Mavs former vets Barea, Chandler and Jet were invited to summer league to see if coaching really is their thing. I guess Mavs just knew with Dudley. Not really a smart PR moves, if you ask me. I hope they are more sensitive behind the scenes.

Edit: I am not against Dudley. But they shouldn't say that about the former players, imho

I have to say I am a bit surprised with this move. He didn't have a great summer league, but on the other hand - did any of the other guys Mavs had a better one? He is still just 22 years old so there is a lot of time for improvement. And the guy was certainly a big energy boost on the bench. I would be dissapointed if the replacement will be one of the other guys from Mavs summer league.

Same. I loved his energy and team first mentality. On court he was one of the better players on a terrible summer league roster but I don´t think any of them deserved a spot based on their summer league performance. Would completly understand the move if they bring in another guard (maybe even one of the former lottery picks...DSJ or Ntilikina). Mavs probably won´t have any minutes to develop another 3&D wing and the Legends are a joke. A PG with some upside on the other hand could easily earn some minutes in the NBA.

I think I saw somewhere DSJ can't be a two way player. I guess same for Frank. But you might have a point about PG and this might be the reason Mavs were pushing him to play PG in the summer league- show us you can do it and we have a spot for you

As for 3-D - is 24 year old Omoruyi really a better option as a developmental 3-D guy? Not sure if his summer league 3 was even worsse than Hinton's

Hiton is competing for SG/SF minutes. Behind THJ, Bullock, Brown, Green, Terry (more PG/SG). Omoruyi is more of a SF/PF. Mavs lack depth when it comes to big wings. Only have DFS and Kleber (who is more of small ball big).
The worst thing is if we find out that Cuban hired more yes men to agree and do what he wants instead of locking horns with him and winning at least some of the time...

Love was not able to be in shape to be an end of the bench player and make it through practice...

Barring a miracle in health I would pass...
I have a feeling Love will have a Blake-Griffin-like resurgence on the right team. And he’s always had a lot of positive things to say about Dallas. If LM would have had a role in the lineup, then I bet Dallas will have interest in Love (especially at the vet min).

Was he or was he just "Blake Griffin" not dunking for 2 years out of shape?

I think you have a point but looking at similar cases he could also be the next Blake Griffin. Play as bad as it gets. Force the buy out. Get back into shape. Finish the season as a crucial rotation piece on a playoff team.
Hinton may not be missed so much on the court, but I do sorta already miss his enthusiasm in the bench. He’s a good teammate, and I hope he lands somewhere.
He could not make it through an Olympic practice let alone be reliable enough as an end of the bench player...he had great players and atmosphere but was not in shape...

If the Mavs sign him...

Agree. Love on a vet min is a guy that can raise your playoff ceiling considerably. Not like there is any risk involved. If he can't play you just dump him. But I think he will go to a contender
Dragic and Love would be the most Mavericks-type of offseason. Imagine all the bullcrap Harp, Coop, Sefko, Townsend & co could throw out there about the glorious veteran winning culture. Just like in the good old days when Devin & JJB brought us the 32 win trophy with their backdoor cut-plays.

Just shoot me if they sign Love AND Dragic. Yuck.

- Extremely passive draft night
- Strike out on your FA target
- No improvement of the asset base to put is into a better position once a star player becomes available
- Now broken down Goran Dragic is the main target in a buyout scenario.

Meh. What a huge waste of time as always.

Nah. A Donnie Nelson offseason would have had us not even sign Bullock on the first night because we were keeping our powder dry for Kawhi.
