How can Luka and Dragic be doing this type of stuff all summer and not play together?  Be such a ridiculous tease if they didn't.

They have to know something. It has felt that way for weeks, honestly.

Am I the only one wondering what the Mavericks have been getting out of God Shamgod? He's supposed to be this ball-handling savant, yet only 2-3 people on the team can be trusted to handle the ball when defended.

Clearly nothing.  I haven't seen a single crossover from Boban.

Serbian national. Serbian national team coach. Best Serbian player in the world? Jokic

KP is the second star we brought in this offseason(hopefully). KP either plays like a star or gets traded

June we have our picks. We have expiring contracts(Powell, Maxi, Brown, Boban, Burke). Plus the TPE. It’s the best time for us to make our moves

Look at the Simmons situation where Morey may have messed up his shot at Dame. Patience can be our friend here.

The more I reflect on this, the less sure I am that this binary option is a given.

I suspect it's what was speculated weeks ago which would be that Moses Brown is part of the outgoing package needed to get Dragic over here but we can't trade him until October 1 which is when his recently traded player exception expires meaning that's when he can be included with other players in a trade. Still just speculation at this point but it would make sense

What are the other options though? Look at the highest players in the league. They’re either stars on contenders or a problem status player who has been traded. Looking at the max players McCollum and G Hayward are about the worst level player you would want on that big of a deal. Wall, Kemba, Wiggins, Dangelo russell....all traded.

I genuinely would like to know in what scenario we don’t: 1) trade him because of fit/ineffectiveness/injury or 2) keep him and build around KP and Luka

Poor results with 2 different coaches would signal that’s not the problem. Not having a healthy offseason is no longer an excuse. I’m not sure what else there is to sort through

I like the one where we trade Terry plus $5 million for one of Toronto’s two-way players and Toronto buys out Dragic.  The Toronto two-way replaces Hinton, Dragic takes the open roster spot created by Terry’s departure.  Dallas eats a portion of the Dragic buyout with the cash they send.

I suspect Dragic would have to eat some money also to get Toronto back under the tax.

I can see a scenario where KP gets a little better, and they find a little better fit for him. He improves to a degree, but not enough for the team to make a quantum leap. But they still keep him, due to a combination of (1) they're still tantalized by his potential and not quite ready to give up on him, and (2) they can't get anyone better. I could totally see that happening, actually.
The problem with the "well we will just trade KP" scenario is that he will have even less value than he does now.  That's why I was so on board with the Markkanen idea.  Trading KP isn't a scenario we want to be in.

Conspiracy theory.

1. Moses Brown looked miserable in the introductory press conference.
2. Toronto has the on-going tampering investigation hanging over their head, so they might play it very conservatively announcing trade agreements before they can be officially executed, therefore no "deal agreed in principle"-announcement.
3. I am not actively searching Dwight Powell workout pics, but usually every summer the Mavs wax lyrically about Dwight Powell being the first back in a gym in Dallas. I haven´t seen him or the story yet.

That would all add up to some Dwight+Brown for Dragic frame work.
Would be a bad look to introduce Brown just to trade him.  And strangely enough, I'm not super keen on trading him.

Powell I'd drive to the airport though.

Either way, I do hope we get Dragic as that would put the secondary ball handler debate to rest.  Would put us firmly in the west IMO.
Pretty sure they are allowed to decide on a trade and announce it despite having to wait for Brown to be trade eligible.
So don’t think that would be the only hold up.
I think the Raptors want a 1st and the Mavs don’t want to give them one.
Both are just waiting for the other to blink.

Plus Raptors probably don’t want Powell’s 2 yr salary. So maybe a third team is required to take Powell but Mavs don’t want to give another asset for say OKC to take Powell.

Thank you for your response, sir

Maybe you’re right. It has felt like the scenario you describe is where we are today. Maybe the gray area is KP fixes a few areas of his game and proves he’s worth waiting on(even if he’s still not all star level).

This makes a ton of sense

Its also not the best look for Dragic letting Luka post pictures of him and Luka together. After his recent comments about the Raptors, and him back tracking what he said.

Unless he knows more about the entire situation. Otherwise you would think he would lay low, and not pour more oil into the fire. Don't think these things going to help, if camp Duffy looking for a buyout near the deadline.

Imagine Ben Simmons posting pictures with Wolves players tomorrow Big Grin
