How many times can one player be almost traded?
There rumors are adding up to the Nicks working to make cap space without S&T and Mav's looking at contingency players (GP2, Dragic).  Getting more concerned.

The rumors absolutely are painting a pretty coherent picture IMO.

Are they though?  I agree that it's definitely possible that Brunson leaves and maybe he's already made up his mind either way.

But since Brunson isn't a "definitely give him the max contract as soon as possible" type of player (like a Luka) then he (and his agent) are going to have to convince the Mavs that Brunson needs more money (rumors that he's going to the Knicks) and the Mavs are going to have to convince Brunson (and his agent) that they can't afford what he's asking and have already lined up back up plans (rumors of Dragic/GP2).  To me it's just both sides negotiating.

Brunson may have already decided he wants to play for the Knicks and will leave, or he may just be wanting to get as much from the Mavs as possible before resigning (good for him!).  Either way though these rumors were going to be happening this week regardless of where he ends up, so I'm not really convinced they're telling us anything.

Interesting that Boston suddenly wants Burks and LAC suddenly wants Noel.  Could also be PR targeting Dallas telling them to take our S&T offer because our guys are really really really popular around the league.  I hope Dallas gets the 2023 pick back.  As I’ve said in another thread, that team building asset is the only thing that makes the rest of this palatable.
DS, I'm not sure Boston wants Burks or LAC wants Noel. From what I've seen, both ideas are worded that there were talks, or "preliminary" conversations, or the like. But so far, nothing saying it's going anywhere.

To me that's just NY reaching out to gauge interest, the same as they have been doing all along, and someone has mentioned it. I don't even see it as concerning, since I have been assuming NY is constantly gauging who might take salary and what it will cost, just in case.

“Wanting” should have been in quotes.  It was meant to be tongue in cheek.  Yeah, NY could be gauging interest.  I think the odds are just as great that NY is sending messages through the media.
Is there a realtor on this board? What we seem to have with the Jalen Brunson pursuit is a good ole fashioned bidding war. Would think a good realtor would have some very recent experience with that kind of negotiation and could maybe shed some light.

I suspect we’re going to be looking back at this summer in awe of the deal Brunson’s agent finagled for him. Far from convinced it won’t be here. But the writing on the wall says 5 x 25 won’t get er done.

Yeah, that makes sense!

We live with the truth that everyone - the team with a certain player, other teams, agents, and media -  all have an agenda to generate noise at certain times of year (draft, free agency, TDL). So someone or other seems to mention everyone going everywhere, without much caution, because if you ask, someone will tell you something you can pass along. It can even be smokescreens for a team, offering "activity mentions" without anyone being told what they really are aiming for. If anything.

I read it, and consider it. But I also tend to be very wait-n-see, since 99% is just nonsense we are being fed.

If the Knicks move Randle, lemme see here (~taking off my shoes to count better!~) seems like they can offer Brunson about a billion a year now. Wow!

So Brunson gets paid to go to NY and play second banana to Murray instead of Luka? WTF?

Also, even with JB, how are the Knicks anywhere close to win now mode to make that kind of investment?

But I do realize this is the Knicks we're talking about here.

Yep.

"Preliminary discussions" in this case most likely means that the Knicks left a voicemail and immediately leaked it to the media.
Yeah, I would think Brunson needs to take a COLD hard look at NY and its history under Dolan, before jumping into that quagmire. I know it's going to be hard for him to do that, in light of how much of the current regime is tied so closely to NY and will have lofty dreams for the future there.

But if Brunson signs there, they are out of money with a half-talented team. Then what? Want to be in that sort of mess of struggling to barely rise, year after year? The bottom of the lottery, with mediocrity on the court and so-so picks, is not the place to be if you want to be a winner.

And, if Brunson wants to win titles, he needs to be on a team where either he's the superstar, or where one is there. That's not NY, and there's no real path to that changing in NY, with or without JB. Wonder how he could find a place like that to play??????
