Oh, for sure. They'd become title favorites overnight. As we've seen, that's no guarantee of a title, but hell yes you add KD if you can.
@"SleepingHero" You know what my tinfoil hat and I both agree is infinitely more likely than KD to Dallas (but still totally won't happen)?

Lebron to Dallas.

Right.  Kinda like the Lakers did to get Westbrook!

I'd vomit a bit in my mouth.

I don't want King James' circus coming to D-Town. I'd much rather have the guy who willingly chose to team up with Mr. Flat Earth.

I may be interested in this as well.  A few things, I am in the camp of holding steady unless I find a clear upgrade.    This may not be a clear upgrade due to injury concerns but it does make the roster a cleaner fit.   Plus, maybe there is some hidden upside if you can get and keep Hayward healthy.  Big if.

Charlotte is one of the irrelevant franchises I am really interested in what they do this offseason.    They may not be in a spot right now looking for trades as they have some egg in their face with their coaching search.  They also have picks 13 and 15 in the draft.  Do they get their center with one of those picks or do they make a trade?  If I was a Charlotte fan, I would be hoping Duran and Sochan fell to me with both picks.   That would be a nice pairing imo.  There are others I would like there too.   If they keep both picks, they would be adding two more rookies to go with the two rookies from last year.   That is a lot of young players for a team trying to win now.   Does MJ swallow the bullet and give Bridges a huge payday?   Do they extend PJ Washington?

I could see Hardaway playing well under Dan'toni (if hired), but I am not sure they would be interested in taking on those additional years.

Interesting idea though.

To me that falls into the category of likely too good to be true.  Of course I probably would have said same about Wood trade.

I would be willing to add Green to that trade if it lands us Washington.

I’ll drive em to the airport.
That would make things interesting.  Do you see Hayward as a starter here, or sixth man type?

I have been thinking about trades like this - depressed assets.  I was thinking about Issac in ORL with them about to add a big in the draft.  Taking Hayward's contract would be worth it if adding a rookie scale player with upside that fits us like Washington.  Would still need a defensive big, but less difficult to obtain than 2 way wings, apparently.

Doncic/SD
JB/Bullock
DFS/Hayward
Wash/DB
Wood/Maxi/(TPE Noel or TMLE JSmith)

That has a great flex to it.  I like Josh Green, but yeah, I would throw him into that trade.  I wouldn't worry much about the lineup - so much flex in those spots.

Starter, imo. Bullock goes to the bench and the Mavs contend for a title.

I've wanted Hayward here for YEARS. Such an underrated player (when healthy).

I edited my post to spit ball it a bit.  Figure him as a super sixth man and keep his minutes down a bit in regular season to keep him healthy. The depth and quality in that lineup is tasty.  Would be pricey when Wash comes due next year, but that is a contender, if healthy during playoff time.

Super switchable - almost entire lineup (starters/backups) between 6'6' - 6'10'' with exception of JB.

I'd see Hayward as more of a 6th man type. Not only because I think they need Bullock's better D in the starting lineup, but also because that might lead to less wear and tear on GH (and less chance of another injury).

Some afterthoughts ....

1 I don't think PJW is really a center, and certainly not one to defend the bigger trad ones. So trading DP means another BIG will have to be on the shopping list.

2  But here's something --- if D'antoni is the coach with his run-n-shoot being QB'ed by Ball, is the trade maybe THJ + Bertans that gives him 2 super-shooters? Or THJ+Bertans+ DP, with another player added from the Cha end? It feels like Cha may end up chasing more offense-oriented players, while Mavs move the other direction.

I think Hayward would start but play mid 20s minutes.  He is a big wing like Dorian (and really Luka).  The position flex would be insane.

I don't see any minutes for Bertans if we make a move like this.  There are so many guys ahead of him at the 4.  Given Hayward's cost for the next two years and the Washington signing, I think you could make a good argument for stretch waiving Bertans to keep the tax bill reasonable.

In the event of Green, THJ and Powell for Hayward/PJ Washington, I go:

1 Luka
2 Brunson
3 DFS
4 Hayward
5 Wood

with a bench of:

Dinwiddie
Bullock
Kleber
Washington

And OMG do I like my chances next year with this team.

I think that is a great lineup, but I still like Hayward off the bench - for both off/def reasons.  That second unit has 3 of the top four defenders, and would struggle to score a bit.  Again, in the flow of the game, rotations will be what they are.  I would just line it up in a way that protects GH and has more D in the starting lineup.  There is only one ball and Luka/JB/GH/Wood all need shots.

Oh, I'd never play all of the bench at the same time, regardless of how the lineup shakes out.

And, for my money, Hayward is a very good defender, FWIW.
