So here is my CROSS MY FINGERS prediction...

Dallas holds up Toronto on Lowry with the threat of renouncing THJ, et al. and clearing > 30 million... Instead of losing Lowry for nothing Toronto agrees in principle to a S&T deal around pieces Dallas is not upset at dealing - Lowry doesn't officially sign and the trade is not official until day 3-4 of FA.

In the mean-time (IN OFFICIAL ORDER)
Dallas signs THJ to slightly less than market for 1 yr; call it 1yr $13 million (This gives THJ a no-trade contract)
According to calculations Dallas could get up to 33-34 million IF they renounce THJ and WCS AND the J-Rich TE.
These same calculations leave Dallas: 33 - 4 (WCS) - 13 (TJH); so easily around 16 million in space -

Dallas signs Richaun Holmes for 3 yrs $50.4 million starting at $16 million.

Dallas then completes the Kyle Lowry trade: Powell; WCS; Burke and Jalen Brunson + Dallas sends a conditional (but unprotected) 2025 First, and conditional rights to a SINGLE pick swap in '24, '26 or '27 (pending the pick in '23 going to NY and the '25 going to Toronto) That trade package salary total aggregates with 125%+100k to a salary of $25.5 million to start for Lowry which puts him at 3 years 80.325 million.

Dallas walks into the season with:
Lowry  Terry
Luka    THJ    Hinton
DFS    Green
KP      Maxi    Bey
Holmes

Dallas would still have the Room Exception to outbid minimum salary offers in helping flesh out the roster...

Not the playmaker Derozan is, but has decent court vision and passing skills.

And shoot the 3 ball.

So here's the Mavs secondary option after Lowry.

I like Fournier, but I don't think the Mavs get him if they're going to keep THJ.

THJ isn't signing a 1-year deal.

Re JRich: Zach Lowe and Bobby Marks also think he’ll opt into his player option.

I don't see why he wouldn't. Atlanta has things popping down there.

Recorded 07/29. Now we know what Cuban was doing on draft day.
As a bit of an off topic, our old pal Dominique Jones, aka DoJo, aka scout team DWade, aka the missing piece is playing in some sort of basketball tournament that is currently airing on ESPN.

Yes
I have to be honest I am not a huge Powell fan.   He seems like a guy you are thrilled to find and have him develop and give him a second contract at around 10 millionish and he continues to get better.   He is not a guy I would be thrilled with at 20 million per year.

I think the Ball sweepstakes are too late to get into.  I think there has been a lot of movement there.  Some team is going to get him to sign an offer (at high dollars) and there is a good chance he New Orleans swallows hard and matches.

I still like my Derozan angle.   Maybe a Holmes/Hardaway signing and maybe a way to find away to get Graham.   Not sure if that will be possible, but it appears Charlotte won't fight too hard to keep him.

Powell will be hugely overpaid as Portland just can't afford to let him go if they want to keep Lillard.

In addition to defense, which should be the main conversation, here's why I'm confident DeRozan is a bad idea:

YES, the Mavs need another player who can handle the ball and create (if not five more of them), and YES, DeRozan certainly solves that. BUT, unless the plan is to make that player the primary ball-handler, the incoming player must first be able to play off of Luka! DeRozan absolutely falls way short there, because he can't shoot!

Luka needs space.
I rather have Josh Hart than Lonzo Ball, especially at the price difference.

Norman Powell? Eww.
Norman Powell will stay with the Blazers. They have no choice, but to overpay him, because they cannot replace him. Don´t get into that bidding war.

Lonzo Ball will stay with the Pelicans, unless they find a S&T they love.

Idea for the Pelicans:

Ball to Bulls
Markkanen to Spurs
DeRozan to Pelicans

Makes a shitload of sense for all three teams.

Together with Lowry, right? Big Grin

Porzingis, Boban, WCS and Brown. That´s four guys that can ONLY play center.

I have enough faith in the new MBT that they won´t do that. So come on Stein. Learn how Twitter works. If you make educated guesses, you need to connect the dots, go all-in and Nostradamus that they will not pick up the WCS option.
