Question is which suckas will give Ainge first round picks for any of these players.
The only player on that list that is maybe worth a first is Bogi (mayyyybe Clarkson). The rest are seconds based on play or contract.

Is that what Mr. Ainge is saying?

Yeah, I think several of those guys will be sold at higher prices than we're expecting.

Of course, that doesn't mean Dallas should still be interested. It's all case by case, to me. Which name, for which team (trying to accomplish what with the transaction) and for what additional outgoing stuff in the deal?

I could understand a 1st outgoing for Conley from Dallas' perspective if Bertans was also outgoing (no idea if that's the best Utah could do), because I happen to think Conley in a 20-25 minute role off the bench makes this team significantly better for the next season or two. Like, quite a bit better. But, I'm not sure I'd be thrilled about that deal.

Don’t care, unless our FO does, which I don’t think they do.

Absolutely. I can also envision a combination of those players being worth a first more than the outgoing on our side. For example: Bogi and Conley for THJ and Powell. I think Utah asking for a first in that instance is not bad. They could even look at THJ’s declining contract as their way to do what OKC did.

If Bertans is the outgoing, then the combination of getting off of his contract + a useful player is probably well worth a first.

While I get that neither one is great defensively at this point in their careers, my sense is that Clarkson is much more effective than Conley offensively. He would absolutely be an upgrade for us, and probably almost enough that we don't miss Brunson. I would absolutely do Bertans and a first for Clarkson, although I don't think Ainge would.

Creating shots for himself, maybe. Running the offense...idk.

I think Conley is still the more valuable player, even on his contract and with his level of decline. I think he was pretty underrated to begin with.

But, we'll see what happens for sure if Mitchel gets traded. No way they'd want to keep any of these dudes if they're blowing it up.

Numbers are saying the direct opposite. Maybe Clarkson is more of a shot creator but just looking at scoring efficiency Conley looks a lot better.

I was speaking more to their worth in a vacuum without discussing the return value. Bertans being worth -1 first would mean the trade to be even would require a first and whatever the other player value is.

It would be a bit of a steal to get off Bertans contract and get a useful player while only spending a first.

The ideal scenario would be to get both and use Conley's bad contract number to offset the value of Clarkson.  It's too bad we don't have the right $35m in expiring contracts for a match.
Can they just announce the Mitchell trade already?

This is the worst time of the year, by far. The time from the start of the playoffs through about the 4th or 5th day of free agency is non-stop fun, but this lull sucks.

Laughable Lakers.  The 1st is for getting off of Westbrook and then 2 2nd's for Turner and Hield?  That's almost insulting to the Pacers.

I am NOT high on MT or BH, but I think LAL should have to pay two 1sts in that deal.

I was thinking West vs East.  In the West the bad teams appear to have a solid long term view.  OKC, Utah and SA all look to looking further out.   Sacramento is probably a step up from these and should be thinking long term, but they are at least interesting.

The East is lacking the truly bad teams.  Teams that should be taking the long term view, are not really doing that.   Maybe Orlando/Detroit is doing the longterm planning and maybe they have trouble winning again.  But Washington, Indiana (this may change, Charlotte appear happy in no mans land.   I do wonder what happens when 2-3 of these teams in the East turn out to be really bad due to injury or roster design?  I think Charlotte may be one of these teams.  What happens if the Bulls, Wizards, Pacers really struggle.  I think a few of these teams may look to blow things up.   Those are the type of teams we may want to look for a mid season trade.  Probably not our big trade, but Dwight Powell plus something.

This is what just about every NBA player says when they enter free agency.
I think I am out on a Conley trade.   I would be interested if he was eventually bought out though.   I just can't get excited about a 20 plus million a year guy off the bench for the next two years.  Especially considering Dallas was really hesitant given Jalen above 20 million.  Jalen is young and better than Conley now.
