Can't believe Roddy didn't get invited to the workout.

Interesting. Clearly Dallas isn't satisfied with the roster just yet.

Normally a team would prioritize youth prospects at the tail end of the roster, but the idea of picking up a few inexpensive veteran reclamation projects also sort of intrigues me. It'll be interesting to see how this plays this out.

BTW, I suspect this could be an indication that the new front office may be looking at unwinding yet another recent draft pick. Trying out a bunch of ballhandling guards while also adding Dragic doesn't bode well for increased playing time for a kid like Terry.

Excellent. Thread title confirmed.

Might as well bring back Kidd as a player-coach.
Working out those three has to be a semi-admission that they do need a secondary ball handler right?  Or is this just for show?
Maybe they are gearing up to ship out Brunson with some salary (Maxi/DP) and one of those amazing young prospects (Green/Terry) to try and pick up another starting caliber player.

Believe Cuban has already admitted that.

These guys have been wholly/almost wholly out of the league for a while now. I don't know if there is anything real here, or if it's a courtesy thing for the players or their agents.

If it's real, I guess we're back to the Mike James/Derek Fisher days. Aargh.

I just hope it doesn't signal bad news on the Dragic front.  I don't think so, but who knows with so little info there.

Yeah, hard to believe this is where we are. I keep thinking I'll wake up and find that we're all just characters in one of Cuban's bad dreams.

Maybe we're opening a roster spot or two with the Dragic trade?

I would be really surprised if there was anything serious with those three guys, probably just doing favors to the agents. But it is an interesting debate how to create a roster spot for Dragic. Brown is the obvious, cheapest and most likely option. I am about 95 % sure it will be him. But still, there are plenty of other options. Personally I would be always intrigued trading WCS (or Powell) and keeping the young cost controlled prospect who can produce some in certain conditions. I also think Terry days in Dallas are numbered. Dallas still sort of have an army of mediocre players and it will be difficult to get minutes for everyone. There are also the looming extensions of Brunson and DFS hanging over Cuban wallet likely puting Mavs deep in the tax next season, if they both stay. Dumping is also just a waste of talent. So is there a 2 for 1 trade to be had? Looking at bottom feeders:

Minnesota only has 11 players under contract, least in the league. Would Terry and Burke intrigue them for Okogie? More likely Layman but I have no idea what I would do with him Smile

How about Chicago? Terry and WCS for Troy Brown. He had one good season in Washington 2 years ago and was forgotten since then. Chicago needs wings more than anything though, so I doubt they would be interested.

How about Orlando? They also need wings, so Green and Burke for Bamba? Not that we need another center, but we could throw in Moses, if they want. Or Terry and Burke for MCW who is injured and not needed in Orlando (Mavs get 2 roster spots for next season)?

Pick collector in OKC is always looking for a deal and is a bit short at C (not that they care). Terry and WCS for Jerome, a PG that could actually play for Mavs?

Houston? Any 2 man combination of Terry, WCS, Burke, Moses for House? Or lets go big, Terry, WCS and Burke for Augustin and House Smile
If it was just Stevenson and Ellis, then I wouldn't even remotely take it seriously.  Thomas, though, can still play and could even beat out someone like Burke.  Pretty sure the Lakers were going to sign him had Rondo not been bought out.
So I guess Brown isn't going anywhere?

I agree about Terry.   The Mavs and Kidd could not have been impressed with his short performance in summer league.  Kidd was a big physical guard and Terry is the other extreme.   At the draft, I would have taken Xavier Tillman at that spot, but I really liked the Terry pick and considered it a future pick.    I hope we keep him for another year and get a closer a look at him.  I expect a ton of G-league games if he stays here, but longterm I don't know if the fit is going to work here.    He is still a baby for NBA basketball and his game needs growth all the way around.

I guess in short, I want to believe in him and think he has legit skills shooting the basketball, but I really did not like his game and a half.  Not just points, but I wanted to see a guy who had control of the game and that didn't happen.

Or Burke.  Maybe they have someone who will take him and they are using the second two-way and some vet min guy to take the (largely emergency) role.  Main benefit is getting off the second year and saving some tax.

If Terry is outgoing, Toronto has a TPE that he fits into.

I think he is the cheap backup C plan once Willie’s contract expires (or sooner if Willie is traded, but that isn’t my call.  I think we are talking about a year from now).

Good.   This team lacks hardly any guys with upside and I would like to see if Brown has anything.  I don't believe anything from that OKC team last year.  That roster was awful and somehow they stayed competitive in the first half of the season.

I am at the point that I think I would rather keep Brown than WCS, eventhough WCS is the better player.   I reserve the right to change my opinion after watching him for a bit.

I am not expecting much from Brown but there is a chance his proves me wrong.   I feel like we have very few guys like that on the roster.   At two years at low salary, it is a nice gamble.
Now that Lauri and Nance jr are gone, what about Boucher from Toronto?

He would fit into the TPE in a Dragic trade

The signs point to Brown not going anywhere. I like it. Hot take: he could even beat out WCS and get some starts. We need rebounding and he has it. If he can screen and roll we have a steal. Why would we have a press conference for a player and Tyson work with him if he wasn’t in our plans? Maybe we targeted him in the JRich deal

Moses may be gone in a few weeks.  Who knows.  I would also be surprised if he has a every game role next year if he is here.

But I was watching his 19-20 G-league highlights with the Legends and there are some things that really intrigue me.   He was probably 19-20 years old during this time.  He really runs the court well.  He appears to have good hands.   And he is always an option when he is near the rim.    The G-league is filled with 4A players who can put up monster stats, but there are some things to work on.

supposedly he is pretty bad on defense.   He is just so raw, so this will be interesting to see if someone can get better defense out of him.

Not saying I want him on the team, but Lance Stephenson is only 30 years old, so he's about half the age that Mike James was when he played for the mavs.
