Tyson: Agreed. Dallas was stupid for not keeping him.

Barnes: Low-info morons like LeBron talk about him being traded during a game, but we all know the real story. And Dallas literally gave him away for nothing to a team of his choice who signed him to a huge deal using his Bird rights. They did him a massive favor.

DAJ: Wait what? The guy who made us a national laughing stock, was welcomed back regardless, and is so bad he's unplayable even on the freaking Lakers? What's the beef here?

DSJ: LOL no. The dude straight quit on the team to force a trade, is bad at basketball, and is lucky to not already be in China. The only thing he haunts is the dreams of his fans who expect his next showboat dunk to actually go in.

(Note that I deleted and re-wrote this post after feeling it came across as a little aggressive. But I'm re-posting the original since Cow was fast enough to quote it and I figured I should just own it. Smile Please know that I intended the fire to be directed at the players and not at the poster. You guys are cool.)

Barnes: People listen to low-info morons all the time, especially LeBron.  It also fit his narrative that players should have more control of where they play which I don't completely disagree.

DAJ:  The closest thing to a big fish you land, you trade away in a half season.  Also reinforces the perceived notion that the Mavericks prefer white players.

DSJ:  The guy that was given the keys to the Mavericks and had a pretty good rookie campaign.  Mavericks draft Luka and DSJ is gone a half season later.  Also reinforces the preconceived notion that the Mavericks prefer white players.

Perception and reality are often at odds.  You and I might know the real reasons behind those treatments, like Barnes asking to play even though he knew he was getting traded, but the truth often doesn't matter.  We've heard rumbling in NBA circles and I have had more than one friend ask me about this.
I respect your opinion. I'll simply say that I believe reality matters and the racial angles are unfounded. I also think highly enough of the players that I trust that (when presented with all of the information) they can distinguish truth from divisive narratives.

I don't believe it, personally.  You think Dorian resigns if there are racial undertones?  JB also says he loves and it Dallas and that kid is no nonsense.  We also hired Cynt, Nico and Kidd.  I think the reality is that Cuban and Donnie were just bad with free agents and their agents and could never land anyone so NBA pundits started putting that narrative out there.  It's pretty lazy but that's human nature.

It started before them. Dallas was always looked at as the way for players to up the salary they get from the team they wanted to sign with. There was a chance to change that narrative with the championship team, but Mark pissed that opportunity away IMO.

True.  But Donnie and Cuban had ample time before and after the championship to change that narrative.  Cuban's no Jerry, not by a long shot.
No matter if we agree with Cuban (I do) or not. His comments on the NCAA/college basketball and development didn´t improve the Mavs chances to sign free agents.

The common thread to all these is Luka. Once he arrived, the focus was to get him to his happy place and make sure he stays there. The Barnes/DAJ/Matthews trio were actively shutting him out. DSJ got his feelings out of joint once it became obvious how much better Luka was, taking the shine off his FRP status.

Probably the worst thing the team did with KP was to imply that he and Luka might be co-numero unos. The pecking order is now firmly established and there will be no misunderstandings with future acquisitions.
