The desperate Lakers didn´t want anything to do with him and we gave up Dorian, a 1st and two 2nds while locking ourselves into Irving on a 4 1/2 year contract. There is not even cap relief. Irving basically holds Cuban hostage now, cause Cuban gave away all his leverage.

If I had asked you to evaluate DFS´s trade value 30 minutes ago (contract and player), you´d have said two firs round picks. So we just traded three firsts and two seconds for Kyrie Irving, a proven team cancer and a moron, so we can lock him into a 4 1/2 deal that has played 150 games over the last four years. Gotta love it. Nets probably cannot believe their luck. Haha.

DFS worth 2 FRPs?  On what planet?

Let's temper the enthusiasm. Denver is still the favorite at this point in my eyes,  but they had to do something. Kyrie didn't play last night, so I knew something was up.  Do you think Kidd had pressure before?...  I'm going to pass judgment for now, this HAS to work.

DFS is not worth two firsts. He never was and never will be.
Not a fan of the price but they’re clearly going all in now.  They still have a pick to trade now and in the offseason. I’m not about to leave a bunch of receipts around saying this team is doomed because this franchise now has their best player and second best player figured out and assets to turn the rest of this over.

The only thing that’s painful is that Brunson could have been had at a cheaper cost than whatever this extension turns out to be.

Really curious what happens to this board if I’m being honest.
I think Mavs have 6 months window to win a title with Luka. After that, the fireworks will be spectacular Smile

All in. Better make some additional moves because right now the Mavs don´t have a legit SF or PF. Trade Wood for a defensive front court upgrade.

This board is depressing. Most people are negative about everything the Mavs do.

Keep Wood, imho. Trade THJ or Bertans for a 3-D wing. Although, Wood could also bring something in

It's not depressing. Your reputation precedes you...

LOL. I got some good news. We don´t have enough picks to trade Bertans and THJ, cause I´m sure Cuban would give up two more for Alec Burks and Nerleans Noel, if he could. Big Grin

Need to send out value to get something in return. With Kyrie and Luka sharing the ball defense is way more important than another scoring threat. The Mavs have Kidd´s pipe dream of two super talented iso scorers. No one else will touch the ball.
I wanted Kyrie, but not at that price. I can almost forgive the 1st rounder since it's so far out and would still allow another all-in move. I can almost forgive including DFS since they have Bullock and Green to play the 3&D role. But including both? Was there any negotiation at all or did Cuban just give them exactly what they asked for?

Having said that...I'm not all doom and gloom. I think they need to find a DFS-lite to fill the void at forward, but Luka+Kyrie is an incredible 1-2 punch. They don't really need a big minute 3rd ballhandler in my view. If this team can ever get healthy and Wood keeps up his defensive improvement, they can absolutely make noise in the West.

I'm curious what's going to happen with the Kyrie contract situation though. I was adamant they would not give him a 4 year max. Given how Cuban folded like a cheap lawn chair in the trade, I'm no longer so sure of that. He's probably too scared of losing him to offer anything other than max dollars and max years.

Oh yeah, no doubt they just accelerated the Luka departure. You can already talk yourself into the Jimmy Butler/Tyler Herro/Kyrie Irving championship window. I just hope the picks changing hands in the Luka trade are protected. We shouldn´t trade Luka away with two unprotected Mavs firsts.

Of course they are giving him the full four year max, what else is left after they traded away everything, while not generating any capspace.

This will be the perfect test for the style we want to play. Luka/Kyrie will just take turns iso  and PnR. Surround them with shooters, screeners and rollers

We need that Vanderbilt/Naz Reid player to play next to Wood if we keep him(or if we don’t)
I'm curious about the next moves. Hopefully they have something else in the works.
If you think Luka didn't triple approve this deal, you're crazy.

Exactly. Luka wanted the deal so nothing else matters. This will go a long way towards Luka signing an extension. Regardless of how it works out. This is a good thing if you’re a mavs fan
What a insanely terrible trade. Franchise-killing mistake. Nothing more to say.
It's a shame we don't have more SRP... because we need some extra moves.. I wonder if it would work Hardy/Ntilikina for Mcdaniels/Richards/DSJ
Just try to get Mo Bamba and let's get outta here
