JK - "We need a new playmaker and a wing for me to consider this offseason salvageable."

Kamm - "Let's get Poeltl!"
I think there is a trade brewing that is gonna include most if not every team in the NBA. The GM’s all had a conference call and decided they want to make history!

I just want good to great players on the same timeline as Luka!

But seriously, Poeltl is one of the BEST centers in the NBA, IMO.

Harris on -0.6
Harris off +7.5 (worst value of the Sixers roster)

Thybulle on -15.5
Thybulle off +5.6 (2nd worst value of the Sixers roster)

These numbers, while interesting, never tell the whole story. I appreciate this info though!

Who is "JK"? Jason Kidd?

That's my point. Bullock isn't going to bring back any player of his caliber straight up. Bullock packaged with either picks or other players, maybe. The only way Philly would give up Maxey would be for someone like KD. Otherwise they see Maxey as a cornerstone of their roster.

Our team is going to just keep adding centers

....while dumping expiring DP. Smile
(07-05-2022, 05:10 AM)DanSchwartzgan Wrote: [ -> ]I like that better than my version.  I was trying too hard to add Springer.  Bassey makes more sense given that we already have developmental Green and Hardy already.  So, with Bassey you have a center, a wing and a scoring guard that you hope will grow into something.

The thing I find interesting about this line of thinking is it turns KP, expiring Powell and our 2021 MLE into Dinwiddie, Harris, Thybulle, Bassey and a second.  I use the 2021 MLE to try to take some emotion out of trading Bullock.  Man, he was great in the playoffs.  Not wanting to disrespect what he did, but if you consider this Thybulle for Bullock, Thybulle is just in another world defensively.  He's already a 2x All-Defensive Team at 24.  Now you are turning KP/Powell into Dinwiddie/Harris (and a bunch of nothing into Christian Wood).

If, as I presume, Thybulle would start, Nico will have added three players to the starting lineup around Luka and DFS in Wood, Harris and Thybulle.  Two can score 20 on any given night (and average between 17 and 20 for their careers) and one is a DPOY candidate.  Nico will have also added a Sixth Man candidate in Dinwiddie and a Powell replacement who is better defensively and a better rebounder in McGee (plus Bassey and Hardy)  That would be a pretty significant roster churn in a year.

What are the salary/tax ramifications of this trade?

Quick math:

Reggie (10M) + Bertans (16M) + Powell (11M) = 37M outgoing
Harris (37.6M) + Thybulle (4.4M) + Bassey (1.5M) = 43.5M incoming

+6.5M

I do find it hard to believe that Cuban would make a trade that would increase his tax bill. By my count, that also makes Wood, Thybulle, Maxi, Frank, Pinson free agents next year? The first three supposedly being critical to team success and due a bigger contract, more than likely, meaning an even bigger bill next year...

Signing Dieng to trade Poeltl?  I'll take the odds on that.

If you want a deal that results in less salary, see the THJ for Burks/Saben Lee trade.  It takes us down to just a few dollars over the apron.  Burks is a team option next summer meaning Powell, Wood, Maxi, Burks, Green, Frank and Theo all expire and Bullock ($5.4mm) is partially guaranteed.

The Spurs are doing a MASSIVE tank for the #1 pick. Poeltl is likely to be traded for THAT reason and that reason alone.

I can't help but think that something like this is far more likely.
TJ Warren to the Nets on a one year deal.

Has to be the minimum right?

I think his injury scared off all the other teams.
