thought the Mavs weren't going to pay Brunson or DFS, and have since resigned DFS. Knicks desperately need a point guard. Brunson will be one of the best ones. There are some ties to his dad and the Knicks. But it's up to Dallas to choose if they want to keep him."

I think Nico made that choice already when they shipped out KP. I think Cuban has made it very clear he's fine paying the tax for 1 year too.

Mavs could use another big but getting rid of KP was addition by subtraction when it comes to the pick and roll.

Powell 91.3 percentile
Kleber 91.8 percentile
Chriss 80.8 percentile
KP 50.5 percentile

With the added bonus that no one is clogging the paint or demanding post ups. Leading to an increased efficiency for pick and roll ballhandlers in the first few games since the trade.

KP not knowing how to set a screen is one of the most baffling things to me.  With all the coaches every team employs, how can someone not show him how to set a screen?  or stress the importance of it?

That seems like a small thing that separates the Warriors from most other franchises.  Something about their culture but they are really good at fixing the obvious fixable problems with players.
At least we can keep the Moses memes.

Seems like a pretty athletic forward. Doesn't have absurd burst, but can shuffle his feet.

I'm a little disappointed they haven't signed Feron Hunt. He's shown some amazing flashes of 2-way potential in the G-league this year.

Isn't this one of the first players that had a workout with Mavs before the draft?

I don't know about one of the first, but the Mavs did work out Moses Wright.

I'm curious to see if he sees the court. I'm not expecting anything though.
Good.  He was one of the guys I was wondering why we did not sign.  I noticed he had been putting up some solid number with the G-league.   He is probably closer to being ready then Hunt.   But hopefully Hunt is on our summer league team this summer.

If I remember correctly Moses has not been playing basketball for a long time.   He is pretty athletic and probably is a small ball 5 or a Power forward who has some rim run ability.  We will see if he ever makes it as an NBA regular.

The Mavs worked out some solid undrafted guys.  I am not sure if it was luck or if they have some skill here.  I really liked Eugene before he got hurt.  Alvarado from GA Tech looks like a potential backup PG.  And Wright may have a chance.

but but but Feron... Sad

If we let him slip through our fingers hooves, I'm going to be one displeased bovine.
That’s al-wright with me.

Yeah and that is the biggest gripe I had for him hell Brunson is the smallest guy on the team and he makes attempts to throw screens.
This is a very enjoyable analysis of the Mavs Luka Ball Offense and improved defense:

What also interests me about this new addition is MBT's decision on his type of player. Does this already tell us that they expect future changes in this position and already want to build a back up with him?

Ya, he also looks to have almost the exact same build (kindof game too) as Omoruyi.

Seems an uber-athletic PF/C with skills to be determined. What I found interesting is that in the highlight videos he doesn´t even look to be in great shape. Could probably replace 10 pounds of babyfat with muscles and improve his stamina.

You can see the idea behind the signing.

Ya, the first video described him as athletic, but not like explosive or something like that. As I was watching, he seemed to have enough hops to do what he needs to do, but you're right, replacing that little bit more with muscle would give him that extra oomph.
