Seems like they wanted to keep their firsts more than they wanted Nance.
Kleber 4 Life!

I'm going to be the contrarian here and say in 3 years time that CLE got an absolute steal for Lauri. And we'll be kicking the Mavs for not trying to give him as much money as possible.

Just think Lauri still has a lot of juice left to give. He was a prime buy-low candidate.

Yep.

Though I wanted Dragic more than LM. Both wouldn't have been bad though if we could have swung it. I think LM is poised for a great season after escaping Chicago

Ok, but...he wasn't bought "low"...he cost a LOT.

But they didn't really buy low....

Well I was pushing so hard for pairing Porzingis with Jarrett Allen, I guess Markkanen/Allen will give us some answer regarding that pairing too, even if they are slightly damaged by being fed by Sexland rather than Luka.
Could someone direct me to the "confident in getting Dragic" news please? Have been/am currently too busy to go back and look through pages.

Do you think THJ cost a lot?

Did you think Lavine and Randle were overpaid at $18-19M last year?
Good thing we were able to keep all our centers in case of emergency in a long season...

Markannen isn't as good as any of those guys.

Absolutely, those guys cost a lot, but all of them seem vastly more worth the cost to me. It's only my opinion.

Just saying, the Cavs did NOT "buy low" on LM. It could still turn into a solid investment, sure, but I'm far from confident that it will, and I'm personally glad another team took the risk at that level. And, since KP is here another year, at least, Cleveland probably had more incentive to take that risk.

There is no Dragic trade that makes any sense, unless of course they piss away more (draft) assets. So it becomes a matter of the Raptors being willing to buy him out and him actually signing with the Mavs afterwards, which I don´t think is a slam dunk either.

He´s exactly as good as those guys, when they signed those contracts and everybody called them bad stats losers. Shy

I suppose NOW it seems like they paid a lot. But that's why he's a "buy low" candidate in my mind. I feel like he will exceed that price range and show he was worth near 100M and that his 17M average will be seen as a huge bargain.

Lauri was putting up close to 20 and 10 as a sophomore before Boylen destroyed him. I think if he's given a real shot he can get back there easily. A 20 and 10 guy with range is getting paid closer to Collins/KP money.

Ok, so IF he becomes the guy you think he is, then we should revisit.

But, even then, I wonder how he'd become that guy here with the KP project very much alive (you know how I feel about that, but it is what it is) and doubling down with TWO guys in that role, neither of which are sure things at this point, seems bananas to me.

Tell me KP is outgoing in this or some other scenario and I might completely change my tune. But, if KP is locked in for this season in any scenario, which seems to be the case, I think any Mavs interest in LM had to be limited to true financial value, probably starting at 3rd big money, with the possibility of growing into a larger role long-term, rather than "produce right now - we're paying you a lot."
Really sad that all of the guys I've wanted to pair with KP gets traded for a rival West contender. Covignton, Gordon and now Nance. Only one I still have faith in is Clarke. Fair enough all of them got traded for picks (which we lack at the moment). Guess it's Kleber/DFS on the frontcourt AGAIN for the 3rd year in a row with KP. We sure don't make his life any easier.

Yeah, if there's anything to lament about the news today for Mavs fans, I'd say it's Nance, personally.

Kind of crazy to think that after everything that's been said very publicly on the situation.
Lauri's deal is only guaranteed 6 of 18 mil in the last year which makes it a better looking contract.
