I’ll settle for 1-2 of their SRPs left, they aren’t trading future FRPs and we’re trading them Bertans and McGee. Lots of future salary.

Looking at the rumors it doesn´t look like LA is willing to take on "bad" longterm salary. And they certainly wouldn´t pay for it.

Ok but point still stands that any team who might give up an asset for Dinwiddie needs to be called. Same goes for everyone on the roster outside Luka and Green.
I'm finally at that point. Its time to move on from Dinwiddie. He may actually have some value left.

We're not using him right, and hopefully a team would pay an asset to have him in the role we had him last year. Moving him to the starting lineup was a mistake from the beginning, and we all saw it.

Gave this some more thought and as much as I’d like to clear Bertans sooner rather than later, if he’s still here at the end of the 23/24 season, he isn’t really a problem from a space standpoint.  At the very worst, he can be stretched in the summer of 24 and his $5mm only counts as $1.66mm against the cap.

So, I wouldn’t pay anything to move him.  That leaves the real questions between now and then to be THJ and what happens with Wood.

We have to consider Green's raise too. And hopefully we can rid ourselves of McGee by then also.

I don't think Mavs have the luxury to lose Wood or equivalent salary (and hopefully quality) beyond this season. They just can't afford another player walk for nothing, imho. If Wood (or replacement) is THJ equivalent salary in 2024 and Mavs resign Green for 10 per while the rest either expires or is close to vet-min, Mavs would have roughly 110 mil salaries without Bertans and THJ in 2024. Current projected salary cap is at 143 mil. So not enough for max salary, but also not very far.

But, 2024 plan powder is certainly not plan A, B, C or even plan D for me. I think Mavs need to stay well over the cap and nail some trades. Based on the mistakes from past years they should actually stay hugely in tax to correct them, imho. Without that, I am very sceptical about their chances.

The moment Nerlens was being rumored it seemed like Hardaway for Nerlens/Burks was probably the discussion. It’s the one contract shuffling move that also may help slightly from a basketball standpoint too. We need front court help BAD and Burks is the type of guy you can plug into any system right away.

That contract was a failure on an epic level. With 2 centers down, Mavs rather play half a game without a center than give minutes to McGee. I mean, someone should be fired for this.

I am not sure, we actually do need it. I think we are ok with a healthy rotation of Powell, Wood and Maxi. I wouldn't waste anything above vet min for yet another limited center. Mavs are not contending this season anyway

For that to happen Detroit has to bite or take the bait if you will.  Not sure what they're going to do.  I saw on a Detroit forum they're just as likely to keep Burks and Bojan as to trading them unless they get what they want.  If they move anyone,  it will be Noel.

Detroit also made a larger offer to Hardaway when we signed him.  They'd essentially be getting the player the wanted at a lower price (assuming they're still interested).  To your point though I am curious what they actually think about Burks.

I don't think they have any interest at all. They got Bogdanovic in same role, who is a much better player.
League executives from both conferences have a half-joking half-serious policy when it comes to Jazz CEO Danny Ainge. If Ainge calls about making a trade, let it go to voicemail...       Big Grin

That makes sense.  I wonder if Detroit is expecting additional compensation for such a move or if they’d make it straight up.  If they want compensation, then maybe that is where Dallas says ‘fine, we’ll add a pick, but we have to swap Bertans for Bojan too.
