Quote:John Collins continues to be mentioned as the most likely trade candidate among impact veterans around the league, and it’s believed Collins and the Atlanta Hawks have a mutual interest to find him a new destination. Atlanta’s recent conversations with Sacramento regarding Collins have not included the No. 4 pick, sources confirmed to B/R. The Hawks and Kings held talks about Collins before the February trade deadline. Sacramento's Harrison Barnes is considered available for trade.
Per Jake Fischer:

Quote:The Orlando Magic have emerged as a landing spot for teams to shed future salary at the cost of future draft picks, sources said. The Magic will have upward of $30 million in cap space once free agency begins. Other room teams such as the Detroit Pistons and Indiana Pacers could be viable options for the Knicks to offload contracts.

This is an excellent example of when the guy who writes the Twitter headlines for clicks is different than the guy who writes the linked article.

Article headline: "The Divide Between Kyrie Irving and Brooklyn"

Summary: Kyrie may be leaving Brooklyn. The Knicks are interested, but would have to move mountains to create enough cap space to sign him.

Single-sentence detail: "The Knicks are said to be targeting roughly $25 million in room to be able to chase Dallas Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson..."

Very important caveat: "...who league personnel widely believe will return to Dallas..."

Reason it's actually mentioned: "Even if New York pivoted away from Brunson... the Knicks would have a large gap to meet Irving's contractual wishes." The article goes on to discuss teams like Orlando and Indiana who might eat bad contracts for picks.

Realistic headline if you actually read the article: "The Knicks want a point guard but have few options to acquire one"

Clickbait Twitter headline targeting the NY market: "The Knicks are looking to clear $25M in cap space to go after Jalen Brunson in free agency"
1. Thanks for that reminder, Tyler. Spot on.

2. When I'm perusing all these reports of teams looking to move up, move down, clear space, move this player, move that player, it's a maze. My head is spinning, since the same player is headed to multiple teams, and certain teams might be moving up in the draft, except they might be looking to move down ...and when all is said and done, all of this may happen, but sometimes hardly any of it does.

3. The next few days will be interesting, to see who actually does what. And who had lots of rumors swirling, yet did nothing.
Knicks have a busy offseason.  From what I gather, they are going to move up to 4 to take Ivey, trade for Kyrie, sign and trade for Brunson, trade for Brogdon and then use their rest of their assets for Donovan Mitchell.   I am not sure if a Ivey, Kyrie, Brunson, Brogdon and Mitchell lineup will work.  But at least the Knicks fans will be entertained Smile

I am not sure if Nico will be a good GM or not, but I do have confidence that he is a good communicator and will tell it straight.  I think Cuban is more of a make things up as you go and it led to things feeling everything the Mavs did was unorganized.   I think Nico is more deliberate.  So my hope is the bread crumbs have been laid with Jalen and both sides feel comfortable where they are.    And that Dallas is not working behind the scenes on inquiring about Dame Lillard or something like that.

This would work straight up, but combined with the rumors of Kyrie Irving and the Lakers, it's actually pretty easy to turn this into a 3-team trade. Just send the Charlotte players to Brooklyn and then Kyrie and Patty Mills to LA.

Of course, If I were the Lakers I would rather take the Charlotte players, but then I am not Lebron wanting to play with all my old buddies.

This is the second time we've heard about Russ to CHA.

I have NO idea why they'd be remotely interested in that, especially with Lamelo and Roizer actually working. Is Hayward that bad of a contract?? I mean I know he can't stay healthy but there have to be better deals out there for him no?

There are some knicks players that I wouldn't mind helping them get off their books for their PG pursuit.  If only we had a TPE ready to help them out...

I would be totally fine with sending them Timmy and an expiring Powell.  Given our minutes situation, we could start Hayward but keep his minutes limited.  We also have the Casey factor.  Charlotte gets to shed some cash, get a backup big, and get a good player on a descending contract.  I could see that as a win/win.  Then we get the best center we can with the tax MLE and maybe Dragic.  Perfect offseason.

Fits into the correct lineup hole at the 4, not at all redundant to Wood, offensively, and would obviously add an entirely new dimension to the team.

Of course there's really no way the Mavs can make the right offer at this time, I don't think.

I do want to say if there is even a remote possibility of getting Durant here I'd be all for it. Brunson and 3 picks. I don't care. KD is a 30ppg scoring unicorn.
