Ben Simmons in theory is a great choice.

IN THEORY!

He's sucked major donkey butt this year on defense.
San Antonio still has a ton of cap space...

I know, my guy. No argument.

But, just saying...the Mavs next 5 years seems to be about build an "All NBA in theory" team, so...maybe they lean in all the way on that?

I know you agree, but do you really think Ben is reliable enough to say "Oh yeah he has the mental fortitude to guard KD" ?

80 mil for 2 years on a prayer seems like awful roster building.

Trying him at $35-40 million is the issue.  If the Nets would eat Bertans AND send assets back, I could get on board.  It would open up avenues to other deals using those assets.

It would also lock Cuban (assuming a Kyrie extension) into a LT mess for the next few years which would be the #1 reason I don't see it being within the realm of possibilities.

If the Nets are throwing assets in with him, dealing him to Utah is a lot cleaner for BRK but they would have to deal with Ainge ripping their guts out.

Oh, I'd need Bertans AND McGee to be outgoing to even have the conversation.

To be clear, I'm not even really suggesting this, just thinking out loud.

For all we know, Simmons and Kyrie hate each other. No idea.

That's great for Philly. A lot of teams liked McDaniels. Maybe we can pry his brother from Minnesota.

Grayson Allen likely and then some more
Including this season...

Simmons has 112M left.
Bertans/THJ have 91M left with a Bertans buyout.

If other teams ask for two 1st rounders as compensation, maybe the Nets would be willing to entertain it. I´d guess the Nets would ask for Bertans + Wood/Powell as expiring deals. Maybe you do it, if you get an extra first rounder.

Then try and flip the Nets 1st, Mavs first and THJ for a real difference maker?

Mavs would need Seth also. We'd be sending out a lot of shooting with Bertans  Big Grin

I would officially do Wood for Collins, straight up. No idea if that's even a possibility, but I know we've debated it around here a ton.

Now, after the trade, I think you opt for the guy who's more consistent and don't look back.
Poor John Collins. Just take Bertans + Powell and be done with it, stupid Hawks. You won the Young/Reddish for Luka trade already.

Assuming Kyrie loves Ben and Kidd thinks there is a role for him, it could be another swing at taking on a distressed asset.

Wood/Bertans/McGee for Simmons/Cam Johnson.  If the Durant deal gets finalized, you can swing two deals with McGee for Johnson and Bertans/Wood for Simmions.

Powell/Simmons
Johnson/Maxi
Bullock/Green
Luka/THJ
Kyrie/Hardy

That's a lot of shooting around Luka/Kyrie.

Say that was a real framework for a deal; what else does BRK have to send to DAL to get it done.  I want our pick back.  I want another 1st.  I want a mess of 2nd rounders too as those are clearly needed to do these deals around the fringes.

Ok stop making sense and convincing me to take on The Young Socialite Ben Simmons.

It makes a lot of sense. Cam+Simmons for our meh contracts on paper would be a huge boon.

If we could turn THJ + Powell + Wood + Bertans into Ben Simmons and John Collins, I think we´d be the favourite for the title. I bet you get a few ring chasers with that core. Dragic, Bitadze and Westbrook to stick it to LeBron and KD at the same time. Big Grin

Doncic/Westbrook
Irving/Dragic
Green/Bullock
Collins/Kleber
Simmons/Bitadze

Let´s just run everybody off the floor, including Luka. Big Grin
