That alone I'd be happier to accept any other player on the Knicks.

That's fair.

OTOH, if he's the right player, getting him here under contract with Bird rights feels like it would be a big boost. And even if he misses the start of season, and is slowed, he will be here, on the team, and available to learn the system so he's more prepared when healed, I would think.

Another factor to me is that the injury may make NY more eager to move him AND more willing to offer side assets to get the Mavs to take him, because other suitors may back away while they want to move on. Of course it depends on the extent of injury, but I'd be willing to trade a temporary loss of service for more return in picks, if I still get the original player in the end.

My only hesitation would be if the prognosis was worse, such as over half the season lost, for example, or if the recovery back to what he was before was quite iffy ... but I can understand others who would not want to wait it out.

In our conversations, we might tend to make size distinctions between the bigger and smaller of those, but the Mavs use of wings just seem to be less about size and more about the ability to guard up and down the lineup, more or less. Especially the ability to guard the perimeter.

Where would GP fit? Not sure. At 6-3, he is certainly "small" in comparison to their other wings. But he can defend the perimeter, at least against the smaller quicker types. Don't know whether that means he would be replacing JB, a creator who is 6-1, if JB leaves and he is brought in. Then again, my impression is that the news about GP is overstated, so this feels moot.

I think the distinction is easy.  A bigger wing is who you assign to guard Kawai or Lebron.  A smaller wing is who you assign to guard Lillard or Morant.  Bullock can guard 1-3 well, but he's not multi-positional enough to take on the big boys.  I see Burks as closer to Bullock than DFS, though he kind of strides the line.

I've probably been on the possibility that Brunson might leave longer and stronger than anyone here and have been positive on the S&T package including Burks the entire time.  Between the surgery, the drafting of Hardy and the GPII rumor (the first indication of Mav interest in a FA that I've seen), my read of the tea leaves is turning more toward Noel and/or Reddish.  Who knows if that interest in GPII is real, misdirection or (as you point out) misleading headline writing.  But if I had to guess, after writing dozens of posts about Burks S&T's, my guess would be it is less likely to be Burks now than it was two weeks ago.
John Wall for the TxMLE??

Would there be any interest in trying to help Houston out in a 4-way???

Something with the basis of:
JB to NY
NY ballast to Orl
THJ to Orl
Boban to Orl

Powell to Hou
T. Ross to Hou

Wall to Dal

Orlando would need a tip for taking on some salary... Not a desired outcome, but this would at least keep the team on a similar level to the team that finished the WCF.

If I had one bit of lagniappe to try and squeeze out of the deal it would be to try and expand it to land Isaac, but I don't see a way to get to the $48+ million in tradable salary it necessitates.

You are clearly only here to antagonize people. A couple questions though: do you really think anyone here cares at all what you have to say? Do you think you're triggering or agitating anyone with this? Do you think you'll actually change anyone's mind? No one here knows who you are or cares if you think they're wrong. It's like that Don Draper meme, "[we] don't think about you at all". Bet you think you showed us, but truth is no one cares at all lol.
You know what I find interesting in this and SH’s post? All year the type of post you’re replying to has been typed out and has gotten 5 likes. Now, there are no likes and the poster is deemed a troll.
Burkes' injury is interesting.  Without his injury, I think he would have a lot of interest from other teams.   Knicks may even get a small asset back.  He has had multiple leg surgeries so those teams who may have been interested may want to hold right now.  Especially if he is out until training camp.

Noel is also interesting.  If you catch him at the right time, you really feel his defensive presence when he is on the floor.  But he is always hurt and his numbers are very pedestrian.   He too only has one year left on his contract, but at almost 10 million that is no mans land for non elite centers.

I would imagine they could find takers for both, but it may cost them some kind of asset.   It will be interesting.

I see what you are saying, but I don't think the Mavs "shopping list" is quite as specific as all that. That is to say, I think the shopping list is "wing" because I think they would be happy with ANY additional 2-way playoff-playable guy who can help the others defend, especially in space. Switchability means you regularly end up on various sizes anyhow.

Wall is already a done deal as I understand it. Free agent.

Dragic, yet another piece of evidence that he's part of the future landscape. Whether or not Brunson is back.

I believe you're correct. They have to let Hartenstein walk.  He'll get his share of bidders I'm sure.

Can’t make myself join you on the notion that Jalen is jilting us. Not for these Knicks. He’ll be miserable there.

This is Brunson's opportunity to run his own team. To some players, that's more important whether that is looked upon as being selfish or not. I understand he's giving up a winning situation if he leaves, but as stated this may be his only chance not to play second fiddle to Luka.
