The overall trends of Luka and KP both being negatives is fascinating to me. If it ever "clicks" for both of them this team might suddenly become REALLY, REALLY good.

I was really encouraged by the +7 run from 7:34 to 0:43 with KP, Luka, RB, JB, and THJ. We see glimpses of these positive impacts and runs with Luka and KP, but for the most part this season the bench mob has been the one getting the leads.

The fascination mainly lies with his unreal 3pt shot. He has an argument for best 3pt shooter in the league. We saw just how lethal we were with Seth Curry on the court next to Luka. Hield would fill that role much in the same way and I'm trying to recreate that.

Not only that but it seems like the Kings are more than ready to move on from Hield at a bargain asking price. That's just the kind of deal we should be looking for. Players that can be had on a bargain that can be a boon next to Luka.

The biggest difference being that Curry is 9 mil and Hield is 23.  There is a reason they are trying to give him away.  Not that interested in tying up over 40 mil in cap space to two guys whos only contribution is shooting.
Evidence that the plan is starting to come together...

The biggest difference is that Hield takes and makes more threes than Seth too.

Seth has elite efficiency, but doesn't have the volume. Hield has both. We should be comparing Hield more to Duncan Robinson, who is getting paid 18 ml vs 23 for Hield.

5 mil overpay for that kind of elite shooting is something that I'm more than willing to accept.
For the current season:

Curry 5.9 fg/gm @ 54.2% (47.1% 3pt) 3.2 rpg, 2.5 apg
Heild 5.9 fg/gm @ 42.1% (40.8% 3pt) 4.5 rpg, 2.1 apg

That works out to 10.9 fga for Curry and 14 fga for Heild.

Seth is shooting more efficiently, but Buddy gets more rebounds.

FWIW

Seth has been the most efficient 3pt shooter in the league for the last 4 years, clocking in at 45.2% from 3. Insane efficiency. Sadly he only takes 4 attempts a game. And these were on teams that he's been featured in with a prominent bench role.

Buddy in that same span is shooting 40.5%, but on 9 attempts a game. His efficiency is still elite at over 40%, but he's doing it on a volume the likes of Steph/Dame territory. That's why Buddy is special.

I don't really care about his contract because the Mavs aren't going to have any space for a while, and when they do have space it's not like they do anything with it anyways.

Your early 20's: a time during which there are no physical consequences for pretty much anything.
MacMahon tweeting that he'll miss time but not much?

Feels somewhat conflicting of Shams.

At this point, I'd be ok resting Luka on a few b2b's even if he was totally healthy.

Ditto for pretty much any important player.

It's a marathon, not a sprint, and while stacking wins is crucial, the most important basketball is played after the all-star break.

This doesn't really worry me. Sucks that this next stretch is so tough, though.

THE BEST DANG NEWS I'VE HEARD ALL DAY!
They were just updating this on ESPN. (Zach Lowe and Richard Jefferson).

Based on McMahon's report and their familiarity with that type of injury, they were hoping he would not be out more than 7-10 days. I don't know how much of that was based on knowledge, and how much on speculation.

No...no it does not suck.

We need to evaluate Brunson as much as possible against other teams starting units and see him on his own late in close games if possible.

Unless Mavs have already made a decision on him of course.
7-10 days means possibly both PHX and both LAC games.

Hate that he's hurt and want him healthy for remaining season, but the timing surely stinks.

Guess we'll find out if the team is better without him.

The other difference is that Hield is shitastically bad at defense.  I mean really bad.  Curry, THJ, Brunson are nothing to write home about, but Hield is significantly worse.  There is a reason he got moved to the bench with his elite shooting.

Mavs are saying game by game decision. But Callie Caplan, I believe, reports that Luka will travel with the team for the whole road trip, even if he doesn't play in the games. Suggesting that they are least allowing for the possibility that he will not be able to go in any of the games.
