Would you re-sign him for about the MLE price?

Absolutely, but I don't see him going that cheap. If we still have him after the trade deadline and didn't sign him to an extension, I see his value increasing the rest of the season. The Mavs will have more exposure now. They should make a playoff run of some kind depending on moves made by TDL. If he performs in the playoffs, everything will be forgiven and someone will give him stupid money. It happens every year.

That trade deadline cough sure is making the rounds.

Has the look of a possible trade involving Ntilikina.  We'll see if THJ acquires a "cough"

He hasn't been playing the last few games. I was hoping he was on his way out before the Kyrie trade.

This team HAS to make more moves. The Irving trade was an all in move. No way they sit back and go to war with what they have. i think we may see another huge trade or 2 to 3 smaller ones.

Nico: I have the high guard. Don't try it!
Ainge: You understimate my trade valu......oh, nevermind. You've got a deal.

Now we just need to convince GSW that Wood and Bullock help them win another chip and they should give us all their rookie contract talent for it.

Wood, Bullock, Theo and Frank (for salary purposes)

for

Kuminga, Wiseman, Moody and Baldwin

I'm all in on chaos now and the only thing more chaotic than Kyrie a Mav would be watching a 2nd unit of Hardy, Moody, Baldwin, Kuminga and Wiseman run around like toddlers high on pixie sticks.
Christian Wood and THJ for John Collins and Bogdan Bogdonvic. Maybe at least a framework worth considering. Saves ATL money this year and into the future.

I like it, but if it saves ATL money, doesn't that mean it costs Cuban money? I know he just stepped up financially (one of the things I actually do like about this trade) but are we sure there's just an open luxury tax spending spout running at the AAC right now?

I think it's just as likely that they'll try to save some money in the next deal, given what just occurred. Although it's tough to tell for sure at this point, I admit.

Also, I wonder if that whole "cap space as a fallback plan" crap the media is running with is their own dot connecting, or if it's coming from the organization, somehow...If it's coming from the Mavs, you can skip any ideas that add significant future salary, right? If that's the case, we should be looking for other expiring deals to come up with trade ideas.
I would feel much better about this type of deal IF there were another deal that would bring back a more effective 5 defensively (see Below).

I HOPE (unrequitedly I am sure) that Dallas can figure out the Wood situation and roll with Luka, Kyrie, and C-Wood.

IF not I would explore a couple of the buy low BIG options from Orlando: Isaac and Bamba. Bertans and McGee would be my preference, but probably not something Orlando would take without the tip.
So no discussion here of the radio report that the Mavs have a deal in principle with the Raps to be announced tomorrow involving Tim and Wood going for Siakam? I would assume that 27 and Green would be included. I'm 99% sure it's BS, but damn, fill out the roster with buy-outs and plan the parade if it did happen.

The problem is we don't have anything to tip.  Either its the players we currently have or include the extremely valuable unprotected 27.  There is no in between.  Maybe Hardy, but I don't know if he has enough value right now to be worth us giving him up.

I would assume Green and Hardy would go as well, but damn we'd have a legit big 3. I think I make that move as much as I hate to trade Green or Hardy.
(02-06-2023, 10:02 AM)Smitty Wrote: [ -> ]I think THJ for Lavert makes a lot of sense. Cavs have reportedly shown a lot of interest in THJ.

Mavs fill two needs in replacing THJ (who can only start for some reason) with Lavert (off the bench)

AND

The Mavs get off of THJ's money next year. They let Lavert expire and go elsewhere while having Hardy (ready or not) be the cheap Lavert replacement.

You then keep Wood or add the '27 FRP with him to get back two defensive minded players (a big and a wing preferably)

Wood + Frank + '27 FRP for Batum + Mann from the Clippers
Also when healthy LeVert can run a PnR somewhat efficiently. He’d be a solid fit alongside Hardy as the two bench guards. Allows Hardy to finish plays more than create them.

I REALLY hope we’ll come out of the trade deadline with clearly defined roles for Green as the starting SF and Hardy as a regular rotation guy.

I don't think Atlanta does that, but its a move that probably made more sense prior to Kyrie.  They are desperately short on defense right now, and this does not really address that.

What is the source of this "radio report" you speak of?

This makes a lot of sense for the Nets. Smart decisions being made over there...

OMG, if you thought I was pissed before...

If the Mavs taking on the money thief somehow enables BRK to get the player DALLAS should've been going for all this time, I'm waring you all...I'm going to completely lose my mind.
