But in April, although we wanted him back, nobody was talking about $25M+ per year. Even $20M/year was considered steep.

Then Luka got hurt in game 82 (stupid move, IMO) and DAL had to play a UTA team that was a lot of offense and limited on defense. So JB played well with Luka out and really went off in the last 2, which got the media talking. Then JB pretty much reverted to mid-season form once Luka was back doing Luka things.

So now there is a narrative that JB is worth max or near-max money because he's a steady player and stood out for a couple of games when given the chance. I'm not the smartest mind here, but I think JB's team has been able to gin up a bidding war between NYKs and DAL that will result in a contract someone will be looking to unload in the next few years for a new shinier toy. Yea for JB! I hope he gets paid well.

I'm with you. I dont know if Brunson is worth so much money. Sure he played like an all-star in that 2 or 3 games. But can he bring that to the table vs. other teams? It sucks to lose him for nothing (we will see) but imho its possible the Knicks will regret that move (they are still the Knicks Big Grin )

I just included him because the name was listed as a possible return on a potential SnT. Don't have much opinion of him myself.
Gotta admit: I didn’t think there was a way to mess this up but here we are.

I guess they already got their starting backcourt mate on the roster with Dinwiddie.

I highly doubt we will be able to get a SnT done.

Dragic will most likely get the TPMLE and we’re probably done.

Dinwiddie | Dragic
Doncic | Hardaway
Bullock | Green
DFS | Bertans
Wood | Kleber | Powell
So the Clippers extended Zubac and are allegedly after Noel. Even without Noel this seems like Hartenstein is out.

Also any rumours whether the Clippers are compensated for Noel? Only reason the Mavs are not doing Noel for Brunson (straight up in a worst case scenario) would be Cuban being cheap.

We´ll need the TP-MLE to sign a guard, unless we can turn Noel into somebody like White and then go after Hartenstein/Smith.

Coby White + Hartenstein (Smith) is probably the best case outcome, if Brunson is gone.

Other way around keep Noel and sign Monk or Harris. Probably needs to be Monk, cause Harris is just too boring after taking another kick in the nuts.
Clippers are scary deep. Even without Batum. Wonder if they're bringing him back?
Offseason grade is about to officially be an F

Ballmer doesn´t care. As long as it is technically legal, he´ll pay whatever is necessary.

I wouldn’t say that yet. Is Brunson good? Yes. Would I have liked him back? Yes. But reality is the Mavs need a more defensive minded back court member to pair with Luka, and if they can somehow trade for a guy like Brogdon, this offseason would be great.

We should have known he was going to leave. He should have been traded at the deadline. This is malpractice to let him walk for nothing. Smells like one of those old Cuban needs to stay away from the players casualties of this organization

JB probably decided to bolt when Cuban almost caused him to blow out his knee on the sideline in a playoff blow out.

Kidding….I think.

SCORCHED EARTH
Seriously though, can you think of any other franchise where the 2nd-best player just leaves after a successful WCF run?

Feels like a bit of a mistake to not match 25 mill, if that is the truth. They aren't really trying to keep him at all. I can live with him leaving, but how can you not offer him 125/5?

If Jordan Poole comes up for the Warriors and some team goes crazy, Lacob will just match. Cuban really the new Sarver. Great look for the future Rolleyes

Probably dumping Kleber too, when the tax bill is too much. Extend Powell Tongue

I can think of an NBA championship team, where the 2nd best player just left to New York. Cry

Even our current coach once gave us the cold shoulder to sign with New York.
