I'll be highly disappointed if Kyrie is turned into D'Lo and a first. I don't even want D'Lo and two firsts. Kyrie maybe crazy but he's a top 10 NBA talent and he's won a chip. He hit the damn game winner in Steph's face.

In the "everything is peachy with Kyrie and the Mavs" scenario I can already tell you're assuming will happen, I agree.

But, A) some crisis will happen, it's Kyrie and B) he might not want to stay here.

Although the Lakers still don't have enough space even if they renounce everyone to get Kyrie his max. They're about 15 mil short. That's with AD+Lebron+Reaves on the squad.

What are the odds the Mavs say "Ok, if you want to take a near $100 mil discount to go play with Lebron+AD+ and minimums go ahead."

Speaking of that, I was going to ask Dan and @"F Gump" to paint a picture of what the Mavs can offer Kyrie versus the rest of the league/positioning against the CAP.

Projected CAP is 134M
BBall-Ref has Lakers at 4 players under contract:  LBJ (53.3M), AD (40.6M), Damon Jones (2.5M PO), Christie (1.7M).  98M Total.

So Lakers could offer him a 4 year deal starting at ~36M?  Some other team could offer him 4YR 210M.  Mavs can offer him 5YR 272M.  If he really wants to play in LA, he'd need a considerable haircut without a S&T.  Sound right?

Frankie Smokes and McGee

Who says no?

Seriously though, maybe you offer Wood for those two and hope their upside finally comes around.  Wood might flourish under GSW's stewardship.

If they want Wood they have a deal. That´s the kind of gamble I would make without thinking twice.

I'm hoping he's changed teams enough and he won't have the attention of the Boston/New York media here that he'll be happy. Chances are you are correct and I'm just hopeful, but I'm going to be hopeful until he gives me reason not to. Not much choice now..lol

I'm just looking at it as protection from the worst case scenario of Kyrie walking and the Mavs getting nothing in return.

There was nothing in the Kyrie presser yesterday that gave me warm fuzzies and Cubes does tend to fuck things up a lot.

He wanted to go there last summer because they were the only team willing to throw him the max at that point. Now? I think the Mavs would happily sign him if he performs.

Further all the smoke was coming from Lebron trying his hardest to make the deal. This summer I think it's more likely Lebron forces his way out than the Lakers bring anyone in.

Also, did anyone else miss that little tidbit of Kyrie shit talking the NYK media? He distinctly expressed his hatred for that big market and how the media made a story of everything he said. Lakers would be more of the same circus. I don't think Kyrie is nearly as motivated to go there as its being made to believe right now.

Of course, he wants the money, and if the Mavs don't pay then I can see him very happily forcing himself to the one team that will always pay. But Cuban just found his big fish, I don't think he's going to willingly let him go.

sorry bud

Im not buying any of this.

He already sounded in his introductory press conference like he’d rather be in LA. Plus dumbass Cuban and Kidd have already started insulting the most sensitive player in the league.

This sounds a lot like the “Brunson going to the Knicks is overblown” days.

That´s a future move, I´d consider, if we had done the Westbrook + two firsts tank/cap cleaning deal. With our construct being win now, that´s too much of an upgrade for one of our main competitors. I´d need Wiseman + Kuminga to start thinking.

Here is a trade I like for Wood:

Step 1:

Markieff Morris for Jaden McDaniels, since Morris can only be traded by himself.

Step 2:

Gordon Hayward and Mason Plumlee for Christian Wood, Dwight Powell, JaVale McGee and Theo Pinson

This is a massive immediate cap relief trade for the Hornets, everything expires, except they have to eat Joel.

Step 3:

Isaac for THJ, since I don´t think the Magic would actually do Harris/Bamba for THJ, but they might do Isaac straight up.

or

Crowder/Saric for THJ, when the Suns come to their senses regarding the value off DNWPFY (do not wanna play for you) Crowder.

New Mavs

Doncic/Hardy/Ntilikina
Irving/Bullock/Lawson
Green/Hayward/Crowder
McDaniels/Kleber/Bertans
Plumlee/Saric/X

Then I´d rely heavily on the buyout market for another 2-3 ring chasers as injury insurance. Maybe Reddish and another PG/C.
THJ ain't having that much value in him right now to enable those great trade proposals imho. should've moved his ass earlier when several teams showed interest in him.

kyrie was annoyed by brooklyn so much he wouldn't  have re-signed with them even if they offered the max. dude just wanted out imho.
I seriously do not get this fascination with Poetl. Why do I want to pay 1-2 first round picks for the privilege to pay him $20M for 12/9/3, when I can probably get Mason Plumlee´s 12/10/4 for nothing and probably have to pay him $5-8M in the summer. Yeah people say he´s good defensively, cause he plays on the Spurs, who nobody cares about. In the end, he´s the same size/weight as all those dinosaurs people want to stay away from, because you can scheme them off the floor in the play-offs.

Anyway doesn´t seem like the trade candidates are suffering from right calf injuries. Hayward, Plumlee and Bojan out there. Even Levert getting a rare start tonight to showcase his stuff.

Thank god I’m not the only one
Kyle Lowry to the Clippers makes sense at this point

I like this for the Lakers, but probably doesn’t move needle much.  Also like for Utah.  Solid gamble that 27 lakers pick will be good.  Interested in protection though.

Not sure what Minny is doing.  I actually like Conley more than Russell.  But at 35 with another year left sort of feels hollow.  We will see.
Tim McMahon says Mavericks would trade Christian Wood for Reggie Jackson.

With Vanderbilt off the board, josh hart should be the top reasonable target. Hart/Eubanks for Wood would be amazing

Bad deal for utah. Good for LA. Meh for Minny. Utah would have got more if they sold those players individually. 3 2nds out and one protected 1st in? For all three of Conley, Vandy, Beasley? When they were looking for a 1st for each
