We can only wish this is truly an omen. (Powell, Burke, Brown is a legal trade for Dragic.)

It does kind of feel that way, though it is natural to focus on stars and the shiny new toys.

It wouldn't shock me to see some kind of a 3 for 2 or 2 for 1 deal as a third team in a deal for a star (Simmons or otherwise).  We have the ability to take back $16mm between the TPE and $5mm spread on a deal and still be under the tax.  That $16mm might be valuable to teams trying to do a deal and stay (or get) under the tax.

Now, we just need to figure out what we might want (positionally and financially) should we be called upon to join in on such a deal.

If KP was the 5 then Maxi of DFS would be starting but this seems to hint to me Powell would start next to KP which to me is optimal for both players and for Luka who needs a roll man.

This conversation is now taking place in three threads.  Pretty clearly this is the choice to be made.  The reason I created the thread I did is that I perceived that 90+ percent of the board had either DFS or Maxi starting next to KP.  Same was true for almost all media members as well.  It is certainly a viable lineup if you are willing to be flexible (DFS starts against small-ball teams and Maxi against teams with bigger players).

The point of my thread was to say "not so fast".  There is another version of this that makes sense from a roster construction standpoint and given Kidd's history.  At the time, it was not the foregone conclusion of most of the board as evidenced by the six pages of responses.
Yesterday's article in the DMN mentioned Tim Grgurich was back with the Mavs

Tim Grgurich being involved with the team again is GREAT news

I remember the defense that he installed for the championship run paid huge dividends

Seems a bit like an all-star assistant coaching staff

It's probably nothing, but I can't help but notice that around the 4-minute mark Kidd mentioned the "two new players that we brought on board."

In other random news, Moses Brown can be aggregated in a deal on Friday.
