Either the Mavs are stalling to possibly make a better move (more likely Collins than Siakim, tbh), or they're being stupid. I liked Powell's play at the end of the year as well, but his contract is still an albatross that it would be helpful to get out of.

Or simple negotiation tactics through the media. They obviously ask for Green/Terry. They even interviewed both of them. If the Mavs are reasonably high on both, is it worth to get a 35 yr old on a 19 mill deal? Or do you try to bank on getting another Guard in the buyout market, maybe Dragic. Who can trade for Dragic with his 19 mill?

Or just hope it works with Brunson. Bullock gives you the option to move THJ back to the bench, and have more firepower from the bench. If KP is improved, you might be able to get away with a Brunson + THJ + KP trio in non Luka minutes in the playoffs.

I think they want to do more stuff after the trade

They lost Bazemore. Added Porter+Bjelicia and their 2 lotto picks. I don't think they do have any more roster spots, though a quick look at spotrac and they have several unguaranteed players they can waive.

Iggy would be interesting on the Mavs even though he looked kinda washed this season.
If the Raptors want to keep Dragic we can wait one more year. He will be a free agent. Mavs will have the MLE or tax-player MLE. No need to empty the asset cabinet for him.

Yep.

If the Raps take DP and TB? Great, give me Dragic!

If the Raps want one of the few Mavs assets? They can go pound sand.
So the Raps don’t want to buy out Dragic and Dallas doesn’t want to trade Powell? I wonder if the endgame is a S&T of Redick for $14mm plus cash considerations to reduce it even more. They can then just cut Redick but still save a lot of money over keeping Dragic on the cap.
Yeah Dragic still has 2, maybe 3 years left in his career. He can just sign here as a FA next year...especially since we don't know if Brunson will re-sign. In the meantime, go get Avery Bradley for this year and call it an offseason (although he probably ends up going to LA for cheap)
To add a new idea. After watching Luka in the olympics. Can he play full time PF on defense. That´s how they used him most of the time. It would allow the Mavs to put more of their wing/guard sized shooters on the floor next to him. Something like Bullock/THJ/DFS/Doncic/KP.
If that´s an option I would try to get another wing sized player with the TPE. Maybe someone like Hart.

that's the lineup that's been in my head, pending more moves
Could always look to add a little more defense on a cheap deal with one if Justice Winslow or Frank Ntilikina.

I saw a post where Ntilikina has had more fouls than points in the Olympics.

If rather have DSJ, than Frankie.

Love this question. I suspect the best way to attack it is to ask which NBA power forwards would you fear matching Luka up against.

Anthony Davis
Kevin Durant
Giannis Antetokounmpo

That’s the entire list, isn’t it? Maybe (maybe) add Domantas Sabonis? Julius Randle? Guys from the East we’ll never see in the playoffs.

F-Smith may need to take the PGs this year, which is probably a good plan anyway.

Been dreaming of the 4 wing lineup with Luka the PF on D

Luke looks a little like a dough boy, but his natural strength and girth would definitely work.

Imagine if he got serious about his body and lifting weights....

DFS at the 4 helps him on offense but then is a little tough on D but he does like those offensive boards. Anyways Mavs would have Maxi as an option or Powell if he ends up staying.

This is interesting and I buy it.

Raptors have the asset mavs want.
The asset wants to be a mav but raptors have no obligation to make nice for Dragic, they can test the market or keep him.
Mavs can get Dragic now for a higher price, or they can wait and see if good things happen.
Waiting patiently could lead to being in the exact same position we are in now and no Dragic, or Dragic later for less, or Dragic for nothing.
Mavs should send Powell to Pacers, Lamb goes to Raps with Mavs filler for Dragic.
I like this plan based on 2 conditions:
A: Rick really likes what DP brings and decides he needs it
B: Lamb is really on the way out

The other (nagging) part of me though says - that IF we could move DP for Lamb would we rather have Lamb as another wing since we seem to be going for the complete set?
The fact that the Mavs couldn't get Richaun Holmes befuddles me.  Did the Mavs even pursue him?  By all accounts, the largest contract that Sacramento could have signed Holmes was 4 years 46.5 million not the reported 4 years 55 million (which by the way is nothing in this market...all things considered).  I would have loved to pair Holmes with KP.  He tweeted that he loved Sacramento and did a hashtag "4 more years" and promptly deleted it.  He's an unrestricted free agent.  Is there any way Dallas could get him while still acquiring Dragic?  This offseason which is currently a "B" in my opinion would be an "A+" if we could get Holmes to agree to sign with Dallas.

We need a PF.  I think Dallas had some interest in Bobby Portis.  I personally think Holmes is better and would fit like a glove in Big D.

Yeah, that's confirmed, pretty much.

I have read some things (message boards, nothing concrete enough to post) that lead me to believe the Mavs did give Holmes a try, but didn't want him badly enough, for whatever reason, to convince them to operate under the cap and use space on him. Instead, they tried to get him through a sign and trade, and I'm honestly unclear as to whether it was he or SAC who shut that down.

Either way, they clearly didn't want to operate under, or maybe the targets who would've been worth doing that gave them the brush off.
