He had to type this up real quick before starting on his write up for MavsBoard

I disagree on the Holmes/Bullock option.  Holmes is a significantly better player than Bullock, and the only cost would have been WCS.  The offense would have been better simply because Holmes is better than Powell (but still ugly if KP was going to continue to post up when we have a P&R big on the floor) and the defense would have been way better.  We also would have been way more protected from KP/Maxi injury (a constant concern).  There would be concerns on how those two work defensively com playoff time, but I feel like Holmes just moves the needle so much more than Bullock it would have been worth a shot.

To be fair, we don't know that it was the Mavs who didn't have interest in Holmes. It might've been the other way around.

I seriously doubt it.  He wanted to be underpaid at Sacto?  If we operate under the cap and let WCS walk and reverse the schedule on THJ, we could have offered him at least 15.  I would be stunned he would turn that down to get a lot less money and stay in Sacto.  They could not pay him any more than they did (early bird).

“I’m officially concerned”. I’m not, keep him out longer than required just like KP. His back is what kept him from playing up to his standards in the playoffs. Keep that back well rested!

Figure out how much time he needs to get ready for the playoffs, and keep him out until then

It is the major reason why Maxi and Bullock should probably come off the bench and both have their minutes watched closely.    Maxi is really valuable to this team but he is a guy who is really limited if not 100%.

Is it really that concerning when the team themselves said Maxi will be out for 2-4 weeks? By that interval we have another 2 weeks before we should start to feel concerned.

Wasn't the report 7-10 days?

I agree, there's nothing really concerning or unusual about this particular injury situation. But, it sure does suck that it happened right after he reminded us all how well he fits into this situation when healthy. I don't think he had a game that good after the all star break last season.
Keep the back healthy at all costs.
B.Hield would be a great pickup in my opinion, he's one of the best shooters in the game and Kings were desperate to get out of his contract ... Another option that I like and think "realistic" would be to call Houston.
Gordon / Theis (TPE) for Powell / Burke .. (Houston saves a ton of money ..).
Then call Spurs and offer WCS for Forbes. we have an absurdly good depth left.
Theis/KP/Bullock/Jalen/Luka..
Maxi/DFS/THJ/Gordon/Frank..
+ 2 Boban specialists (unstoppable in specific situations) Forbes (a flamethrower) .. 2 MBrown / Green prospects and a 3D wing at SBrown ...

Wasn't the Mavs officially, but I remembered seeing that 2-4 week recovery time. It was from this tweet posted here.

Speculation at the end of the day since its not from the Mavs officially, but 2-4 weeks isn't unheard of for an oblique strain. Speaking from personal experience.

Honestly Hield+Thies would radically transform this team. And ideally it shouldn't cost much of the core of Luka/KP/THJ/DFS/Maxi/Brunson. Only reason why I believe that is that the Kings were more than ready to give up on Hield for Kuzma+Harrell. Kuzma at the time was seen as nothing more as a 6-7th guy, so that's the value we should try to replicate.

Perhaps a 3 team trade between HOU+SAC+DAL where each team gets a little something they want.

Mavs send Powell+Brown+2 2nds to the Kings. Then Green+WCS to HOU.

Mavs get Hield+Theis.

Luka/Brunson/Burke
THJ/Hield/
DFS/Bullock
KP/Maxi
Theis/Boban

That 10 man rotation looks strong. Probably a bit pie in the sky from me though, but I really do think those two guys are the most gettable role players out there right now and both of them would radically transform the bench for this team.
