I think Luka once joked that maybe he should try taking step back free throws.  Always thought that was a funny comment.

I think Luka´s shooting motion wind up is more suited to further distance. Usually when he comes into FT range (or closer) during play, he´ll just use some sort of floater, not his regular shot. So maybe he´d indeed do better, if he took a step back or just shot it as a running floater. Is that legal?

As long as he stays in the shooting area, he can probably do whatever he wants.

Super interesting comment from THJ....

Didn't see the game, but from the context of the tweet it seems straightforward to me. I read it like he's saying the preseason games are valuable when you're making major system changes, rather than brushing up on what your team did last season, and that the Mavs playing well (which I assume they did, given the score) is a good sign that they're picking up the new stuff quickly.
First quarter was kind of ugly for both sides. Unfortunately, the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quarters were ugly for CHA as well. They were missing some starters (Hayward, Rozier, etc.) and lost another during the game, but I think a D3 college could have played a better game.

One of the images that stands out to me is the number of steals DAL had (12) and the CHA turnovers (24). It seemed like stretches for CHA where they had either a TO or DAL got a steal. Shooting 27.4% yields up a lot of dREB as well.

At times it looked like the Globetrotters vs. the Washington Generals.

This was such a blowout, I don't know how to weigh the performance. Was this any indication of DAL potential? Or was it just "one of those nights" for a short handed CHA team? I remember blowing out LACs w/o Kawhi early last season, but we know how that ended in the POs.

I'd like to see it all in context and tend to agree with what you said, but KP's interview on ESPN post game seemed to be direct shots at Rick for sure.

"Getting the ball in more comfortable places" and all that jazz.

The age of analytics and Carlisle never really seemed to mesh.  Analytics should be a tool in the toolbelt and even if that tool should be heavily utilized, it should never be the end all be all.  It always felt like Carlisle was an old school guy who just went YOLO with analytics even if they never completely had his buy in.

Just watched the interview. I don't think he was taking shots at Rick, I just think he was answering the questions honestly. He said something like, "Yeah, I like where I'm getting the ball in this system, and we had moved away from that in the previous system." That seems like a great, honest answer that doesn't seem like "taking a shot" to me. Just my opinion.

But we could do the body language thing   Big Grin ..... did you see that little doll that looked like Rick that he pulled out of his pocket and poked with a needle?

No, but I did notice the dart board in the visitors locker room with Rick's face on it.  Felt pretty unnecessary if you ask me.

Off topic, but do you think KP will have extra juice in the 2022 finals, when the Mavs face the Pacers?

I'M ONLY HALF JOKING
I noticed the KP kind of pulled back when asked about what changes Luka is making this year. Looked (to me) as if he was uncomfortable commenting on what Luka is doing developmentally.

Apart from that he seemed to try and answer honestly.

To be fair, I would be super annoyed with those questions too, especially after a game where Luka looked incredibly human.

That’s hilarious! Thanks for making my day!

Regarding Luka’s lower FT% here, it seems obvious to me that the kid is getting harassed all game long. Would love to see a stat showing the difference in FT% when a guy has to pick himself up off the court vs. following a touch call. It really isn’t the same. Physical defense in the NBA is the equivalent of a punishing run game in the NFL. It affects everything, and doubly so in the 4th Q.
Interesting part about his FT percentages. The best FT shooting month are always november and december. He starts of in the 80% + range and declines as the season progresses. Lack of conditioning? Not enough practise?

Free throw consitency are about the legs, right? He carries a heavy load. He's gotta learn how to manage himself and have gas for the 4th. If he does that, he probably has legs for free throws.
The camera can play tricks on these type of pictures, but it is so so so important Zion stays as lean as possible.  If he is having trouble in his early 20's, that is not a good sign as he gets older.   He is a guy that needs to go on that serious eating plan.

I had no problem with that. If I was responsible for coaching players how to do interviews, lesson #1 would be to dodge all questions about anyone but yourself. It's a classic trap designed to fish for a controversial quote. And it's also incredibly lazy and disrespectful to get a guy on camera only to ask him a question about a more popular player. Did the reporter even watch the game or just have a Luka question in the hopper for anyone who agreed to talk?

Doesn’t AD get asked about Lebron? CJ asked about Lillard? Aren’t most players asked about their team’s star player?
