Interesting bit at the 24:00 mark regarding the Utah fire sale.

Bogdanovich most likely to fetch a "late first", but even that is dubious without an extension, but agreeing to an extension would be difficult because he's probably hoping to have a great season and exceed market expectations on his next (last) big deal.

Clarkson probably won't fetch a 1st - more likely a couple of 2nds (sign me up!)

No mention of Conley's value, whatsoever, though he and Beasley were both listed as fire sale candidates. My read of the discussion was that they were both viewed as less valuable than the two names discussed above, so...

There you have it - it's possible that one of these dudes is gettable without giving up a first.
Luke adams of hoopsrumors did a breakdown of utah trade candidates and had Bojan as a FRP rental. Clarkson as a trade sweetener add on fetching minor assets. Conley as having slight negative value. Not many teams can/will take on $46 million over the next 2 years
Jazz don't like the Knicks and Bog wants to play with Luka.

Interesting.  I just have trouble seeing it.   Zach Lowe brought up names like PHX and Miami.  Both could offer late first round picks.  Maybe Toronto too.   Mavs would have trouble matching salaries too.

Just as a theoretical, would Bojan start here?
Hmmm, I don’t think Bojan moves the needle enough to warrant wanting him at that price. If he was a plus defender I could see it. All these 1 year contracts tempting our plans for the future.

Man, it would put so much pressure on DFS and McGee to start as our only plus defenders, I just don’t see it.
I like Bog.

I don’t think he would start.  The only paths to his salary level are through THJ or Bertans.  I see him taking the projected THJ role here with THJ as part of the outgoing.  BB is a better creator than Hardaway.  But, I don’t see Dallas giving up a pick for a straight THJ/Bojan swap.

So, what if you add things?  I’d definitely give a pick if Vanderbilt were in the deal.  I also wonder what Kidd thinks of THT.  Two separate deals…Powell for THT and THJ for Bogdanovic?  I wonder what would that cost in terms of draft equity.  Bojan probably wants an extension from any team he’s traded to.

Unfortunately it looks like Utah is looking for expiring filler and a first. That leaves Powell as the only realistic option.
Who's our third ballhandler if we waste our wad on Bojan?

Yeah it is tough to find a match there.  I do feel sometime during the season Powell and Frank could attract interest for a team struggling who has someone with multiple years left on their contract.  The question is how much an improvement this player would make and more importantly would Cuban open up his wallet.
I'd be down for that. I have a feeling we are going to see Schroeder added for an extra ball handler. Kidd seemed to like him with the Lakers. He'd be a good extra ball handler. Kidd could definitely keep his ego in check.

Fair question.

Although, it's kinda the same question as we've been wondering already, isn't it. Who is it if we don't do something???

My thinking on the UT guys keeps coming back to the same general place as DS mentioned above -- I'm trying to figure what can be done without a pick, I'm thinking THJ has to be part of the outgoing (in order to open up minutes), and I'm left wondering is there something more workable if it's a bigger package.

But I'm not sure there's enough of an upgrade in any of what I can see to pursue --
a) Conley? He seems like he could be the answer as to skills/position if it all broke right, and the cost would be friendly, but I think risk-reward is way negative in light of the huge contract (I find it hard to trust he won't be a 2-year albatross),
b) Bogey or Clarkson? I don't think simply swapping out THJ for one of them will add enough upside to be worth what such a swap is likely to cost in side assets, and both are potential rentals rather than additions to an ongoing core, and
 c) I don't see a minutes fit for having THJ still here, while doing a deal that adds Carkson (via Powell+), and it will be that much harder to offload THJ is you put him in mothballs.

I can't imagine UTA being particularly enthralled with a THJ+Powell+Green+2nd's package for Conley+Bogdanovic.

Maybe I'm overvaluing them, but I figured both could fetch late firsts at the least.
THT's stock has dropped a bunch but he played his best games for the Lakers last season without LeBron.  If I were Utah, I'd probably try to feature him somewhat and try to boost his trade value.

I don't think Utah would have any interest in THJ but I do think Clarkson would be a pretty massive upgrade in terms of fit.  Clarkson is better at getting buckets for himself and is used to being a sixth man.  THJ is best when he's being setup and in the starting lineup.  Clarkson would make the sting from losing Brunson feel a whole lot better.

I'm pretty confident JC will have a significant impact, and I'm hoping somehow a third team has interest in THJ or DP and 2nds.

But at this point, I think the Mavs would just rather add than trade, I know Dennis Schroder seems like the hot name nowadays..

.. but has anyone know what Lou Williams is up to these days? I think he would be good for the supposed Dragic role the Mavs want.
I do see a lot of Fultz trades on trade forums. Not sure if he’s gettable or not but he doesn’t seem to be a FRP asset (edit: he’s a large negative actually, might be able to get assets by taking him on). If he’s playable at least to the level of injury insurance, might we also be able to extract another distressed asset in Isaac? Would we even want them?
(09-09-2022, 07:15 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: [ -> ]Fultz

I think his non shooting is a problem. While he is a better playmaker, it would be difficult to play him next to Luka. Only so many minutes available without Luka and he is paid way too much for such a small role. So it is a no from me. I don't think Orland is anywhere near to paying assets to get rid of guys. They are not trying to be competitive yet, imho.

(09-09-2022, 07:15 AM)ItsGoTime Wrote: [ -> ]Isaac

Another player with huge question marks. He was great in those few games he played. The problem of course is, that he is unavailable most of the time. I think it is very optmistic to think his availability would dramatically improve. There is also a bunch of of court stuff he brings. I think THJ+Bertans bring more to this team than Fultz and Isaac would and are not more difficult to move in a trade for the really right fit.

In any case I don't see, why Orlando with where they are as a team, would see any value in THJ+Bertans over what they have now.

If we are going to send Timmy to Utah for salary matching, I would rather have Conley.  He should not cost additional assets, is a better fit (playmaking and defense) for year one and in year two he could be a useful good sized expiring contract for a trade.

No argument here.  But, the rumor of the day says we are interested in Bogdanovic.  So, trying to make sense of it.

Maybe it isn't Timmy to Utah.  Maybe it is Bertans and Green for Bogdanovic and Butler and the bench becomes Maxi/Wood/Mr. Bojangles and Hardaway with Butler becoming a developmental more D-oriented version of the Burke role.  That bench would be pretty unstoppable.
As a guess, Utah would rather send out more players than receive with the difference made up in Draft Capital.
The way I would see a trade working with Ainge would involve moving a multi-year player (THJ/Bertans) to a 3rd team that values them, where they send a player (of lower value) with fewer yrs remaining to Utah and then multiple players are sent from Utah and clears up a bit of roster log-jam for them.
